In the Pink!

This year Kelsey Theatre celebrates its Ruby Pink 40th Anniversary with a salute to the ladies. We’re tickled pink to bring you a season full of strong, masterful, determined, feisty women (and a few grouchy old men). From the loving mother spider in Charlotte’s Web to Gypsy’s Mama Rose, from tiny Thumbelina to the adventurous Maria in The Sound of Music, and from a smart-talking female canine in Martha Speaks to the forceful Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, each of these characters will amaze and inspire. And smack dab in the middle of our season – Reock & Roll’s Music from Big Pink. So pink it is! As Elle Woods from Legally Blonde would say – “You can’t have too much pink!” And, according to Mama Rose from Gypsy, “Everything’s Coming Up Roses!” – pink ones of course. ……………………………………………………………………………………In our tribute to women – mothers, sisters and daughters – we can’t miss the opportunity to encourage all women to further their education and realize their potential for leadership. We also offer a gentle reminder to get regular medical exams to stay strong and healthy for all the people who care about and count on you. And, think about supporting worthy organizations dedicated to women’s issues. Because strong women can change the world!

Give your Valentine Love Letters! M&M Productions brings A.R. Gurney’s extraordinarily successful play to Kelsey Theatre. Simply conceived, beautifully constructed, and intoxicating as Pink Champagne, this touching story is both witty and bittersweet as it follows the “near misses” of a relationship through a lifetime of letters. From summer camps and boarding schools, through college, war, career and romance, we watch the journey between free-spirited but unstable artist Melissa Gardner (played by Kelsey’s M. Kitty Getlik) and dutiful lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III (played by Walter Smyth).……………………………………………………………………………………

Maurer Productions OnStage, the Perry Award-winning group that brought us last year’s AIDA, Laughter on The 23rd Floor, and The Drowsy Chaperone, is back with a recent Broadway musical that won the Tony Award for Best Musical when it opened. However we are not yet allowed to reveal the name. Let’s just say that it has absolutely nothing to do with Jim Henson Company, The Muppets or Sesame Workshop, which have no responsibility for its content. Oh, and this one is rated Shocking Pink - it’s really not for kids!

GypsyFRI. MAR. 15 & 22, 2013 @ 8 pm | SAT. MAR. 16 & 23 @ 8 pm | SUN. MAR. 17 & 24 @ 2 pm Pierrot Productions says “Let us entertain you” with the classic musical fable about the definitive stage mother, Mama Rose, who pushes her two children into show business at any cost to fulfill the dream of stardom she never achieved herself. Critically acclaimed as one of the great American musicals and based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, this exquisitely-crafted musical casts an affectionate eye on the hardships of show business during the 1920s, when Vaudeville was dying and Burlesque was born. ……………………………………………………………………………………

Step into the Kit Kat Klub and come hear the music play as MCCC’s talented Theater and Dance Program and Entertainment Technology Majors present Kander and Ebb’s Tony Award-winner. Set in 1931 Berlin, the musical captures the essence of a society on the brink of massive change. This upheaval is mirrored in the intertwined lives of the characters – denizens of a seedy nightclub and a nearby boarding house – all overseen by the nightclub’s creepy Master of Ceremonies. The show’s upbeat music reflects leftover Roaring ‘20s optimism, while the lyrics reveal an almost Kurt Weill/Berthold Brecht-like sense of cynicism, decadence and moral ambivalence.

This warmly perceptive study of a spirited, elderly couple facing their twilight years was later made into a hit motion picture starring Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda. Norman Thayer, a cranky 80-year-old retired professor, makes his annual summer pilgrimage with his wife Ethel to their New England summer cottage on a lake called Golden Pond. Their solitude is interrupted when the couple’s daughter arrives with her fiancé and teenage son in tow. In this hilarious Christmas tale, a couple struggling to put on a church pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids – probably the most inventively awful kids in history. You won’t believe the mayhem, and the fun, when the Herdmans, led by their particularly fiesty oldest sister, collide with the Christmas story head on! The Kelsey Players and Tomato Patch present this comedy where chaos erupts and the firemen arrive, and even the Reverend is ready to cancel Christmas, but in the process everyone learns the true reason for the season.

Dear Kelsey Theatre Friend,As a huge fan of Kelsey Theatre, I know firsthand the jewel that lies in the heart of Mercer County’s cultural community. With your help we have been able to upgrade sound and lighting systems and we are sincerely grateful!

But we still need your support. As we celebrate our Ruby Pink 40th Anniversary, we recognize that our facilities and equipment continue to age. The upgrades we seek will significantly improve the theater experience for all. Ticket revenues – which remain a fraction of the cost at most other performance venues – cover only a small portion of our operation.

We are very proud of the high quality of our productions and want to keep them great. Please support the Best Little Theater in Central New Jersey! Make your donation, large or small, when you complete your subscription order, or visit us at www.kelseytheatre.net.

Here’s to sharing many more glorious nights (and days) of drama, music, and laughter at Kelsey Theatre.

With warmth,

Dr. Patricia C. DonohueMCCC President……………………………………………………………………………………
