Kikuyu Constituency Education Projects

In order to improve the learning environment in our schools we embarked on an aggressive program to expand our primary and secondary schools as well as a face-lift program that has seen us create a conducive environment with already evident dividends of better performance in National Examinations over the last three years.

Nachu Technical Training Institute construction of a state of the art technical institute that will equip youth with technical skills to enable them access job opportunities or be self employed or create their own businesses. Completion work is on going on the project co-funded by Kikuyu CDF and Ministry of Education.

In an effort to increase the number of boarding schools we have invested in construction of boarding facilities at Kikuyu Boys, Musa Gitau Girls and Kikuyu Day Secondary. This is to increase the current capacity of our Boarding Schools in line with the vision to increase transition from Primary to Secondary School.

Nachu Secondary school was officially opened on 7th May 2013. There were no students and upon its opening, an enrollment of about 10 students was recorded. The CDF built two more classrooms, laboratory and administration block in the school as well as lockers and desks to accommodate the current population of over 200 students

CDF awarded the 2016 bursaries to 4457 beneficiaries amounting to Kshs. 17.5 million for applicants from form one to university students and including special schools children who benefited from kshs. 500,000. A further Kshs. 1,000,000 has been used to support youth who are in driving schools for both vehicle driving licenses and boda boda riders.

In 2013 Kikuyu constituency had only two health facilities. We promised that within the first two years we shall endeavor to have at least a health facility in each ward. We have achieved that, with the expansive Nachu, Karai and Sigona Wards having two each with the new KARI Health Centre, Gikambura Health Centre, Karai Muslim dispensary and Kerwa dispensary respectively.

Kikuyu Constituency Water Projects

Water is life and knowing that development can’t be achieved without availability of water we have made it one of our milestones to make sure that each and every area of the constituency has access to this great resource. We have partnered with different government as well as private bodies to ensure that the people of Kikuyu have access to this rare yet important resource.

Despite the water provision function being devolved, the Kikuyu member of parliament has gone beyond the call of duty to source for funding of various water projects from the corporate world. The EABL foundation through their CSR has been able to put a smile to the residents of Kerwa who since 1991, have had water shortages. The project involved 4km piping, renovation of the storage tank and drilling of a new borehole.

Further, Hon Kimani Ichung’wah was able to lobby and get from Athi water a contract for the drilling of a new borehole at Kanyanjara to serve the area which for long remained without any community borehole to curb water shortage. The residents will also have a water pan to do irrigation.

Kikuyu’s Town Transformation Keeping Residents on the move..

We have seen the transformation of Kikuyu town through the tarmacking of Kikuyu town roads by the National Government through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Planning’s Metropolitan Department and the tarmacking of Kikuyu town Steel Rolling, Sigona under the Ministry of Roads KENHA. Through the Department of Metropolitan we plan to construct a sewer system and new modern market in Kikuyu town.

To supplement CDF bursaries hon. Kimani Ichung’wah founded the Kikuyu Constituency Education Foundation (KICE) in 2013 the foundation has since then been offering full educational scholarships to hundreds of vulnerable students from across the constituency. The a hundred benefiting from this full scholarships would otherwise have missed opportunities to access high school and college education. Annually the MP has been donating over 1millio shillings per year and the program has been supported by the President, the deputy president and numerous other friends and the people of Kikuyu.
