EDITORIAL

IS THERE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?This has been the question on the minds of everyone following USACA(USA Cricket Association) and its administration over the years. This isbecause USACA had numerous problems in the past, apparently createdby itself and its administration. USACA is affiliated to ICC like allother countries. ICC, the governing body for cricket in the world was frustrated to the extent that first, it gave ultimatum to USACA to get its actogether or else face the penalty. These ultimatums went to deaf ears and ICC had

no other alternative but to suspend its funding to USACA and debarred USA teamfrom participating in ICCs International Tournament for affiliated countries. Thisdid not bother USACA Administration because it is only the playing populationthat suffered. Cricketers in USA could not participate in recognized InternationaTournaments and they were aging year by year.

It is alleged that election of officers and Board Members conducted by USACA wasrigged resulting in re-elections. It appears that the same old individuals apparentlymanipulated to come to power for yet another term. Status quo prevailed andaffiliates of USACA could not do much but to sit on the sidelines and watch. Theonly change was that a new paid Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position was addedand Don Lockerbie be was hired. He was subsequently removed from his positionand USACA, as of today, has not divulged the reason for terminating his position,nor did they replace anybody in his position.

USACA elections were supposed to have been completed by March/April, 2011.USACA Board by its own action extended their term of office and is scheduling theelections for October, 2011. USACA had its constitution and by-laws revised prior tothe last elections. Now, by their own actions, it appears they are in non-compliance

with constitution and by-laws.

USACA recently signed a deal with several investors and formed Cricket HoldingsAmerica to pump revenues into USACA. It is surprising to note that the same oldindividuals (those currently holding positions and held positions in the past inUSACA, and those tried to come through elections and lost) are part of this LLC. $3million was to be given as a sign-in bonus but it is understood that this may notmaterialize until September/October, 2011 at the earliest. Also, it is contingent upona stake in CHA membership being sold by one of the investors. Some former

officials USACA expressed that this sign-in bonus may never come as, in theiropinion, the membership stake yet to be sold depends upon the results of USACA

elections. This election is scheduled for October 2011.

Nabeel Ahmed, former Vice-President of USACA, apprehends that present trend inUSACAs operations would lead to another suspension by ICC. Based on an articlein cricinfo, Thickett, the treasurer of USACA claims that $1.1 million has come in sofar as part of the deal and that $3.9 million more should come in over the course of2011. Additionally, USACA anticipates receive 31% of any profits generatedthrough hosting matches between Full Members of ICC and selling television right tomatches.

It appears USACA has not yet made any decision on the position of a Coach forUSA teams seniors, Under-19, T-20 etc. No one heard as to whether Robin Singh(India) is offered an assignment to continue as USA coach. USA Under-19 teamplayers were very happy and said that they had learnt a lot within a short timefrom Robin Singh at Florida.

It is not clear whether the revenues projected may come or not. Assuming that thedeal materializes and the revenues are generated, it should be noted here that theserevenues do not come overnight. USACA to be a viable organization should do thefollowing: Infuse new blood in its officers and Board so that one could have new

perspective; Chalk out a 3 or 5 year plan with time lines for the development of cricket in

USA this should include taking the game to the local schools and colleges,holding competitive local tournaments, etc. ;

Hold summer camps in various regions/cities for youth; Increase communication between USACA, Regions, Affiliated Associations and

clubs; Keep a transparent administration (open-door policy); Prepare an annual budget that incorporates time table for activities, cost for

various tournaments, coaching camps, etc. This should also identify the sourcesof income, include fund-raising, etc.

Unless and until drastic changes take place, both operationally andadministratively, there will not be any light at the end of the Tunnel

TRULY SUPER KINGS!By Dr. V.V. Giri

Yes, Chennai Super Kings are truly living up to their name. They won the IPL 4 most convincingly. I would say

they played this tournament in a thoroughly professional way. CSK's overall performance surpassed the

mighty Australians in their peak days!

We must give credit to skipper Dhoni, but I would first give the honors to his lieutenants. CSK is not such a

great side on paper like Mumbai or Bangalore or even Kolkatta. They don't have Gayle, AB, Vettori as in RCNo big guns like Malinga, Pollard, Symonds as in MI, or Kallis, Brett Lee, Shafiq as in KKR.

Chennai team has the reliable Mike Hussey and Bollinger. These two are also not super stars like Gayle or

Malinga. The CSK is banking on some players with great integrity and discipline, namely Raina, Vijay, Ashwinand Badri. In my opinion, these players are more than super stars in terms of timely performance and

consistency. They have done a superb job in this IPL, much better than the Sachins, Pathans, Dhonis, Yuvrajs

and Gambirs.

Raina is a typical example of MVP (Most Valuable Player) for a side. He is there everywhere. In batting, he is a

destroyer and a finisher. In bowling, he is a shocker with a golden arm. In fielding he is a live wire fence wherenothing can go past him.

