Dear Readers,

Thank you so much for your interest and faithfulness to KidWise. We so appreciate your partnership in reading the material the Lord is releas-ing through this ministry to your families. Each year we are releasing issues of KidWise to you for: Winter (January/February), Spring (March/April), Summer (May/June), and Fall (September/October). We also have 2 special issues, a Patriotic issue release for July/August and a Christmas release for November/December. This issue is our July/August release and we are "Celebrating" Patriotism.

We are excited about the issues of KidWise and trust that the Lord will bless you and equip you as families for His purpose and plans. We know that He has blessed us with great blessing as individuals and as families. He has also blessed the country that we live in. We hope that this issue will help you "Celebrate" patriotism and your nation. As American fami-lies, celebrate your freedoms and your heritage, and if you live in another country, we pray that you will take this magazine and use the principles to celebrate your heritage as well. You can take our ideas and even change the colors to match your nation. For us here in America, we would like to send ideas your way that you may take our ideas and use them for the glory of God. We also hope that you will learn more about America and the importance of teaching 'patriotism' to your children, reminding them that Jesus Christ is the "Lord of All"!

Happy Celebrating our Freedoms in Christ!

Have faith in His word,

Pastors Rick and Kim Robinson

What is Patriotism? The dictionary defines it as a person who vig-orously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.

What is the importance of Patriotism in our lives?First and foremost, patriotism starts with an attitude of honor and respect. As Christians, the Lord wants us to honor and respect our freedoms and those who have given their lives for our freedoms. This would logically include the Word of God and what Jesus Christ has done for us. So as we learn the importance of patriotism and teach that to our children as well as live by it ourselves, we are going beyond patriotism for our country, we are applying a principle and an attitude.

Today children don't have a complete and total understanding or respect for 'patriotism' and what it means. Giving honor and respecting all that has been done for someone who has gone before you seems to be an old fashion principle. This is what the Lord called and required His people to do as He planned for them to cele-brate the passover. In that, He wanted them to honor what had been done by the shedding of the blood of the Lamb in the past of their lives, the present of their lives, and the future of their lives in the coming Lamb of God, Jesus.

So patriotism is an attitude that is important to teach your children and in doing so you will teach them how to honor God as well as how to respect their country, their roots, and the peo-

ple who have gone before them to protect their country and the right to live free.

What is another important principle of Patriot-ism?One of the most important principles of patriot-ism is found in its definition. Not only does pa-triotism teach our children about honor and respect, it will teach our children another im-portant principle that builds character in their lives. Everyone needs something to believe in and stand for. People all over the world are standing for something because it is part of humanity. It is a principle that we 'believe'. Un-belief is believing in something other than "truth", or what God has said, and what He has authored. People will fight and defend what they believe in. To define patriotism means as stated, to vigorously support and defend against enemies or detractors. To stand for what you believe in, and see others stand as well as fight for your country, the freedoms we have, and the Godly principles of our country, provides a strength of tenacious character that will benefit your children's lives. Their lives should encompass tenaciously standing for God's word, God's ways, and God's principles. Especially against the enemies of faith, truth, and God's word. Patriotism will teach them this principle as they witness it and participate through dedication and love for their country.

Here are some Building Blocks of Patriotism. Begin to build these principles and attitudes in your children and help them to "Celebrate" their country, their Godly heritage, and their faith.

KidWise 7

Page 7: KidWise Magazine - Celebrate America 2007

Building Block 1:Have a 'Patriotism' party and define what pa-triotism means. Have your children color flags, make cupcakes that match the colors of the flag, and teach them the importance of patriot-ism. Teach them about what the colors of the flag mean and why it has 50 stars.

Building Block 2:Talk to your children about their country and the freedoms God has gifted us with. Do it in the car, at the dinner table, on the way to school, before they go to bed, as they say their prayers. Teach them how America is a 'free' country and that not all countries allow the people or children to do what we do in America.

Building Block 3:Talk to your children about what Jesus has done for them. Be sure they have accepted Him as their Saviour and that they know He fought for "His" children by conquering the enemy of sin, the devil, and all that it would bring. Then tell them how others have laid down their lives for our country and its freedoms. Use the scrip-ture, "Greater love has no man than this than to lay down his life for his friends", John 15:13.

Building Block 4:Check out some material about your history. In America check out, 'Wallbuilder's' Ministry, www.wallbuilders.com . Talk to your children about the faith of those who were a part of es-tablishing the country they live in.

Building Block 5:Check out some of KICKS Club's "Celebrate America" materials and take some time with your children to watch them and participate with them. If you live in another country use this material to teach your children about how God has used America to touch their lives through KICKS Club and how He is using you and your family in your country to touch oth-ers.

Building Block 6:Teach your children the importance of voting. Teach them that this is the way that their voice is heard and that they can participate in big decisions for their country. Teach them how important it is to choose the right person for the job and that as Christians we should evalu-ate the principles and actions of those we choose. Talk to your children about how you vote and why you vote and that it is something for them to look forward to and that you will share your experience of voting with them.

Building Block 7:Pray for those in leadership and positions of government authority. Pray for America, the

President, and those in authority with your children. The Bible tells us in I Timothy 2:1-4 that we are to pray for those in authority that are making the important decisions for our country. Take a moment with your children to pray with them. Do it during grace before din-ner, or do it before they go to bed, or leave for school in the morning. Teach them that the Lord will move on behalf of His will, His ways, and His word for us in our nation and that He will protect our great nation.

