Level 3 -- Stroke Development

Our instructors follow a plan to introduce new swimming and water safety skills and to build on previously learned skills. Your child learns to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary levels, is introduced to the scissors and dolphin kicks, learns the survival float and increases the time duration for treading water. Your child also learns the rules for headfirst entries and begins to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside. Milestones for Level 3 include:n Flutter, scissors, breaststroke and dolphin kicks.n Jumping into deep water from the side, recovering to the surface, maintaining position by treading or floating for 1

minute, rotating a full turn and then turning as necessary to orient to the exit point.n Swimming the front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards and then exiting the water.n Pushing off in a streamlined position, swimming the front crawl for 15 yards, changing position and direction, swimming

the elementary backstroke for 15 yards and then exiting the water.

Youth Tennis LessonsWe are happy to have Eastside Tennis and Fitness returning this summer to provide excellent tennis instruction for your children.

Their goal, and ours, is to introduce children to tennis in an environment which is encouraging, supportive and most of all, fun!

If children are having a good time on the court, they will want to return. It’s that simple!

The hope is to instill a love for tennis in your child so that they will enjoy this great sport for a lifetime.

Classes will be held rain or shine. Refunds will not be given due to poor weather. In the event of poor weather, class will be held in the Warming Building.

Stage 1This program is designed to help children find success from their very first swing. A scaled down size court, low compression balls and lower nets are used. The emphasis is on having fun, introducing the basics and developing coordination and agility.

Stage 2The basic tennis strokes will be introduced: forehand, backhand, volley, overhead and serve, along with correct grip and good footwork. Emphasis will be on learning good

technique right from the start, for students to create good tennis habits to build on.

Stage 3For players that have had a year or more of consistent tennis instruction and playing. These players should be able to rally a ball several times back and forth over the net. All basic tennis strokes will be refined to ensure good technique. Students will learn how to construct a good point through various drills. Basic strategy and court positioning will also be introduced.

Beginner/Advanced BeginnerAll basic tennis strokes and footwork will be developed and refined. Actual tennis games will be played to introduce the students to scoring and strategy.

Placement into the different stages should be based on experience and age. However, there are other important factors such as the height of the child, eye-hand coordination and movement abilities. We encourage parents to put their child in the class that most fits their child, but understand that sometimes the player’s available times just do not correlate to the proper class. In such situations we encourage attempted participation, but ask that participants/parents understand that class curriculum cannot be altered for just one child.
