The transitioning workplace

Through most of the last century, manufacturing environments were often powered by the workers themselves. But in the labor-intensive environment, even the most well-managed factories suffered from limited production efficiency.

Modern manufacturing technology has resulted in exponential growth of productivity. The same manufacturing process that used to require 10 workers may be performed today by a team of only two workers—a 500% improvement in productivity—with higher precision, fewer product defects, and greater flexibility.

The evolving worker

The technology is extensive: advanced robotics, lasers, CMMs, SCADA systems, and PLCs for example. At Kelly®, we employ subject matter experts who understand the intricacies of these technologies and know where and how to identify the workers who possess the special skills required.

As a result, workers in today’s manufacturing environments require advanced skills and training in order to be effective. The modern day manufacturing employee is as much a technician as anything. In many plants, practically every major process is automated, and these systems require careful calibration, programming, and skilled maintenance in order to perform as designed.

Lean manufacturing environments require maximizing the uptime of critical plant systems, so workers skilled in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices and the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) are essential. These technologies are utilized in a variety of industries, including:

• Metal fabrication and machining

• Food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical processing

• Plastics injection molding and vacuum forming

• Printing

• Textiles

• Vehicle assembly

• Packaging

• Petroleum refining

• And more

Necessary skills

Whether sourcing from competitors in the industry, technical training schools, or the automation suppliers themselves, Kelly is able to find the skilled talent you need to maximize productivity.