The final between CSK & RC was a thrasher to the Royals. CSK literally pulverized RC to ashes. Murali Vijayshowed his class in the right time. He was out of form and was struggling to give a good start. This most stylish

batsman in today's cricket played an innings of his life time by cracking a scintillating 95 in 49 balls andproduced an opening stand of 159 runs in 14 overs with Mike Hussey who also batted extremely well for his

60+.

At half way, the match was won only 50 % by the home team, when CSK scored 205 in 20 overs. Against any

other side, 205 is a certain match winning total, but one can never say against RC. I say only 50 % becauseRC had Gayle who can overtake any target with ease which he had done in this IPL 4 time and again.

RC went in to bat and Chepauk was expecting a severe Gayle storm. The enthusiastic full house spectatorswere ready to catch the ball from Gayle's willow. Ashwin was rightly given the new ball. There was calm

before storm. Ashwin completed the first over and it was calm again. The Gayle storm had died down.

In the first over of the match, Ashwin gave a single to the other batsman Agarwal. Gayle faced the second ball,which was his first. It was an arm ball and he was beaten. The second ball two, a straighter one and he was

again beaten. Gayle must have thought Ashwin could not turn the new ball and he played the next ball for a

straighter one. To his astonishment it turned, took the edge and Dhoni completed the catch.

This was a wonderful bowling at a crucial time. Nobody has bowled better than Ashwin in this IPL including

Malinga the highest wicket taker. Chris Gayle had destroyed every bowler this time with an average of over 75and a strike rate of 180 plus. But, it was a real sight to see Gayle struggling to Ashwin in all the three times he

faced him. In my opinion, Ashwin should have been given the MOM for this match and also the MVP of IPL-4.

RAINA TAKES SUPER KINGS TO FINALS!Courtesy GIRICKET

"Raining Sixers from Raina's bat" - Yes, that was witnessed by the lucky spectators in Wankade Stadium

Suresh Raina in spite of severe cramps and slow start, held his nerve and body to take Chennai Super Kings

(CSK) to the IPL-4 finals.

"He is a perfect finisher"- If you ask me, Raina is the Michael Beven of Indian cricket. No other Indian batsman

including Dhoni has finished the matches so often as is done by Raina.

I would attribute this to his matured mind. True, Raina has a few weaknesses (who doesn't have). He is still

vulnerable to short pitch deliveries in quick wickets. But when it comes to IPL (in Indian wickets), he is the

King.

He knows how to approach the target. He starts slowly if the bowling is not troublesome. In case the bowling

attack is hostile, he counter-attacks from the beginning. He plans and targets selected bowlers. He never loftsagainst the spin of the ball. His biggest plus point is, his ability to go under the ball quickly and he is able to

clear the boundary.

Apart from his "finishing ability" in batting, he is a very useful off spin bowler. Here again he uses his brain

well. You would have noticed him during the delivery, he holds the ball for an extra micro second to judge the

batsman's initial movement and then delivers the ball accordingly. Yet, another bowler who is good at this isAshwin. Soon he could become a regular front line bowler.

Nobody can dispute this statement from me that he is the best fielder in India today, if not the best in the world!

On May 24th, at Mumbai, the CSK won the toss and Dhoni, for a change, fielded first. I am always of the

opinion that in T20, captains should opt for fielding first on most occasions. If you bat first, the target to set is

very confusing. Whereas when you bat second, you know the target and bat accordingly with so many wicketsin hand. Also it is easy to handle during rain forecast.

Dhoni has been making mistakes on these basics like team composition, electing to bat or field and pitchreading. In the World Cup he made these mistakes quite often and is seen repeating these in IPL-4 as well

except in this match.

Royal Challengers started in brisk fashion. I really do not know why Dhoni did not open the bowling withAshwin which he does often. Ashwin was brought in the 5th over and he promptly removed the most dangerous

Gayle. Virat Kohli, who is in excellent form, blasted the CSK bowling to score 70 runs in 44 balls.

CSK allowed RC to reach 175 for 4 in 20 overs mainly due to very poor bowling by Bravo, Jakati and Morkel.

When CSK started their batting, they were reduced to 9 for 2 losing both the openers. Ever reliable Badri joined

Raina. These two did a fine recovery job, but the run rate was well behind. Dhoni came and helped Raina toaccelerate. But the arrival of Albie Morkel triggered the CSK and these two scored 53 runs in 16 balls to win

the match. Raina remained unbeaten with 73 runs scored in 50 deliveries.

CSK has severe problems in their bowling. Only Bollinger and Ashwin command respect. All other bowlers can

let the side down at any time. But CSK has no choice. Their back-up players are literally no good.