Most importantly, we must teach our children and remember the scripture Isaiah 9:6 that, "the government rests upon His shoulders". We can see many instances in the Bible where God moved on kings and countries on behalf of His people. We as Christians need to exalt our Lord over our nation and teach our children to do the same. Jesus is Lord! Patriotism is so very important in your children's lives and it is equally important that they learn and see the Godly heritage that our great country has. Yet, the greatest heritage you have is the Lord Je-sus Christ.

As parents in America and if you are a parent of a KICKS Club member in another nation, we can teach our children that no matter what heritage our country has come from, it is the heritage of the Lord Jesus Christ that is our life source. Through that, we can all believe for God's freedoms to explode in our lives no mat-ter where we live, as we honor and respect His word. We must teach our children to uphold His word, His ways, and His freedoms first and foremost in their lives. As families, you can pray for your nation and trust that through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God has touched "na-tions" and individuals and His government will judge and define the nations of the world. Hon-oring Him foremost and vigorously supporting His cause is the root of all 'patriotism'.

We know that the 4th of July, and these hot summer months in general, means a lot of running and outdoor exercise. Teach

your kids this fun cheer they can say as they’re running and having a good time. And when it’s a special occa-

sion and friends family are around, they can teach it to them, as well. Fun for everyone!

As you’re running around, shout this aloud --

I’m running, I’m runningI’m running with the Lord!

I’m running, I’m runningI’m running with His word!

I’m running, I’m runningI’ve got the victory!

I’m running, I’m runningJesus lives in ME!

KICKS-ER-CISE

Hey kids!Running and having fun is such great exercise! Every-body loves to play outside during the summer, right? Well, this summer, be sure to drink plenty of water while you’re outside and don’t forget to put on some sun screen, too! Have fun playing with your family and friends and sharing some laughs. And be sure to share this fun little cheer with them -- it’ll be a summer like never before!

Page 11: KidWise Magazine - Celebrate America 2007

Everyone loves some summer-day outdoor activities, right? But maybe you feel like you’re running out of ideas. Here are a few simple things that you can do with your kids. They’ll have a ball!

1. Get out the hose! Yeah, a little bit of old summer tradition -- but so much fun! If you

have a sprinkler, hook that up to the end of the hose and watch your kiddos have a blast playing

in the water. And even if you don’t have a sprin-kler, you can still have fun together taking turns

with the hose and getting each other wet!

2. Grab some kick-balls! Once again, simple but fun. Your kids will have a blast kicking it around the yard for a bit.

You can play kickball, dodgeball, or even just tossing it back and forth is great fun (and great exercise!).

3. Color outside. Grab some crayons and paper (or you can print some of Elmer’s coloring pages found on the KICKS Club website - www.kicksclub.org) and take coloring outside. FInd a picnic table or sit under a tree for shade and have some fun together drawing and coloring your surroundings or the activities you have done throughout the day. 4. Bubbles. Who knew something so simple could be so much fun? Your little ones will be full of giggles while trying to catch the bubbles. Take turns seeing who can blow the biggest bubble, or see how long one can go before it pops!

We hope you’ll give some of these simple outdoor activities a try. Most importantly, we hope that you have a lot of fun this summer spending time together as a family that is blessed and living for Him!

My Country Tis Of Thee

This 4th of July I want to compel you to stop and think about where the gift of living in a free country came from. As the words of the song say "sweet land of liberty of thee we sing", the freedoms

we enjoy and many times take for granted, are a direct gift of God.

Freedom is a God principle that has inspired our countrymen from the very birth of this great nation. Yes, men and women have died to preserve that gift and make certain that it is passed on to the following generation. The willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice has been, and is fueled by, a passion for God's desire of freedom for His creation. The very idea of freedom and liberty is God's plan for each and everyone's life. God does not want us to be in bondage to anyone or anything. Not even a political leader, a bottle of alcohol, a tobacco leaf, any drug, or even a cup of coffee. So, this 4th of July, let’s not only celebrate the country we live in, let’s also celebrate the author of all liberty. The Bible says He came to give us "LIFE" and that more abundantly. "Celebrate JESUS!"

Bonus:Did you notice the tag on the napkin in the Fruity Flag photo? You can make this quick and easy (and, of course, patriotic!) tag for your America Celebrations! We used a blue chipboard tag (Making Memories), a chipboard star (BasicGrey) painted red with acrylic paint, and a button. What does being a patriot mean? A patriot is one who loves and defends his or her

country! Elmer went to Williamsburg and de-cided he was going to be a patriot. He even wore

a patriot’s hat!

Who are some of the men who were patriots?Patrick Henry, George Washington, Thomas Jef-

ferson, and John & Samuel Adams are some of the well known ‘patriots’, but there are many

others! Did you know there were even women who are known as patriots? Betsy Ross,

Clementina Rind, and even a girl named Sybil Ludington who was only 16! You are never too

young to stand for what is right!

We can stand and say ‘I Am A Patriot!!’We believe in our country and can pray for her everyday. We love America and we know that

our country stands for freedom and truth. We are a liberated nation because brave patriots stood bold and brave for what they believed.

I am so thankful for America and the history of these wonderful, brave men and women.

They went before us to stand for our freedom and liberty. They fought for the laws and foun-dation of our country, based on Christian prin-

ciples. These men found their faith, boldness, and stand for freedom in the God of the Bible. They believed in God’s ways and wanted a na-tion built on them! America is a wonderful land that God has

given us. May we continue to be brave people who will stand in the victory that God has given this country as we have faith-fully fought and stood for God’s ways and freedom to all men.
