Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), first reported in 1967, is an inherited disease in Persian and Persian-cross cats

The first was located in 1985 on chromosome 16 for humans

found primarily in the kidney but they can also affect other organs, including the liver, pancreas, spleen and ovary

DIAGNOSISdiagnostic kidney imaging is ultrasound, but more precise studies, such as computerized tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) , or IVP

To find it early you need physical checkups and blood and urine tests

TransmissionIt is passed down through families, it is an dominant or recessive trait

It is co-dominance

It is caused by a mutation, but the mutation will never go away

Ex) one parent has it, 50% of the children

will have the disease

Signs & Symptoms

These symptoms will start and stay through your life…

Abdominal pain or tenderness

Blood in the urine

Excessive urination at night

Flank pain on one or both sides

Drowsiness

High blood pressure

Joint pain

Nail abnormalities

Painful menstruation

TreatmentIn the following points these will make you feel better:

Blood pressure medicines

Diuretics

Low-salt diet

kidney dialysis or kidney transplantation

But, there is no real treatment to get rid of the whole thing
