PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Kindergarten Excursion On our first day back this term our Kindergarten students participated in their first excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm. This was a great event which our students enjoyed and learnt a lot about farms and farm animals. Thank you to the Kingswood South P & C who have sup-ported the students by paying for the bus to keep costs down so every student could attend.

Athletics Carnival Our 3 – 6 Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday the 8th August, 2019. Reminder permission notes have gone home this week reminding parents that payment is due by the Friday, 2nd August, 2019. Another note regarding the high jump event which will be held at school in week 3 has also gone home this week. The notes are also on the Skoolbag App and Website. Our K- 2 Athletics Carnival will be held on the 21st August, 2019. Student Asthma Plans Schools work with parents/carers, staff and students to provide effective support to students with asthma. Asthma Plans last for 12 months and it is a requirement of the Department of Education to have a current plan on record so we can manage your child’s health condition. An Asthma Care Plan for Education and Care Services, needs to be filled out and signed by you and your doctor. Letters go home throughout the year requesting up to date Asthma Plans from families. If your child is diagnosed with Asthma and you haven’t notified the school please do so ASAP, so that we can get the necessary information on our data base to support your child.

STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE

Whole School Assembly Our next whole school assembly will be on Wednesday the 7th August, 2019 at 2pm. This assembly will be our Education Week Assembly. Parents are invited to attend. The assembly begins at 1.50pm. P & C Meeting The next Kingswood South P & C meeting will be held in the school library on Wednesday the 7 th August, 2019 at 7pm. All parents and carers are invited to attend. Our P & C volunteer to run our uniform shop, manage the school banking for our students and fundraise to support our school. New members are al-ways welcome. Sensory Room Earlier this year we raised money during Blue Week to purchase resources for students in our school with special needs. We have purchased fidget toys, special seating and resources to set up a Sensory Room. I have included pictures of our sensory room in this newsletter and we will also have it open for parents to look at during our Open Day on the 7th August.

Reading Targets Term 3 reading targets will be sent home with students next Friday the 2nd August, 2019. If your child does not give you a reading target, please contact your child’s teacher who can provide another one. The Reading Targets are magnetic so that you can place them on your fridge at home. Preschool and Kindergarten Enrolments for 2020 If you have someone you know who has a child ready for preschool or turning 5 before July 31, 2020 they are eligible to enrol to start preschool and kindergarten next year. Please visit our school office between 8.30am and 3.00pm Monday to Friday to collect an application form. Completed application forms should be returned to the School Office together with the child ’s original Birth Certificate, current Immunisation Certificate and proof of address. Earn and Learn During the school holidays the Earn and Learn program finished and sticker totals had to be sent in. Our school managed to collect 25,000 stickers. We have ordered art and craft materials, student white-boards, musical instruments for the preschool and maths equipment for K – 2. Thank you to all of the families who supported the school with this program. Finally, the preschool is currently undergoing some playground upgrades that is being funded by the Early Learning Directorate and Kingswood South PS. These upgrades include new sandpit sandstone upgrade, new climbing wall, installation of a drinking bubbler, new play equipment and a kitchen up-grade with a new oven and cupboards. This term we have our Father’s Day Stall, silver coin roundup is still going and a few other things. Thanks to all our parents for their support, without them we as a P&C would not be able to do what we do for the kids. Uniform Shop is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings 8.30am – 9.15. If you can help on any of these days please see Donna Fry. School Banking is Thursday morning. If you can help please see Debbie Witek. We are also looking for a secretary for the P&C. If you want to give it a go please see Leigh Gozzard. Our next meeting is Wednesday 7th August at 7pm in the school library. Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there. P&C Committee