In all 15 matches were played during this weekend. The results of the same are given below:

HELPS VIJAYTA BEAT PASADENA-1 BY 267 RUNS.

In a one-sided game, Vijayta beat Pasadena-1 by 267 runs, the biggest margin so far inthe league this year. Vijayta won the toss and elected to bat first. Vijayta lost two quick

wickets and then came the partnership between in-form Ravi Timbawala and their

Captain Mehul Dave. Both these batsmen showed no mercy on the weak bowling attackof Pasadena-1. Ravi Timbawala scored his second century of the season when he made

134 runs. The century was there for Mehul Dave to take but he got out for a wel

played 89 runs. After his exist, Timil Patel joined Ravi and Timil scored an unbeaten58. Dineth Ketagoda scored 26 runs and Vijayta scored 365 runs for the loss of 5

wickets in the allotted 45 overs, the highest total so far in the league. Pasadena-1

conceded 45 extras (wides 40). Vishal Lakhina 3 for 63, and Ali Khan 2 for 78 were the successful bowlers forPasadena-1.

In reply, Pasadena-! was all out for 109 runs. Aznar Qureshi 32 and Noorali Lakhani 25 were the only batsmen

who put up some resistance. Hammad Shahid 3 for23 and Timil Patel 4 for 20 in 6 overs 2 mainden, were thesuccessful bowlers for Vijayta.

At the end of the day, this is what Vijayta said:

Vijayta won the toss and elected to bat. After losing 2 early wickets (20 for 2), Ravi Timbawala and Mehul Dave

laid the foundation for a huge total. Vishal Lakhina bowled a great spell. He enticed Timbawala to edge a ball

only to see the wicket keeper bobble it. After that it was lights out for Pasadena.

It was a treat to watch Timba, score (134) his second hundred in 4 games and Dave (89) put on a clinical showin batting for their partnership that lasted for 161 runs. Timil joined Timbawala and carved a patient bu

unbeaten 58. Vijayta amassed a season high 376 runs for the fall of 5 wickets. Timba's 134 included 18 four's.

Pasadena had a huge task but crumbled to the pace of Hammad (3 Wkts) and to the spin of Timil ( 4 Wkts).

Skipper Noorali and Qureshi put up a valiant fight but wasn't enough as the asking rate was too high.

Orange County finally won a game this season when they beat Caribbean. Caribbean won the toss but puOrange County to bat first. Orange County scored 226 for the loss of 9 wickets. Nagaraj Inamati 33, Devraj

Patel 23, Abhi Vyas 39, Ajit Sonawana 33 and Hardeep Singh 37 not out batted well for OCCC. Caribbean

conceded 42 extras (wides 20). Marcus Stewart 4 for 31, TGrevon Osbourne 3 for43 and Mohammad Asad 2 for 36 bowled well for Caribbean.

In reply, Caribbean was all out for 160. Kaneshka Chaugai 67 and Muhammed Ali

27 batted well for Caribbean. Nagaraj Inamati bowled extremely well to capture hisfirst 5 for 39 of the season. He was ably assisted in the bowling department by

Easwaran Venkatachalam 3 for 40 and Chirayu Sapre 2 for 13. It appears that

Caribbean team relies too much on the batting of Marcus Stewart and when he failsthe team collapses.

OCC toils hard to earn its first victory

On a chilly morning, Caribbean won the toss and put OCC to bat. OCC started disastrously, losing quick

wickets to the Caribbean pace attack. Before the first break, OCC was reduced to 74 for 5. Abhik and Ajitconsolidated the OCC innings and formed a crucial partnership down the order. Abhik played an important

innings of 39. No. 10 and 11, Hardeep and Chirayu, batted brilliantly for a 50+ last wicket stand to bring the

total to 226, and proved OCC's depth in batting.

Caribbean innings started with a brilliant catch of Rodney Cutting by OCC youngster Sumanth Bobba

However, the middle order consolidated for Caribbean, with the dangerous Kaneska Chaugai making 67 runs

His innings were helped by catch drops and mis-fields. Kanishka and Marcus seemed to be taking the game

away from OCC, till the bowling pair of Eashwar and Naga came together to put some important blows in the

middle order. Naga cleaned up the Caribbean innings and ended up with a 5 wickets haul.

Overall, the game of cricket triumphed, with both teams playing the game in good spirits. Best of luck toCaribbean for the next games.

COSMOS BEAT PEGASUS

IN A THRILLING FINISH!Cosmos who have won all the four games played so far this season started as favorites in this match. At the

end this was anybodys game and the decision in the 5th

ball of the last over. The bowling of Pegasus on this

day, proved too much for Cosmos batsmen as they were 72 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at one stage.Cosmos, on paper, has batting strength till the end. Then some rearguard action from the middle and lower

order batsmen helped them to reach a respectable total of 183 runs - thanks to some fine batting by Randeep

Singh 55 and M.U. Shani Rehman 26. Pegasus conceded 34 extras (wides 28). Mustajab Khan 3 for 17, SirajuAhmed 2 for 11, Shayan Abdulghani 2 for 21 and Elmore Hutchinson 2 for 44 bowled well for Pegasus to

restrict Cosmos to 183.

