To fulfill the organization’s mission, the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) has contracted with new testing and office manage- ment companies to provide services effective February 1, 2006. “This is a very exciting day for our Board and the future of BONENT,” said R.J. Picciano, BA, CHT, OCDT, BONENT President. After research, interviews and proposals from eight- een companies, the Board is extreme- ly pleased with its decisions.” New BONENT Executive Office in Washington DC Anas Marketing & Management (AMM) of Washington, DC is now providing complete association man- agement services. Peter Anas, President of AMM, will serve as the new BONENT Executive Director. “We are thrilled with AMM’s history of exempla- ry customer service - our members will be happy, says BONENT Vice President Carol Johnson, RNC, MSN, CS, FNP, CPDN, CNN. “They also bring an expertise in association mar- keting, which will improve member communications, having already produced a new web site, Certification Handbook, Contact Hours for Recertification book, member newsletter and informational brochure.” Peter’s experience as Executive Director of healthcare associations includes the American College of Nuclear Physicians, Society for Excellence in Eyecare and the National Association for Disability Representatives. He is also very aware of the nephrology community, as one of his company’s marketing clients is the Renal Physicians Association, for whom they have designed a new web site, pro- duced the “Advanced CKD Patient Management Toolkit” and annual meeting promotional materials. BONENT moved its Executive Office to Washington, DC and has been fully functional since February 1, 2006. New Testing Company To Improve Speed Schroeder Measurement Technologies (SMT) takes over testing services. SMT is a full- service international testing com- pany serving the needs of licensing boards and credentialing agencies. “SMT's testing products and servic- es are the finest available and will help reduce the time for members to receive test scores,” says BONENT Examination Committee Chair Lyle Smith, BSN, CNN,CPDN. The serv- ices to be provided will range from test development, printing and admin- istration of examinations in compli- ance with industry standards. They will be able to provide computer-based delivery of examinations when the organization moves to computerized examinations. The BONENT Board has been planning the necessary steps to take its organization to the next level. “With our two new partnering companies, these decisions will help solidify BONENT as the premier international organization for certification of nephrology professionals,” says Ms. Picciano. Every facility should have its own policiesand procedures. The dialysis staff shouldnot intentionally harm a patient, whether itis physical or emotional pain. They shouldlisten to the patients – it is a sign ofrespect, and not talk over them.

Confidentiality of information aboutpatients and their medical problems shouldnot be told to any individuals outside of thework environment. If one should have theneed to discuss patient’s private informa-tion, they need verbal or written permissionto do so. Patients should be treated by pro-fessionals respectfully, regardless of race orethnicity, sexual preference, and religiousorientation. The dialysis professionals areteachers and should answer questions frompatients but if they do not know an answer,they should refer patients to individualswho can help them. Patients may tell the

Dialysis staff should keep things privatewith personal questions they ask the sick;they should not exchange money withpatients, and should not have any roman-tic relationships with them. Friendlinessand courteousness should always beexemplified towards patients. Even if astaff member has a bad day, they shouldput the problem aside and act friendly.The role of dialysis professionals is torepresent themselves as employees withthe dialysis centers. Patient care shouldbe the top priority of the dialysis staffand by being professional, positivepatient staff relationships can arise.
