Writing – Dinosaur Party Story Part 1

This week we are going to be looking at this picture to create a story.

Think about who is at the party. What are the dinosaurs looking at? What will the dinosaurs eat? What games will there be at the party?

Draw and label the people or animals that are going to be in your story

Phonics Instruction

Sound out the words and read the sentences to someone at home.

Mathematics - Friends of ten

Look at the following tens frames and draw the remaining counters to make 10. Finish the equation.

6 + ______ = 10

3 + ______ = 10

5 + ______ = 10

8 + ______ = 10

1 + ______ = 10

Guess my number

You will need:

• Number cards 1-10 (optional) • Lego or blocks • Someone to play with

Instructions:

• Lay out the number cards and block towers as seen in the picture below • Player 1 picks a card from the remaining pile • Player 2 has 3 attempts to try and guess the number • Player 1 responds each time with ‘higher or lower’ • Remove the cards and blocks when they are no longer in the range

Stampolines

You will need:

• Blocks • Pencil

Instructions:

• Build 5 towers, with 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 blocks • Think about how many ways you can make each number, e.g. 4 can be made

with 2+2 or 3+1 • Draw some different ways you can make each number (example on next

page)

Draw here:

Creative Arts – Little Miss Muffet

• Sing Little Miss Muffet • See if you can keep the beat by patting your knees • Can you think of some actions to go with the nursery rhyme?

While you are singing, draw a line across your page, following the pitch of your voice e.g. when your voice goes high, go up, when your voice goes low, go down.

Draw your lines here. Make them into a picture, maybe a stegosaurus!

English

Talking and Listening

In stories, we call people and animals characters.

-What type of character do you think Mr Fox is?

-Who do you think Mr Fox’s friends are?

-What do you think Mr Fox does in the story?

Go and share your answers with someone in your family. What do they think about Mr Fox?

Storytime!

Read or listen to your book from Monday.

Draw some pictures that happened in the story.

Beginning Middle Ending

Writing

Yesterday we started to write a story about dinosaurs. Today we are going to work on it some more!

Who?

What? When?

Where?

Why? How?

Handwriting

Start on the dot and follow the arrows.

Trace, then have a go on your own.

Phonics

Sound out the words and read the sentences to someone at home.

Mathematics

Trace around your foot and cut it out.

-Are you seven feet tall?

-Find some things around your home that are less than 7 feet tall.

-Find some things around your home that are more than 7 feet tall.

Draw some pictures of the things you found.

Less than 7 feet

More than 7 feet

Counting Game

You will need a partner and your 24 items. Take turns counting by 1, 2 or 3 at a time. The person who gets to 24 is the winner. Play the game again using a different target number and a different starting number. For example, you might start at 35 and try to get to 51. You can make the game harder by counting backwards.

Geography

Draw a special place that you like to visit.

-List all the things you can do at this place when it is warm and sunny.

-List all the things you can do at this place when it is cold and raining.

-Do you like it better in sunny or rainy weather? Why?

I think Mr Fox lives

It's storytime! Ready your story from Monday.

Write down two questions you would like to ask the main character.

1. ______________________________________________________

Writing

Let's work on our dinosaur story! Use your planning sheet (who, what, when, where, why, how) from yesterday to write the beginning of your story about the dinosaur party.

Here are some examples of how you could start your story.

PDH Water

We have been learning about healthy foods. Today, let's learn about water!

Use the poster to help you answer these questions: Can you find the tap on the poster?

Why is the tap turned on? ____________________________________________

_________________________________________________

Why do you think there is a tap and full glass of water on the poster?

____________________________________________________

____________________________________________________

Now it's your turn to create a poster about water. Draw a cup in the middle of the box below. Write words to describe water around your cup—for example, cold, tasty, fresh, nice.

Local places Let's learn about the natural and human features of places.

Look at the below pictures.

Natural places

Human or build places

Let's explore some built and natural features you can see from your home

Have a look outside your window or, if you are allowed, go outside.

Thursday

To complete today's activities, you will need:

• workbook • pencils • Lego or blocks

Mr Fox - events

This is Mr Fox. He is from a story. Describe to someone: What do you think Mr Fox does in the story?

In the story, I think Mr Fox...

Storytime!

Read or listen to your book from Monday. Divide the following blank page into 4 parts, like a one-pager we have done at school.

Include this information in each part of the page:

• What does your character look like? • What does your character like doing? • Draw where your character lives. • Draw your favourite part of your story.

For example:

Dinosaur party story - Part 4

The middle is where you share what happens and what the problem will be.

Listen to the middle of the story. Then listen to the beginning and middle together. Does it make sense?

Use your planning page and beginning of the story from yesterday to write the middle of your story.

Middle

Phonics Instruction

Sound out the words and read the sentences to someone at home.

Mathematics

You will need: a collection of Lego or blocks

pencils

your workbook. Use your Lego to make the following combinations and draw your answers in your workbook.

Draw how many ways you can make six using just one colour. Draw how many ways you can make six using two different

colours. Draw how many ways you can make six using three different

colours.

An algorithm is a set of instructions. Number the pictures from 1-5 in the correct order to show the steps to plant a seed. Don't forget: ✔ 1 is the first and beginning step

✔ 2 is the 2nd step

✔ 3 is the 3rd step

✔ 4 is the 4th step

✔ 5 is the 5th and last step.

Algorithm - How to plant a seed

Algorithm - How to brush my teeth

Make an algorithm about how to brush your teeth. 1. Draw five boxes in your workbook like in the picture. 2. Draw the steps in the correct order from beginning to end. It might help if you brush your teeth first to see what steps are needed. 3. Colour in your pictures and label them if you can.

In the space below, draw a picture of something you did outside today.

Mathematics

Practice counting as high as you can go.

What number did you reach?__________________________________

Challenge- Can you now count backwards?

How many ways can you make the number 5? Write as many sums as you can think of.

E. g. 1 and 4 is 5 (1+4=5)

Play a modified game of 'Go Fish-Relationships' -Start with 7 cards each.

-Instead of finding pairs of the same number, you will be finding pairs of cards that are 1 or 2 numbers away.

E.g.

5 and 7 are a pair- they are 2 numbers away.

1 and 2 are a pair- they are 1 number away.

STEM Challenge-Parachute challenge task card

Challenge

Construct a parachute using recycled materials as a canopy, string as the suspension lines and a toy as the cargo.

Rules

1. You can only use the materials on the list 2. Drop the parachute from an outstretched arm as high as you can reach Materials allowed

• Recycled material for the canopy, such as a sandwich bag, piece of paper, scrap material or a plastic bag

• string or dental floss or wool

• tape

• a toy that can be tied to string

• scissors

• timer (optional)

Brainstorm and design your parachute • Sketch some designs

• What materials could you use for the canopy of the parachute?

Tip: Think about ways to attach the canopy to the toy using string or wool and tape.

Time to build! Make and test your parachute • Make your parachute

• Do a test run. Test the parachute by dropping it from your outstretched arm as high as you can reach.

• Time how long it takes to reach the ground (optional)

• Draw or take a photo of your design

• Why do you think it did/did not work?

• What else could you try?

• Maybe you could use a different material for a canopy or change the shape of the canopy

Too easy? • Change the size or shape of the toy being held by the parachute

• How slow can you make the parachute go?

• Adjust the test height

• Test the parachute indoors and outdoors and compare results.