In reply, Pegasus was all out for 182. The game became very exciting when M.U. Shani Rehman came to bowlthe last over. 4 balls of the last over were bowled and Pegasus needed 1 run for a draw and 2 runs for a win

The last batsman was out lbw to Shani Rehman. Pegaus finished just two runs short. One of the exciting

matches played so far this season. Youngster Salman Ahmed 54 and Siraju Ahmed 66 batted well for PegausCosmos conceded 31 extras (wides 22). M.U. Shani Rehman 3 for 43, Jafar Naqvi 2 for 18 and Abhimanyu

Rajp 2 for 29 bowled well for Cosmos. This was a close call for Cosmos. It is high time they get out of their

complacency if they want to go for the championship!

International won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a good foundation through their opening pair o

Imran Habib and Zafar Siddiqui. The opening pair scored 55 runs. Imran Habib scored 34, Juanid Khan(24)

and Muhammed Asif Munir(39) batted well for International to help them record 190 runs for the loss of 7wickets in the allotted overs. Victoria conceded 30 extras (wides 22). Sathish Rajendran 2 for 35, Praveen

Kumar Devaraju 2 for 33, and Rajan Narayanan 2 for 38 bowled well for Victoria.

In reply, Victoria was all out for 139 runs. Sridharan Sundaram 33, and Sabarish Sudhakaran 44 batted well for

Victoria. International conceded 29 extras (wides 26). Mohammed Imran 2 for 32, Adnam Shoaid 2 for 7 in 4

overs and Rashid Zia 2 for 9 in 5.2 overs bowled well for International.

UNIVERSITY BEAT L.A. BENGAL

University won the toss and batted first. They were all out for 189 runs. Thanks to the contribution ofSantosh Jois 24, Noel Jiwanmall 36 not out and Aman Singh 20. L.A.Bengal conceded 36 extras (wides 32)

Malhar Ghotikar 3 for 38 and Imran Khan 2 for 16 bowled well for L.A. Bengals. In reply, L.A. Bengal wasall out for 185 runs and thus lost the game by 5 runs. Rashid Tanvir Chowdhury 49 and Ahmed Hossain 69

batted well for L.A. Bengal to make it a very close game. University conceded 38 extras (wides 28). Manoj

Arora 2 for 23, Anant Kulkarni 2 for 31 and Aman Singh 2 for 29 bowled well for University.

REGAL BEAT KABIR

Regal won the toss but put Kabir to bat first. Kabir was skittled out for 59 runs. Mayank Patel was the onlybatsman who scored 33 runs for Kabir. There were six batsmen who did not score any runs. No one other than

Mayank reached the double digit figure in battings. Regal conceded 16 extras (wides 12). But for this

contribution Kabirs score would have been much lower. Mayur Bonsode 4 for 16, Pratik Solank 3 for 13 andAbhishek Vasudevan 2 for 9 bowled well for Kabir to restrict Kabir to 59 runs.

In reply, Regal scored 60 for the loss of 4 wickets. Extras with 17(wides 12) was the highest scorer for RegalNayan Ahir 3 for 12 bowled well for the losers.

At the end of the day, this is what Regal said:

On a beautiful day in Highland, Regals won the toss and elected to field. The bowlers came out right and blewKabir CC out of the water. Mayur showed again that he's not a ''one hit wonder'' by picking up 4 wickets. While

wickets were falling fast, Mayank some what manged some runs. Mayur, Devraj,and Pratik managed to choke

the run rate. When they were done bowling Abhishek came in with some pace and managed to pick up 2

wickets. Well played Mayank for the scrappy 33 off 64.

Saad and Pravin opened the innings and put up 30 odd for the first wicket. It was great to see both openers

respect good balls and dispatch the bad ones and dropped catches were a great help. Pravin got caught behind

right when he was looking dangerous.Nayan and Nikesh Ahir came out with some great swing bowling and

managed to put a small dent by picking up a few wickets before Aftab and Abhi brought it home for Regals.

Regals showed unity and support for each other along with sportsmanship.

