A Day in the Life of a
McGaugh Kindergarten Student
Learn how to make new friends and solve problems
Learn about the world they live in
Learn about letters, sounds, words, and books
Practice pre-reading skills (rhyming, blending, and using picture clues)
Begin to learn how to read, spell, and write sentences
Learn about shapes, patterns, and sorting
Learn about numbers (recognizing, ordering, adding, subtracting, writing, and counting to 100)
Explore themes and projects that integrate reading, writing, mathematics and science
Explore themes and projects that integrate learning with visual and performing arts (painting, drawing, singing, dancing, etc.)
Work in small groups and large groups.
Eat at the lunch tables and have the option to buy cafeteria food.
In Kindergarten Your Child Will:
Is Your Child Prepared for Kindergarten?
Make simple drawings (ex. house, person, tree)
Hold crayons like a pencil and use scissors appropriately
Name basic colors and shapes
Listen to adults and follow instructions
Can sit for a 15-20 minute activity
Share, take turns, and raise their hands
Play with other children nicely, keeping their hands to themselves
Express their needs verbally
The indicators below are good signs that your child is ready to learn and succeed.
Take care of basic needs on their own, such as going to the bathroom, washing hands, tying shoes, blowing noses, and taking off jackets
Recognize their possessions, backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets, etc.
Gets at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night
Shows interest in books, turn pages, and pretends to read (looks left to right when “reading” a book)
Recognizes capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet (out of order)
Recognize and write their name
Know the sounds that letters of the alphabet make
Hear the first sound in a simple word like “ball”
Hear words that rhyme, like in Cat in the Hat
Recognize and count numbers to 30
Lunch Program
$3/day for students
Drop off payments by 9am in the office for same day posting. Checks or cash.
Purchase lunches online to pay by credit card.
