Youth Quilt Camp .... with Beth & JeanA. 9:00 – Noon Tue. thru Fri. Mar. 28 – 31B. 9:00 – Noon Tue. thru Fri. May 30 – June 2

Give your kids something productive to do with their free time. They will have lots of fun making their very own machine pieced quilt in this easy quilting class. Students aged 8 to 10 years will have assistance cutting their pieces. Students 10+ years will explore rotary cutting techniques. Machine piecing with a 1/4” seam will be covered and how to make the quilt sandwich, turn, and hand or machine tie the quilt. Students must have taken at least one basic kids sewing class from AQC within the last year to take this more advanced class. The Camp fee is $150 which includes all the materials needed to make this fun quilt.

Many of these classes are scheduled on early-out or off days for the Columbia Public Schools!

Easy Pillowcase .... with BethA. 9 – Noon Mon. Feb. 6Your child will enjoy learning how to create a fun pillowcase in this class. They will be able to pick their own colorful prints that reflect their personality. Fee $30.

This easy to sew pattern is great for the beginner (12 years or older) or the seasoned sewer. Take your sewing to the next level and learn to make these easy pajama pants! Everyone loves warm and cozy pj pants whether they’re made from cotton or soft flannel. Fee $45.

Handy Pencil Bag A. 2:00 – 4:00 PM Tue. Mar. 7

This handy pencil bag is fast, fun and easy! It will easily clip to your backpack or belt. Get organized in the new year. Use this fun bag to carry pencils, pens, and other important stuff! This is a great beginner class and a great way to enjoy your half day off from school! The class fee includes the cost of project supplies and pattern. Fee $18.

The pattern provides for both large or small bag sizes for a wide range of laptop or tablet dimensions. The bag is padded with foam to securely protect your equipment. There is both an interior and exterior pocket plus a center divider in the interior. Fee $65.

San Diego Tunic .... with SusanA. 9:00 – 1:00 PM Sat. Feb. 25 & Mar. 4Get ready for Spring with this loose-fitting tunic. Only 4 pieces make an overlapping placket, sleeves, collar, and the facings. You may elect to make your tunic with an asymmetrical hem or a straight one. Our selection of double gauze cotton fabrics make an easy cool choice. Fee $65.

Diva Wallet .... with SusanA. 1:00 – 4:00 PM Sun. Mar. 5 & 12Ever wished you could create the perfect wallet for all your cards and folding money? Well now you can! We will explore decorative stitching with the circle attachment on the outside and create pockets and zippered closures on the inside to form this amazing wallet. Finish your new wallet with this fun easy frame. You may decide to make several different wallets to experience all the options. Fee $60.

Hexie Zip Pouch .... with SuzanneA. 1:00 – 4:00 PM Sun. Mar. 12 Explore English paper piecing, a simple hand technique, with Suzanne on Sunday, Feb. 26. Then join her for this follow up class to create a fun retro pouch. Learn quick quilting skills and easy zipper and construction techniques. Fee $40.

Swivel Hook Tote .... with SuzanneA. 9:00 – Noon Sat. Apr. 1 & 15 A simple metal hook serves as the focal point of this great bag. When you have a lot to carry, simply unhook to use the bag as a conventional tote. Customize your tote with two fun pieced sections and monogram if desired. Then quilt your tote sections and assemble with Suzanne’s help. What a fun project for the Spring. Fee $60.

Fresh Blooms Block Of the Month .... with WendyA. 1:00 – 4:00 PM Sat. Mar. 18, Apr. 15, June 3, June 24, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Jan. 20If you are new to machine embroidery or applique and quilting in the hoop, this fun new Block of the Month series from OESD is the perfect option for you to become more proficient with your embroidery machine. Each block will teach you new techniques including thread velvet and other fun stitch types. The curved piecing is done easily as appliques in the hoop. Plus explore machine quilting and continuous border quilting in the hoop for the quilt.The Fresh Blooms Quilt will be taught in 10 monthly sessions giving you plenty of time to complete each block. The quilt consists of nine 12” blocks and quilted borders to finish at 52” x 52”. Add more blocks to make your quilt larger if desired. You will receive all embroidery and quilting files plus png files for the Cameo Silhouette. You will also receive full color step-by-step instructions for making each block, and assembling the quilt. Directions also include directions for creating a second 20” square project for an accent pillow or wall hanging (see below right). The registration fee is $60*. Then each month the class and design fee will be $12. This class will be a hands-on format.

Felted Butterflies .... with WendyA. 10:00 – 2:00 PM Fri. Mar. 10 & Apr. 7Welcome Spring with this easy felted Butterfly Quilt. Wendy will show you how fun it is to do felting in the hoop of your machine embroidery. You will be amazed! *Fee $70.

