December 3rd is Giving Tuesday. It was created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good. It is the biggest giving day of the year. Making monetary donations is probably the way most people donate, but there are many other ways to help: 1. Give Time. There are many nonprofits that need your help. You can volunteer at your local Food Bank, Goodwill Store, Salvation Army and other agencies. Look at all of the Projects that Pilots do around the Country. 2. Give Voice We all have the power and passion to transform our community by advocating for causes we care about. Whether it's a petition for Animals, Human rights, Health issues, Politics or Women's rights, let your voice be heard. 3. Give Dollars Nonprofits work tirelessly to make a difference in our communities. Make a monetary donation to help with their programs. 4. Give Goods Organize a donation drive. Collect food, toiletries, clothes, and books for so many organizations that need these things. 5. Give Kindness Buy someone a cup of coffee, smile at a stranger, hug someone for no reason, tell someone that they are awesome. There are so many ways to show that you care, 6. Give Talent Many nonprofits can't afford the marketing, technology, or planning resources that their missions deserve. Consider giving your skills to help in these areas. These are just a few suggestions for Giving Tuesday. All of us have things that we like to do for others. Let's make our contribution count. Happy Holidays to all of our Pilot members and their families.

It is that time of the year again….and I don’t mean the Holidays! It is District Officer Nomination Sea-
son!!
Beginning in December, clubs can nominate individuals for district offices. Send the club’s nomination/s
to Rhonda Stemmer, Nominating Committee Chair at [email protected].
The nominee must meet the following criteria for the officers listed below.
Governor-Elect:
• A dues paying member of the District
• Not going to be serving as Club President or International Officer (July 2020-June 2021)
• Has served as club president
Secretary:
• A dues paying member of the District
• Not going to be serving as Club President or International Officer (July 2020-June 2021) • Has served on a Pilot Club Executive Board
Treasurer:
• A dues paying member of the District
• Not going to be serving as Club President or International Officer (July 2020-June 2021) • Has served on a Pilot Club Executive Board
Serving as an officer of the KY-OH-WV District can be a time consuming, demanding position. However, on the positive side, it provides the individual with an opportunity to understand Pilot and the District at
a deeper level. It provides the opportunity for the individual to meet new Pilots and guide the District in
a positive direction for the future.
If you or someone you know is interested in a District Officer posi-tion, please contact Governor Gale, myself, Secretary Greta or
Treasurer Sharon for more information. We are more than willing to
answer any questions you may have about the District Officer posi-
tion you may interested in.
SO LET’S START NOMINATING…….

Governor Elect’s Message
Page 3 Year 2019-2020
“This is that time of the year....” That’s right, for many of us; it’s the holiday season. Whether you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Winter Solstice, or call it New Year’s Eve or Omi-soka, New Year’s or Shogatsu, it’s a time for decorating, for shopping, for gathering together to eat, drink, and spend time with those we love. As Pilots, this time of year is not only one of celebration, but also one of opportunity. Many clubs host fundraisers during the holiday season, it’s a great time to show appreciation to caregivers with a Pick-Me-Up, and the possibilities for service are endless. Let’s all take the time to remember those less fortunate than us, those whose losses make this a season of sadness, and those whose celebrations might be limited by the frailty of their body or mind. As Pilots, let us all do our part to spread a bit of the joy of this season through our friend-ship and with our service. And throughout the holidays and the New Year ahead, may Pilots be a blessing to others, and may we be blessed, every one.

PILOT CLUB OF HUNTINGTON
The Pilot Club of Huntington’s members are always busy working on our Annual Antiques Show and Sale. We
just finished our 67th
year. Some Pilots work going to other Shows to get new vendors, getting ads for our pro-
gram book and obtaining items for our Silent Auction. This past August we cleared $15,000 to give back in
Grant's. With Last year's funds, we helped purchase a car for disabled children for Safety Town (City of Hunting-
ton Foundation). The rest of our funds went to various grant requests from nonprofit organizations in the area.
On the first Saturday of each month the Fellowship
Committee chooses a local restaurant for us to meet and
enjoy lunch together.
Pilots attended the Ergo Sum: A Crow a Day exhibit at the
Huntington Museum of Art. Pilot was a sponsor of this
exhibit that deals with responding to a year in the life of an Alzheimer’s patient.
Our club goes each year to the Veterans Home for a Bingo Party and we give them Bingo money and serve
snacks. At one of our club meetings we filled bags for the Veterans Home.
President Suzanne Ellis started a new Coin Project this year. She gave us small jars to put our extra change in and we
bring them each month to our meeting. She has someone to match what we bring and we give the funds to a local charity
each month. In the past we did this only we brought food for food banks, items for a local dog shelter, socks and flip
flops for Golden Girls, paper products for the Domestic Violence shelter, Salvation Army and others. So far this year
we have given to the Huntington High Food Bank, Golden Girls, Huntington Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
We walk each year in the Annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s and as a Sil-ver sponsor the Pilot Emblem is on the back of the tee shirts. This year we provided the Captain’s Quarters table for Team Captain’s apprecia-tion bags.
We volunteer each year for the Salvation Army's annual Thanksgiving Din-ner. Pilots volunteer to help in the kitchen to prepare food and others help serve.
We ring bells for them in December. We work in two or three all day.
Pilot members attend the Huntington High
School Fun Night each year with their BrainMinder Buddies.
Pilots vvolunteer for Girls Night for young girls.
Leadership in Pilot is all about the purpose.
How to achieve our Mission: “To influence positive change in communities throughout the world.
To do this we come together in friendship and service, focusing on encouraging brain safety and health and
supporting those who care for others”.
So we know our end goal, the next step is “how”. Our clubs are mission oriented and we succeed as a team when all hands pull their weight. We learn from others by unleashing initiative rather than suffocating
it. Groups with diverse talents are the strongest. Learn and listen to our maverick thinkers. This gives op-
portunities and direction for the clubs to decide their “how”.
If you know everyone needs a friend, a purpose, and a chance to belong to something greater than them-
selves then you are on the right track to become a leader.
Patti Mettle Leadership Coordinator
"If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody. "--Chinese proverb
I hope this finds all of our members healthy, happy, and ready for the holidays. As you are doing your decorating, baking, and Turkey roasting, take a mo-ment each day to remember those less fortunate. Even a small gesture, like a wave hello, can bright-en someone's day. This will make you happy too....for a lifetime.
