Kim Shope Resume Professional Dance and Teaching Experience Kansas City Young Audiences Community School of the Arts 2007Current Head of Dance Department Community School of the Arts Created new Dance program with an emphasis on Ballet and Youth Development for students ages three to adult encompassing all skill levels. All programs meet Common Core Standards. Served on the design team 201212014 and continues to teach her workshop titled “Move ItGet Healthy” to elementary school students in mostly Title I schools. Selected in 2013 to create and teach a "Dance and Literacy" program for K3 grade students at Academy for Integrated Arts, a primarily low income African American school, using movement and dance to engage students in essential foundational reading skills. Trained and certified by the National Dance Institute New Mexico in 2013 Midtown School of Dance 19982007 Lead Dance Teaching Artist Responsible for all aspects of business, including curriculum development, teaching, accounting, marketing, website, sales, hiring, training and managing instructors, and three performances per year for 60 students. “Dance in the Park” 19972007 Served on core committee in charge of planning a free evening of dance in Roanoke Park involving thirteen professional performing groups from the Kansas City area. Responsibilities included choosing stage and lighting companies, program and poster design, choreographing for MTSD students, teaching preballet class on stage before performances. STUDIO 150 Summers 2000, 2001 Organized and implemented successful field test for employment and life skills program for diverse and economically challenged high school students of the arts. Choreographic training and experimentation culminated each year in collaborative performances created by the dancers. Kim Shope has been an integral part of Kansas City’s dance community since 1981. As the first graduate of the Kansas City Ballet School, she enjoyed a successful fourteen year career as a professional dancer. During this time she was chosen to further her skills and passion for dance by teaching in the company’s ballet school. Kim retired from Kansas City Ballet and opened Midtown School of Dance so she could continue to share her love of dance. In September of 2007, she formed a partnership with Kansas City Young Audiences and their Community School of the Arts and is now Head of the Dance Department. “Dance is for everybody. Company  Dancer  and  Ballet  Instructor    ♦   1989-­‐1996  Kansas  City  Ballet  School  Faculty  member  and  instructor  of  all  levels,  ages  seven  to  eighteen  ♦   1984-­‐1997  First  graduate  of  KCB  school.  Performed  many  soloist  and  principal  roles  in  ballets  by  Todd  Bolender,  George  

Balanchine,  Alvin  Ailey,  and  Margot  Sappington.  Roles  performed,  incorporated  ballet,  jazz,  modern,  and  tango.  ♦   1994-­‐1997  Voted  by  peers  to  be  liaison  between  dancers,  artistic  and  administrative  staff.  ♦   1996-­‐1998  Choreographed  and  premiered  three  dances  for  KCB's  experimental  work  program  "In  the  Wings".

Attended  Summer  Intensives  on  Full  Scholarship  and  trained  with  the  finest  Balanchine  Instructors  including  Suki  Schoer,  Alexandra  Danilova,  Richard  Rapp,  Stanley  Williams  and  many  more  inspiring  teachers.

♦   Kauffman  Performing  Arts  Center  Future  Stages  Festival  2014,  2015  Kansas  City  Young  Audiences  Community  School  of  the  Arts  Dance  Students  were  chosen  from  more  then  200  applications  to  perform  during  the  event  celebrating  diversity  in  the  Arts  and  showcasing  a  diverse  array  of  future  arts  performers.
