Kingdom News November 2016

KINGDOM CHALLENGE by Donny Cortimilia First Baptist Church, Odessa was the sight of the 2016 annual meeting of the Basin Baptist Network. It started at 5 pm Sunday afternoon, October 23. The meal, prepared by Glen Huebner and served by the ladies of Mission Messiah was fantastic! The numerous mission booths were educational and allowed participants to see what was happening not only in our own backyard, but in Texas, the USA and around the world. They offered opportunities to get involved in ministry. There was something for everyone and covered a myriad of talents and gifts. The business meeting took only a short time and was moderated by Rick Holeman, pastor of Cotton Flat Baptist Church. The music by Curtis Brewer, Associate

Pastor of Worship & Celebration FBC, Odessa, prepared our hearts for the message from Nik Ripken. We approved the 2017 budget and approved the members of the Administration Team for 2017. We also added two new churches as members of the Network: South Seminole Baptist Church in Seminole, TX and Casa De Mi Padre in Odessa, TX. Dr. Ricky Guenther is pastor at South Seminole and Ernest Florez is pastor at Casa De Mi Padre. Nik has written two books, “The Insanity of God” and the “Insanity of Obedience.” The

“Insanity of God” has been made into a movie that will be released November 21. Thank you to all who participated in the conference. Thank you to FBC, Odessa for hosting the conference. Thank you to FBC, Midland for providing the Ripkens a vehicle for the week. I hope you were blessed. I certainly was. PASTORS PLEASE REMEMBER OUR MONTHLY PASTOR’S LUNCH ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7. IT WILL BE AT THE BBN OFFICE.

BSM Annual Report 2015-16

Baptist Student Ministry is a great ministry to college students on the college cam-pus. Since we do not have a BSM building on any of our campuses, ministering on the campuses is challenging. Thank you for all that you do to make it happen. Churches, church groups and individuals who contribute time, energy and re-sources bless the students and honor God with their selfless service.

One of the outreach ministries BSM undertakes is the FREE Lunch Encounter, which is open to all students. Since this ministry is conducted on the campuses the volunteers must carry the food from their churches to the campus, then from the parking lot to the room where we meet. Student leaders who serve their fellow students are there to meet them. Students set up the room, prepare activities, deliver announcements and attempt to interact with students and build relationships with them. Local church leaders or students share a weekly devotion from God’s word. Our ultimate aim is to be sure every student hears the gospel in a way he or she can respond to it. We seek to be obedient in proclaiming salvation for all in the students’ Jerusalem. Thank you for making these lunches successful. Lead Team also meets weekly for planning, prayer and study, and we have a worship night called “Imago Dei.”(Image of God) every Monday on the Midland College Campus and Thursday at UTPB. Student leaders planned activities like game nights, retreats, mission trips, and fundraisers for community and mission causes. Local BSM students traveled to South Padre Island over spring break to join BSM students from other campuses and churches and Texas Baptist Men to minister to college students on spring break. Unfortunately, the spring break phenomenon says, “I must party until I drop, practice debauchery of every kind and degree and generally dishonor God and parents in as many ways as possible before I finish my degree and enter the adult world of responsibility and work.” It is a sad reflection of our nation and our youth who have bought into the lies of Satan. It is amazing to watch as BSM students serve pancakes, offer rides, pray and more importantly impart the words of hope and life at a time when many are realizing just how empty a party lifestyle is. BSM students offer sanity, forgiveness and freedom in Christ in a world gone wild. We see lives of spring breakers changed and see our own students determine and commit to sharing Christ on an even more intentional level. Serving and seeing the results of God’s love in the midst of hate and unreserved sinfulness helps to mature the students who participate. They become convinced that God can and will use them to speak to others about Him. We plan to participate in Beach Reach again this academic year. You, your Sunday school class or your church could sponsor a student to go! The cost is about $400 per participant. Two BSM students were GenSend missionaries in Denver, Colorado for six weeks this past summer. They helped local church planters reach into neighborhoods to find new areas of town in which to start new churches. BSM students are also going on a mission trip to Montreal over Christmas break. Montreal is a very hard city to work and minis-ter in. Pray for us as we work with local leaders from the North American Mission Board in Montreal. Pray for divine appointments with students who need to hear His message and experience His love. Pray we can see students give their lives to Christ. Pray for more student leaders and adult volunteers who want to invest in these young lives, these fu-ture leaders. Pray that I would hear God’s heart and voice for this ministry and lead in accordance with them. If you or any fellowship group with which you participate is looking for a ministry in the community, please consider BSM. Con-tact one of the leaders to see what opportunities there are for you to join us in reaching out to this college generation which is moving further and further from Christianity. If your church is not supporting this ministry financially, please consider sending even a small monthly gift to keep the ministry going. Gifts can be sent to the Network office addressed to BSM. Thank you again for loving the college students by providing this ministry. Tammy Cortimilia, BSM Director 432.563.3700
