Every year around this time we celebrate Matric results. Pass rate, university entrance and distinctions are publicised and photos of graduates receiving good news are seen in the press. And it’s certainly cause for rejoicing! Well done to the class of 2019! But, at The King’s School, we think some of the greatest cause for celebration are the lesser known achievements of greatness. Those students who came into our school achieving 50’s and 60’s, and graduated with 70’s and 80’s - these are stories of young people who embraced the learning of learning, and allowed themselves to be formed through new habits of engagement, reflection and studying. Their results are also often a positive reflection on our teachers who have taught not only from a content base, but who have come alongside their students to train them in skills for mastery of their learning curriculum. Furthermore, I also want to pause to celebrate the achievements of greatness that are not reflected in marks on a Matric Certificate. Over many years, we can testify of countless young men and women who have experienced transformation not only in academic performance, but who have also blossomed spiritually, physically, emotionally and socially. At The King’s School, we believe that education is the pursuit of the progressive development of

the whole student so that they can become productive and fruitful members of society, creating benefit for the common good and glorifying God. We celebrate all those who have demonstrated visible growth in character, work ethic, leadership, faith, people skills - even though your achievements are lesser known in the public domain, they are not less in the sight of God. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). To every student who has persevered through learning as a discipline, and who has welcomed this shaping of their whole life, we celebrate your growth.

The 2020 year started with an amazing weekend for the Gr 8 learners together with the Prefects. The aim of the weekend was orientation and not initiation because we believe that making them part of our school and showing them the “King’s-scholian” way is the way to get them excited about and involved in the High School. We believe that being ‘part of by belonging’ is the way to go and is much better than breaking down someone. Our focus was on Identity: Not who we are but Whose we are. A massive thank you to teachers and prefects who helped in making this a memorable weekend for all our Gr 8 learners
