NEWS & NOTICES
SUMMER 2016

Welcome Back
Welcome back to the Summer Term and a very warm welcome to all our new
boys and parents who have joined us this term. We hope that you are settling
in well. We have a busy term ahead with the Year 8 boys preparing and taking
their Common Entrance Exams, but also lots of exciting events to look forward
to.
We also have the KHA Summer Ball at The Queens Stand in Epsom, at 7pm on
the 17th June which we would love as many parents as possible to come along
to. Grandparents’ Open Morning is on the 1st June, another date to keep free,
further details to follow.
Please do have a look at the school calendar for details of all the other events
coming up, so that you don’t miss anything!
Cakes for the Queen’s 9oth Birthday
Reception and First Class celebrated the Queen’s 90th Birthday today by
making delicious mud pies at Forest School today.
Public Speaking Competition
We had a very successful Public Speaking
competition on Tuesday, around the theme of
Space. All the finalists were fantastic but the
eventual winners were Robin Ward, David
Barrow and Elliot Leupolz. These three boys
spoke particularly well and impressed our judge,
Mr Peter Harris, Principal at Ewell Castle with
their confidence and enthusiasm.
A big thank you to all the parents who came to
watch too, we had a great turn out and your
support really helped make this a special event!
Years 1 and 2 Visit Leeds Castle
On a beautiful day at the end of
last term, Years 1 and 2 were
taken on a trip to Leeds Castle.
Among the many activities they
were dressed up as knights and
dragons and re-enacted a castle
fairy tale!
They were also given a tour
around castle which they
couldn't believe quite how big it
was. They were very excited to
see inside the Queens bedroom!
The children impressed the
castle staff how well they were
able to label all the castle parts
when they were quizzed.
All the children thoroughly
enjoyed the trip and had a
wonderful day.
Planting Potatoes
3M have had fun planting potatoes, they will be
looking after them over the next few weeks and
hoping for a healthy crop that they can cook and
eat.
Thinking Sgkills
As part of their 'Survival' Thinking Skills unit, Year 7 boys had a mere 30 minutes to create model tropical island shelters, which tested practical and collaborative skills as well as creativity. The result was an assortment of shelters, constructed using clay, wooden skewers (branches), string, pipe cleaners and laurel (palm) leaves.
Previously, the boys had explored survival skills and strategies within the context of both freezing and tropical climates.
On Friday, each shelter will be put through the tropical storm test! We will show you the results
Mandarin Club
We will be running a lunch time Mandarin Club on
Wednesdays. The classes will be run by a Chinese
lady who will make the sessions fun including learn-
ing about the language and also the culture. All year
groups from Year 1 are invited and the cost is £5
per session. Please let the Office know if you are
interested.

We have had entries from Year 2 pupils in the past so if you are interested please tell Miss Walliss and
Mrs Watkins will then contact you directly next week to explain the process.
