Friday Sermon

• In conjunction with this new year, let’s maintain our iman and the feeling of fearing God by evaluating ourselves, be passionate in doing ibadah and preventing ourselves from doing sins.

• Those who are capable of preventing himself from evil act and wrong deeds are among the successful believers.


Brothers in Islam

• Do remember that today is the 1st of January 2010. We are a year older since 2009. The older we become the nearer we are to death, which we cant escape from.

• و� ك�نت�م� } �لـ �و�ت� و �د�ر%كك#م� ال�مـ � يـ� وا ا ت�ك�ونـ� ��ي�ن�مـ أ

ي/د�ة- �وج- م#ش 78النساء: ] {...ف%ي ب�ر� ]Meaning: Wherever you may be, death will overtake you even though you be in towers raised high…”


• Ask ourselves whether we are well prepared to face our death or we are still in the same path of doing sins.

• If we are in the fisrt category Alhamdulillah but if we are in the second category, think of this verse as mentioned in Quran:

و } ر%م�ون� ن�اك%س� ج� %ذ% ال�م� ى إ �ل�و� ت�ر �وم� بDه% �ند� ر م� ع% ه% ؤ�وس% ر�

ع�ن�ا ن�ع�م�ل� ج% ار� �ع�ن�ا ف م% �ن�ا و�س ر� ��ب�ص ب/ن�ا أ �ر�ن�ون %ن/ا م�وق% ا إ Mال%ح �]12{ ]السجدة: ص

Mean: If thou couldst but see [how it will be on Judgment Day], when those who are lost in sin will hang their heads before their Sustainer, [saying:] “O our Sustainer! [Now] we have seen, and we have heard! Return us, then, [to our earthly life] that we may do good deeds: for [now], behold, we are certain [of the truth]!”


• From that verse, we know that bad things will happen to those who lost in sin, where Allah will ignore their complaints in hereafter.

• Young age, good health and wealth are the factors that keep believer from the real path.


Brothers in Islam

• We can see that new year celebrations in Malaysia that celebrated by Muslim teenagers are contradict of that Islamic principle.

• If this keep happenning we are far from being khaira ummah as Allah mentioned in Quran:


وف� �مع�ر� �ال ون ب م�ر�� أ �اس� ت �لن �خ�ر�جت� ل م�ة� أ

� �ر أ ي �م� خ �نت ك"ه� �الل �ون ب �ؤ�م�ن ر� وت �م�نك �هو�ن عن� ال ن ...وت

Mean: YOU ARE indeed the best community that has ever been brought forth for [the good of] mankind: you enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong, and you believe in God.

• It is our responsible to be the khaira ummah which promotes good actions and prevents evil acts.


Brothers in Islam

• As an educated person, let us think what would happen in the future if we aim to be khaira ummah (best ummah) in this world and hereafter.

• Our Deen never prevent us from celebrating any kind of festivals as long as that festival is in line with Islamic principle.


Brothers in Islam

• Actually, each of us need to reflect and learn something from the year before.

• The year 2009 was full of happiness and not to forget sorrowfullness that happened in Palestine, Thailand, Afghanistan, Iraq and the latest Indonesia’s tsunami.

• We must also consider the things happened around us as an individual.


• We should keep in mind that there are significant effects behind all events; they are helping and guiding us to the real path.

• The events remind us of who we really are, where we come from and where do we go after life.

• We must live our life to the fullest based on the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet.


• Quran that we possess must be practised in daily life as Allah mentioned: ن�ا ت�ح� �� ل�ف وا �ات/ق �� و ن�وا �ى آم �ر ل�و� أ�ن/ أ�ه�ل� ال�ق� �و

ض% ر��اء و�األ �م ك�ات- مDن� الس/ �م ب�ر ع�ل�ي�ه%

�ب�ون � ي�ك�س% ا ك�ان�وا �ذ�ن�اه�م ب%م �أ�خ �� ف ك%ن ك�ذ/ب�وا �لـ �و

Mean: Yet if the people of those communities had but attained to faith and been conscious of Us, We would indeed have opened up for them blessings out of heaven and earth: but they gave the lie to the truth - and so We took them to task through what they [themselves] had been doing.PUSAT ISLAM UNIVERSITI UTARA MALAYSIA

• Let us make this new year better than last year by increaing our efforts to be the best servant of Allah.

• Let us do good deeds that Allah want us to do and prevent ourself from evil acts.