Moonlight Nightscapes .... with WendyA. 10 – 2 PM Wed. Mar. 15, Apr. 19 & May 24There is magic in this moonlit night scene. Join Wendy for this fun class to learn how to easily piece and applique in the hoop of your embroidery machine. The project is made from different tile scenes joined together to make a stunning wall hanging. *Fee $95.

Bunny Town Block of the Month .... with MarilynA. 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sat. Apr. 8, May 13, June 17, July 8, Aug. 12, Sept. 9 & Oct. 14 Join Marilyn to create this adorable bunny quilt in this year’s new 7 month Bunny Town Block of the Month Program. You can become an expert digitizer as you learn to use Premier Plus Ultra or 6D Premier to digitize this fun applique in the hoop quilt. Bunny Town comprises five different bunny houses and a pieced carrot and applique bunny border. *Class registration is $50 plus the monthly $10 charge. If you desire, we can special order a fabric kit which will contain all the fabrics used in this adorable quilt plus the bunny accessories, and patterns for $164.95, or if you decide to pull your own fabrics, the collection of patterns and accessories is $48.

Explore how to take PDF’s, existing appliqué stitch files, and cut files from embroidery software to the cutter and arrange them for a perfectly sized cut. You will also learn how to prepare the fabric for best results. Fee $40.

Signs of Spring .... with MarilynA. 9:00 – Noon PM Sat. Mar. 4 & 18Join Marilyn for this fun software class to learn to digitize your own patterns for appliqué in the hoop. Then easily stitch out the design in your embroidery hoop. We will also include instructions for using the Silhouette Cameo cutter to pre-cut your appliques. No more trimming in the hoop needed! Students must have completed their AQC Premier+ Ultra Digitizing embroidery software guide lessons before taking this class. *Fee $60.

Dresden Applique .... with MarilynA. 10:00 – 4:00 PM Sat. Apr. 22Wow! A new twist on an old favorite, using fun new techniques that would make our grandmothers smile! Join Marilyn as we make a sampler of different embroideries on Dresden appliques. Use your Silhouette Cameo cutter to cut out all the pieces. The opportunity for using Premier+ Ultra to combine elements for stitching out in a single hooping and quilting while still in the hoop will be provided for those who wish to do so. Basic Hand Smocking ....with LoueseA. 1:00 – 4:00 PM Sun. Feb. 19Learn the basics of delicate geometric hand smocking used in both children’s and adult clothing and heirloom sewing. This class is to get you started with the fundamentals. Fee $40.

Techniques for Finishing a Smocked Project .... with LoueseA. 1:00 – 4:00 PM Wed. May 3 & 17 Learn how to finish a smocked project when the smocking is completed. It will include blocking, 3 kinds of plackets, buttons and buttonholes, making and applying piping, application of smocking to flat fabric, and neck band applications for a bishop dress. This is the next step to becoming an accomplished smocker! A kit will be available for purchase by the student. The kit will include two pieces of pleated fabric, piping cording, bias cut fabric for piping, and another piece for neck band application, and a hand-out. The student will use the kit to make a smocked insert that may be made into a pillow, a purse, a framed picture, or a garment. Fee $60.

Many prize worthy quilts have failed due to shoddy binding. Learn the basic techniques of applying perfect quilt binding with either straight grain or bias strips. Master continuous bias binding and precise mitered corners on both the front and back sides. Fee $35.

It’s not a quilt until it’s quilted! Join Marilyn to learn basic machine quilting techniques. Learn how to layer the quilt sandwich and quilt it with stitch-in-the-ditch and straight line quilting. If you have a programmable computerized machine, Marilyn will show you how to do mock hand quilting easily by machine. Then, if you have an embroidery machine, explore computerized quilting in the hoop. Fee $60.

Free Motion Quilting .... with HelenA. 10:00 – 4:00 PM Sat. Mar. 25Spend a day with Helen to explore basic free motion quilting techniques. You may start with a small wall hanging or fun panel for the class project. Learn the basic motions and skills needed to let your stitching flow smoothly and effortlessly. Explore multiple basic design elements in class. Soon you too will be doing amazing free motion quilting. Fee $60.

Take your free motion skills to the next level in this all day class with Helen. You will be using free motion techniques to create this easy bag. Fee $60.

Free Motion Ruler Play .... with Jackie & HelenA. 10:00 – 4:00 PM Tue. & Wed. Apr. 25 & 26Helen and Jackie are teaming up to bring you two exciting days of free motion ruler work! This class is for students new to ruler work and those who were able to attend Paula Reid’s Workshop last fall. Together we will show you how these amazing templates can be used in different ways to create different designs. Learn how to plan your design and mark your quilt for best results. Day one will begin with the basics of ruler work and how to set up your machine and work area. We will dive right into creating basic designs, secondary designs and marking for a sampler quilt which we will start on day two. Fee $95.