DOLPHINS LOST TO REDLANDS

Dolphins won the toss but sent in Redland to bat first. This strategy did not work in their favor. They lost the

game to Redlands by a mere 17 runs. Batting first Redlands was all out for 189 runs. Saurabh Gupta 62

Shankar Chandfrasekhar 51 and Roshan Herbert 20 batted well for Redlands. Dolphins conceded 22 extras(wides 14). Junaya Banday 4 for 29, and Sunil Ramineni 2 for 18 bowled well for Dolphins. In freply

Dolphins was all out for 172 runs. They fell short of the target by 17 runs. Richard Evans 56, and Priyank

Mundfra 31 not out batted well for Dolphins. Redlands conceded 41 extras (wides 26). Nimesh Jarecha 2 for

13, Ankur Nepalia 2 for 34 and Sarthak Datt 2 for 39 bowled well for Redlands to restrict the opponents to 172.

At the end of the game this is what Redlands said:

Redlands was put into bat on a cold windy overcast morning by Dolphins, Redlands batsman started o

cautiously before Saurabh and Shankar shared a great partnership that set the platform to post a decent score

which was well defended by some good bowling overall. Redlands bowlers chipped in with wickets and the

fielders held out some crucial catches to put Dolphins batsman under pressure. Richard and Priyank played

good knocks for Dolphins and Junaid bowled well. It was a good team effort from Redlands to post their first

win of the season.

Dolphins were a very warm and hospitable host and the food was great. Good Luck Dolphins for rest of the

season.

COLTS LOST TO HOLLYWOOD-2

Hollywood Cricket Club-2 won the toss but sent Colts to bat first. Colts batted well to put a respectable total of

206 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Thanks to the useful contribution of Lokesh Dhar 22, Vijay Trisal 23

Charan Adluri 37, Atul Raj 26 and Karthik Varatharajulu 25 not out. HCC-2w conceded 24 extras (wides 21)Kaushik Bhakta 2 for 51 and Viraj Sehgal 2 or 29 were the successful bowlers for HCC-2. In reply, HCC-2

scored 208 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Veteran Suresh Narsai 20, Vitesh Bhaktga 57 and Pranav Sinha 40

not out batted well for HCC-2. Colts conceded 37 extras (wides 24). Karthik Varatharajulu 2 for 22 and Vijay

Trisal 2 for 37 bowled well for Colts.

These two teams were evenly matched. The only difference appears to be in bowling where Colts conceded 37

extras as against HCC-2s 24. At the end, Hollywood-2 won a close fought game!

ALL-ROUND DISPLAY BY GUNVANT AND YASH

INLAND EMPIRE-1 BEAT CENTURY CC

Century won the toss, batted first and was all out for 158 runs. All-round display by Gunvant Patel (3 for 30

and scored 45 runs) Yash Doshi (4 for 24) and scored 24 runs) helped IE-1 to beat Century CC by 4 wickets.Harry Srinivas 27, Maduka DeSilva 47 and Raj Singh 29 batted well for Century CC. IE-1 conceded 29 extras

(wides 18). Yash Doshi 4 for 24 and Gunvant Patel 3 for 30 bowled well for IE-1 to restrict the opponents to a

total of 158 runs.

USC won the toss, batted first and was all out for 170 runs. Tarun Tyagi who has been in good form this year

scored 37 runs. Youngster Gurpreet Singh Sandhu 45 and Ashish Relan 36 batted well for USC. Westwoodconceded 24 extras (wides 17). Raj Saha 3 for 21 and Saurabh Alurkar 3 for 28 bowled well for Westwood. In

reply, Westwood was able to score only 158 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted overs and thus lost the

game by 12 runs. USC conceded 22 extras (wides 12). Prasanna Hariharan 55 and Faisal Qadir 50 batted welfor Westwood. Jeet Poonater 2 or 14 was the only successful bowler for USC.

SANTA BARBARA BEAT HOLLYWOOD-3

Santa Barbara won the toss but sent in Hollywood-3 to bat first. HCC-3 scored a respectable total of 184 for

the loss of 8 wickets. Roshan R. Bhagat 45 and Bharat Prasad 41 batted well for HCC-3. Santa Barbara

PASADENA-2 BEAT INLAND EMPIRE-2In a low scoring game, bowlers dominated the proceedings. Inland Empire-2 won the toss and put Pasadena-2to bat first. Pasadena-2 was all out for 99 runs. Janak Patel 4 for 16 in 6.3 overs land Ritesh Patel 2 for 24

were the most successful bowlers for IE-2. IE-2 tried five bowlers and all of them got wickets. IE-2 conceded

DEADLY BOWLING BY PRASANNA SURA

Prasanna Sura of Pacifica bowled extremely well to his first 5 for 15 in 8 overs of which 3 were maiden overs

He was ably supported in this effort by Sriman Kesapragada 3 for 26. HCC-5 won the toss but sent in Pacificato bat first. This strategy of HCC-5 backfired. First five batsmen of Pacifica batted well to amass a match-

winning total of 341 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted overs. Pacificas opening pair (Chaitanyan

