The Shaftless Spirals are manufactured from the highest quality High Tensile Steel and can be used in extremely high torque applications up to 10 000 Nm. Spirals can also be manufactured in Stainless Steel AISA 302L and AISI 316L. Spirals can be rolled in both left and right hand configurations. For abrasive conditions Shaftless Spirals can be treated by means of hard facing, nitriding, ceramic lining and various other well recognized abrasion resistant treatments. Shaftless Spirals also offer an additional service whereby spirals can be GRP lined for extremely corrosive environments. Reinforced Spirals top handle long lengths and high torques are also available. Shaftless Spirals can offer design and turnkey solutions to all materials handling problems.

ACM have developed a range of advanced composites materials. These are fibre reinforced plastic laminates

which are ideally suited to high load bearing applications in a variety of environments.

The material is available in tube and sheet form as well as in fully finished components such as structural bear-

ings, washers, wear rings, spherical bearings, wear pads, wear strips, rollers, and bushes. We can also manu-

facture custom components according to specification.

Advantages over Phosphor Bronze

ACM composite bearings offer engineers a real cost effective alternative to phosphor bronze and older traditional material used.

ACM materials have the ability to take high loads without compressing out, and are self lubricating so id servicing is neglected

our materials will continue to perform. The self-lubricating properties permit further value engineering by allowing the removal

of greasing systems.

ACM can also operate in dry, gritty environments, hence preventing the formation of grease or grit lapping past which can abrade shafts to destruction

Advantages over Nylon

Although nylon materials are sold under various trade names, they are limited to relatively lightly loaded situations.

ACM materials exhibit a far higher load capacity than nylons and are dimensionally stable in fluids. Absorption is less than 0.1% compared to nylon at up to 9%. This low level of absorption means that there is negligible swelling and degradation of proper-ties. It also means you can run with tighter running clearances which increase the available bearing area and excludes to a greater extent the ingress of foreign particles ( which in the case of nylon get embedded in and proceed to abrade the shaft).

ACM properties will remain stable no matter where in the world they are used, whereas those of nylon can be affected by the glass transition temperature.

Advantages over Phenolic Asbestos

For many years, Phenolic Asbestos laminates were the best materials available to engineers as a replacement for phosphor bronze. ACM materials have around 35% more compressive strength and are non-toxic, containing no asbestos.

Phenolic Asbestos absorbs around 2% fluids, so ACM has similar advantages over this as it does for nylon.

In addition, we are able to impregnate with solid lubricants, such as graphite, PTFE or MoS2

which is there for life of the compo-nent unlike oil impregnation.

Advantages over Hardened Steel

Our enhanced load grade material, L18, has been designed to exceed the limits of bronze and go into the load areas of hard-ened steel, with the benefits of savings on shaft materials and grease and reduced service costs.
