Each told their stories of struggle and triumph over drug addiction. Tom’s parents divorced when he was 15 and the loss of his mother, as well as being raised by an alcoholic father, contributed to the beginning of his alcohol and then drug abuse. Tom was in the service and spent 7 months in Iraq last year. There he saw and was a part of horrific events which changed him profoundly. He was honorably discharged with a diagnosis of PTSD and fell into drug abuse once again. With the help of Meridian House Tom is now 4 months sober and on the road to recovery. Katie was raised in a Catholic family and was a good student, graduating from both high school and then college. Abusing drugs was something she never thought she would do, until she graduated college and fell in with a group who started her on the drugs. Katie is married, has a 19 month old son and has been sober 5 months.
