The Reverend Andrew Hammond joins us this term as Chaplain. Andrewis no stranger to King’s having studied for an MPhil here as part of hispreparation for ordination at Westcott House. Andrew comes to us fromSt Mary’s Willesden where he was the vicar. Before that he was a MinorCanon and Succentor at St Paul’s Cathedral and a curate in St John’sWood. We welcome him warmly and look forward to the contributionhe will make to our liturgy and life through his ministry here.

MUSIC
We have introduced a new time for the weekly Saturday organ recitals, which were instituted by Harold Darke when he was acting organist duringWorld War II. Recitals begin at 6.40 p.m. and last about 40 minutes. There is no recital on 17 October.
In our continuing series of recitals by former organ scholars (as partof the 500th celebrations), we welcome John Butt (KC 1979), TomWinpenny (KC 2003), David Goode (KC 1991), Daniel Hyde (KC 2000),James Vivian (KC 1993) and Ashley Grote (KC 2001).
‘Epiphany through music’ is the title of a short festival of modern music,9–11 October, featuring the contribution of King’s musicians to thecontemporary musical scene. It is another in the series of events whichcelebrate the 500th anniversary of the completion of the stonework of theChapel. The music of a number of distinguished King’s composers willbe featured in services and concerts, and alumni will be well representedamong the performers. During the following weekend, 17–18 October,we shall welcome members of the Howells and the Stanford societiesto our services, and music by these composers will feature strongly.Wednesday 11 November sees a special concert to mark the forthcomingrestoration of the Harrison & Harrison organ. Former organ scholarThomas Trotter (KC 1979), will be the soloist, and the performance willbe broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. On Wednesday 18 November, theChoir takes part in a performance of Arvo Pärt Passio. This work againfeatures the organ prominently, as does Messiaen La Nativité du Seigneur, which Stephen Cleobury will play on Thursday 17 December.