Thread Painting .... with Helen & JackieA. 10:00 – 4:00 PM Fri. & Sat. May 5 & 6Let your creative juices flow and have fun with your free motion skills! You will learn basic thread painting and shading techniques to

Give Back Sew Days Give Back Fridays .... with Beth & Staff

Join Beth and the AQC staff one Friday a month to donate your time and talents for worthy causes in the community. We will support a different group or charity each quarter. This quarter we will be making pillowcases for Ryan’s Case for Smiles Children’s Program (formerly ConKerr Cancer) and tote bags for Operation Christmas Child.Please join us by giving an hour or a day to give back to the community. No special skills are required, just a willingness to help. Appletree Quilting will provide the space, machines, fabric, sewing guidance, plus snacks and chocolate, of course! If you have any clean usable fabric to donate for our causes, we would greatly appreciate it. Bless you.No charge for this event, just free fun and fellowship plus our thanks and God’s blessings!

FREE Open Sewing on Mondays

10:00 – 5:00 PM Mondays - Space Permitting! If there are no classes being held in the class room on Monday, Appletree Quilting Center will offer FREE Open Sewing for the benefit and convenience of our customers. If you need more space and better lighting for a project, simply call on Mondays to ensure the classroom is available. Machine Guide LessonsIf you purchased your Viking or BERNINA machine or software from AQC, your guide lessons are FREE and you may repeat them as often as you like (space permitting). If you purchased your machine elsewhere and would like to take your owner’s guide lessons with Appletree Quilting, you must register for the complete set of lessons provided for your particular machine or software:

If the class meets: one time, the fee will be $150; two times, the fee will be $300; three times, the fee will be $450; or four times, the fee will be $600.

Please register for guide classes at least one week prior to the beginning of a class series.

Class & Special Event PoliciesYour class fee is due at registration. This guarantees

your place in class. Class size is limited. So please register early. Sometimes a great class is cancelled because people wait to the last minute to register. Each class needs a minimum enrollment at least three days before it begins.

Full refunds or store credits will be issued only if the class is cancelled by AQC due to bad weather or insufficient registration. Any class cancellation made by the student must be received 7 days before the class in order to receive a store credit less a $5 processing fee; no refunds will be given. Credits or refunds are not available on special events.

You will receive a class supply list upon registration. Students will receive a 15% discount off all nonsale fabrics and notions for class supplies. Machine Quilting Workshopswith Paula Reid

Fluff N Stuff Machine Quilting10:00 – 4:00 Monday & Tuesday, Sept. 12 & 13

This great class will start with “batting practice” and work through the use of your walking foot and darning foot. You will explore free motion techniques plus working with quilt stencils and decorative threads. By running the class over two or more days, participants will have the time to learn to “handle the bulk” by working on their own larger quilt tops rather than just a small sample. Paula will share her invaluable tips and expertise for stream lining the quilting process. Registration fee $175.

Ruler Play on a Domestic Machine10:00 – 4:00 Wednesday, Sept. 14

Have you ever seen longarm quilters using rulers to keep their lines straight while in free motion? Or maybe executing curves and circles without having to draw on their quilts? Now, Leonie West of Australia has designed a system for domestic machines so that we can use rulers, too! Her rulers are so mathematically precise that you will get beautiful results with a minimum of marking on your quilts. Once you have drawn your placement lines, you are good to go! The Westalee rulers have taken the thought out of figuring out where and how to place the ruler to get the best outcome. This is really fun, easy and time saving! Registration fee $90.

Often described as an “artist with a sewing machine”, Paula Reid is a custom heirloom quilting specialist. Paula made her first quilt in April 1990, three weeks after attending the Glendale (California) Quilt Show with her best friend, Mary Ponce. Paula taught her first machine piecing class two years later, but found that her heart was captured by the quilting process. Machine quilting on her first Bernina machine was her very favorite way to spend time. In 1993, Paula opened her machine quilting business, utilizing the skills she had developed working on her own quilts. Since the day that she made her very first quilt, she has quilted over 1,400 quilts, all on her regular home machines. Of these, 50% have been queen size, 25% king size and the other 25% were various smaller sizes. The largest quilt she has ever “fluffed and stuffed” was 112” x 128”! “Fluff & Stuff” is what Paula calls her method for moving large quilts through a home machine. She began teaching workshops on her techniques in the southern California region in 1993, expanding to national teaching a few years later when appearances on “Simply Quilts” brought her to the attention of a larger audience. Now spending weeks at a time on the road, she has decided that nothing is more fun than sharing ideas with the quilters she meets on her travels.