Suriyanarayana and Gagan Mekala) scored 106 runs and gave a good start. This made it easy for others to

follow. Gagan Mekala 29, Chaitanyan Suriyanarayanan 55, Prasanna Sura 30, Preetham Palle 87 and PawanJanakiram 75 batted well for Pacifica. 52 extras (wides 36) were conceded by HCC-5. Nine bowlers were tried

by HCC-5 and Anil Sagar with his 1 for 29 had the best bowling figures for HCC-5. In reply, HCC-5 was al

out for 148 runs. Gautam Arora 21 and Sourojit Dhar 30 batted well for HCC-5. Pacifica conceded 55 extras(wides 42). Prasanna Sura 5 for 15 and Sriman Kesapragada 3 for 26 were the most successful bowlers for

Pacifica.

Clinical peformance by Pacificia in all departments. HCC5 was truly outplayed in every department. The game

was played in good spirits. Pacifica is a good team with great sportman spirit.

The only positive thing which came for HCC5 was the ruthless and brutal hitting by Sourajit. He hit 3 huge

sixes which cleared the ground easily and was out only due to suffering cramps

PEGASUS BEAT ORANGE COUNTY CC

Orange County CC won the toss but sent in Pegasus to bat first. Pegasus scored 174 for the loss of 9 wickets in

the allotted overs. Thanks to Zeeshan Khamisanis 64 runs. The next highest scorer for Pegasus was extras 23

(wides 9). Nagaraj Inamati 3 for 32 and Abhik Vyas 3 for 41 were the most successful bowlers for OCCC. In

reply, OCCC was all out for 111 runs. Devraj Patel 28 and Ajit Sonawane 22 not out batted well for OCCCExtras 25 (wides 14). Salman Ahmed 2 for 26, Elmore Hutchinson 3 for 25 and Mustajab (Mushi) Khan 4 for

28 bowled well for Pegasus to restrict OCCCs score to 111.

At the end of the day, this is what Pegasus said:

On a cool Saturday morning, Pegasus CC and Orange County CC came to battle on the Wright cricket field

Upon arrival, the teams noticed that the Pitch Roller was standing in the middle of the ground. Further

research revealed that SCCA had purchased a used Pitch Roller which had stopped working the evening before.

After numerous efforts to push the tank out of the ground, SCCA management had to bite the bullet, spend some

money and call in a tow truck.

After an hour and a half delay, OCCC after winning the toss, elected to bowl on an unrolled, soft and spongy

wicket. Hoping to take advantage of the pitch conditions OCCC successfully tried to put the Pegasus toporder under pressure. With the going tough, Pegasus top order managed to fight and struggle. Zeeshan

contributed with a fighting fifty (64 runs) and was provided support by Nazim (17 runs) and Arman (14 runs).

Towards the end, a valuable knock by Shayan (19 runs) supported by Mushy Khan and Ibrahim Murad enabled

Pegasus CC to reach a fighting 174 in 45 overs.

Knowing that the wicket was not easy to bat on, Pegasus bowlers had to be accurate and fielders had to be

alert. They were able to take regular wickets and kept OCCC under tremendous pressure. Elmore was at his

destructive best (3 wickets) while Mushy Khan spun a web of wizardry (4 wickets). Salman (2 wickets) and

Shayan (1 wicket) provided the additional support. It is important to mention the brilliant catches taken by

Elmore and Shahid in support of the bowling. The only resistance was shown by Devraj (28 runs), Abhik (14

runs) and Ajit (22 runs). OCCC were bowled out for 111 in 28 overs.

With this win, Pegasus will need to continue playing hard against the formidable Vijayta. Good luck to Orange

MOHAMMAD ASADS 5 FOR 46

HELPSCARIBBEAN BEAT COSMOS

Cosmos won the toss and elected to bat first. Cosmos struggled against some good bowling by Caribbean and

at one stage Cosmos was 85 for the loss of 5 wickets. But, then Inder Bir Singh resisted Caribbean attack and

helped his team put up a respectable total of 163 runs. Even though on paper, Cosmos has enough battingstrength, they struggled either because of over-confidence and/or complacency. Batsmen failed to show their

maturity in judgment in a crisis situation. Inder Bir Singh should have shielded the tail-enders (Last two

batsmen), taken singles and kept the strike to himself till the end. He did not do so and exposed the last twobatsmen to more than what they are capable of. Had Cosmos played the remainder of the allotted overs they

could have posted a total of 200 plus on the board. Inder Bir Singh remained unbeaten with 37 runs to his

credit. Mohammad Asad bowled well for his 5 for 46 and Marcus Stewart 2 for 39 bowled well for Caribbean.

