The Main Kikuyu Myth of

Origin God made Gkyand Mmbi andplaced him near 

Mount Kenya at a place called MkrwewaGathanga

Gky and Mmbi had 9 daughters but no sons:

Wanjir, Wambi, Njeri, Wanjik, Nyambra, Wairim,

Waithra, Wangar, andWang

Gky had to sacrifice to god (MweneNyaga or Ngai)

to get husbands for the daughters.

2nd Myth of Origin

Mmbere was first man who also created world

Had 3 sons: Maasai, Gky and Kamba

Gave them the choice of a spear, bow, or digging-stick: The Maasai chose the spear; the Kambachose the bow, and Gky preferred the digging-stick.

Maasai were told to hold the plains and keeplivestock, Gky was told to live by agriculture,and Dorobo to hunt game