In reply, Caribbean scored 167 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Thanks to some fine batting by Marcus Stewart 65

not out and Muhammad Ali 48 not out. Earlier Kaneshka Chaugai scored a valuable 23 runs. Abhemanyu Rajp

2 for 31 was the only successful bowler for Cosmos. This game should serve as a wake up call for CosmosThey have to put this game in the back burner and should start concentrating on winning games if they want to

become champions this year.

Good Game by Caribbean to end Cosmos' Winning Streak. Very Accurate bowling by the Caribbean Bowlers

who didn't give much to Cosmos batsmen and fell to a small total of 167, to some good bowling, fielding andpoor shots by Cosmos. Asad bowled well to get his 5 and was supported by all other bowlers.

Cosmos fought hard to get wickets, fielding did not help the efforts but still had Caribbean 4 down for 70 odd

runs before Marcus took the game away. Chanceless 65 by Marcus with 7 towering sixes on Marder was a treat

for the spectators.

Good Luck to Caribbean for the rest of the season. Cosmos has a bit of homework to do and is next up against

CSUF on June 4th.

L.A.BENGALS BEAT DECCAN BY ONE RUN!VIVEK SHARMAS 5 FOR 30 IN VAIN

In an exciting finish, L.A. Bengals beat Deccan by a solitary run. LA Bengals won the toss and elected to bat

first. Excellent bowling by Vivek Sharma (5 for 30) helped Deccan to restrict LA Bengals to a moderate totalof 149. Thanks to some fine batting by Malhar Ghotikar 55 not out, Mohd. Saiful Islam 20, Nadeem Ahmed 22

CAL-BEL SKITTLED OUT FOR 31 RUNS

ANAHEIM BOWLERS DOMINATE

In a one-sided game, Anaheim won the toss and elected to bat. Anaheim was all out for a decent total of 167

runs. Aman Ullah 27, and Gayan Pelawatta 21 batted well for Anaheim but the highest scorer was extras 39

(wides 31). Francis Sutherland 3 for 25 and Jason Broaster 2 for 30 bowled well for Cal-Bel. Cal-Bel does nohave consistency. They appear to be a hot and cold team. In some matches they do extremely and in some

matches their performance raises question about their place in that league.

In reply to Anaheims total of 167, Cal-Bel failed miserably. Anaheim used 4 bowlers and all of themperformed extremely well to skittle out Cal-Bel for 31 runs. Of this total 10 were extras (wides 8). But for this

generous contribution from Anaheim, Cal-Bel would have been all out for 21 runs. Aman Ullah 2 for 13, Deva

Patel 3 for 10, Vishal Thakur 3 for 7 and Cinesh Fernando 2 for 0 bowled well for Anaheim.

SANTA BARBARA BEAT BRIT.DOM

In reply, Santa Barbara had some anxious moments in their chase having lost some early wickets. The

scoreboard at one stage read 51 for 6. But then, Amin Murad batted extremely well to his team pass through the

someone other than the Youth played in this game and do not want to divulge the name as he may be older andbe member of another club in the League. SCCA should look into this aspect.

UNBEATEN CENTURY BY JUNAYD BANDAY

REGAL BEAT DOLPHINS

In a well fought game, Regal beat Dolphins by one wicket. The highlight of the game was the unbeaten centuryby Junayd Banday (102 not out) for Dolphins. Unfortunately, this century could not save the game for his team

Batting first Dolphins scored 194 for the loss of 9 wickets. Junayd Banday 102 not out and Priyank Mundra 29

batted well for Dolphins. Extras 35 (wides 32). Devraj Yadav 3 for 24 and Kanwar Sonu Singh 3 for 37

bowled well for Regal.

In reply, Regal scored 197 for the loss of 9 wickets. Purvesh Kothari 35, Kadar Arafath 64, and Jay Chaudhury

35 not out batted well for Regal. Extras 37 (wides 32). Francis Flowers 2 for 36 was the only successfubowler for Dolphins.

On a beautiful day in the lovely Long Beach area, Dolphins won the toss and elected to bat. As usual Devraj

and Mayur were on song with great bowling. Mayur came with the first break through of Madhu with a fast one

knocking back the middle stump. Devi got Greg to chase one and Saad played hot potato all the way to Jay in

gully. Devraj got Brandon and soon after followed a great partnership with Priyank and Junayd. They steadilywere taking the game away,but soon after Devraj got Pryiank with healthy edge to gully. Then came Francis

but could no damage as Kanwar made his made stump cartwheel. Davis soon followed suit with Francis. Then

came the delivery of the match from Sunil, who pitched the ball outside the leg and bowled shailesh around the

legs. Regals looked like they had it under control, however Junayd had other plans. He made a meal of

everything that came his way. Hitting clean monster shots losing 2 balls in the process. Well played Junayd for

your knock it was a great one! So after all the carnage the Dolphins had 194 on the board, which on most days

is winning total.

Chasing 195 was never going to be a easy task, and losing Saad early did not help. The next 10 overs Purvesh

and Kader guided Regals to 47 with one on the board. After eating fresh (subway was the lunch) Kader and

Purvesh continued where they had left off at. It was composed partnership with taking clever singles anddobules while bad balls were dispatched with grace and ease. After putting up 97 run, Purvesh who was looking

good for a 50+ ran himself out. He played well for his 35. Kader kept his cool head and guided the team to a

strong position. Aftab had a short stay at the crease and the tide turned for the Dolphins. Jay joined Kader and

showed clear of what his intentions were. Kader and Jay batted for about 15 runs before Kader,due to fatigue

was bowled on a wild heave. Kader innings set the match for Regals, had the gaint trees not fielded so well he

would been in the 70+ area. Abhi came but could not do much damage as he hit one in the air and got caught

on leg side. Manas was cleaned up quickly and the Dolphins were jumping like flipper. Jay continued to tick the

board with singles and doubles, while watching the other end fall apart. Mayur came in and went with a

brilliant catch on short mid on. In came Sunil and out when Sunil with Priayank getting into rhythm. Devraj

came in and Regals needed 18 to win. He stayed for a brief moment, but soon departed. In came Kanwar aka

sonu and played out the over. Now the last over, Regal needing 6 to win. Jay took a single and brought Sonu

back on. Sonu hit a sitter to cover fielder who gracefully did not accept it in the process Jay and Sonu ran 2.

This was the last over by the way, so it was 3 needed to win off 4 balls. Both teams tensed Junayd stormed in tobowl to Sonu a pitched up delievery....gasssssp.... and Sonu sent it back passed him twice as fast as it came for a

4!!! game over.Both teams played with great spirits and sportsmanship. Good luck Dolphins for the rest of the season!

UNBEATEN CENTURY BY RAVI TIMBAWALA

VIJAYTA BEAT CSUF

Ravi Timbawala is in great form this season having scored three centuries in five games, so far. His Score hasbeen 106 not out; 16, 63 not out; 134 and 119 not out. He has helped Vijayta to be on top of the points tablethis season. Vijayta has won all the games they have played so far.

Vijayta won the toss and batted first. Vijayta scored 281 for the loss of 3 wickets. Their opener Tarun BhoomReddy was dropped earlier and he went on to score 58 runs. Timil Patel, Vijaytas leg spinner is also in good

form with the bat. Both Ravi Timbawala (119 not out) and Timil Patel (52 not out) carried the team to a match-

winning total of 283 for the loss of 3 wickets. CSUF conceded 39 extras (wides 33). Ravi Singh 2 for 43 wasthe only successful bowler for CSUF. In reply, CSUF was all out for 132 runs. Rohit Yadav 37, and Rish

Desai 23 not out were the only scorers for CSUF. Extras 15 (wides 14). Hammad Shahid 2 for 19, Pukar Patel

2 for 16 and Timil Patel 2 for 38 were the successful bowlers for Vijayta.

Ravi Timbawala does it again - Man of the Match and scoring his second hundred in as many games.

Vijayta won the toss and chose to bat against last year's 2nd division Champs - CSUF. Sledging was at it's best

and amidst all the sledging, Tarun was dropped on the very first ball of the day and that proved dearly, as he

pummeled 57 ( 6 fours and 1 six) off of 60 deliveries.

Skipper Dave went very quietly to a beauty from Ravi Singh. Ravi Singh bowled superbly to take 2 of the 3

Vijayta's wickets.

Tarun and Timba took the score to 124 before Tarun fell to a very good catch at deep covers by Rishi Desai

Timil joined Timba after Amit Sood went cheaply and notched his second fifty (52 in 54 balls) in as many games

and they both took the score to 281 on a very difficult batting track. Timba was unbeaten on 119 with 15 fours

off 134 balls. Yet another master piece by Timba. In his 5 innings thus far he has been unbeaten 3 times and

scored 3 centuries in the process to lead division-I in runs scored.

One thing is for sure CSUF is here to stay in Division-I. Despite the only dropped catch, they fielded and

bowled with passion. A very well disciplined side led by Skipper Adheesh Bhate.

HCC-1 won the toss and elected to bat first. HCC-1 was all out for 264 runs. Anantharam Kota 70, Nikhil Iyer

75 and Ankhit Parmar 27 batted well for HCC-1. San Diego conceded 30 extras (wides 23). Benson Thomas 2

for 31, Pradeep Chella 2 for 60, Wayne Copeland 2 for 43, Bansidhar Gopalachari 2 for 35 bowled well for SanDiego-1.

In reply, San Diego-1 started off well with their opening pair (Joseph Guiste 63 and Hariharan Sukumar 22)putting on 53 runs for the first wicket. Then there was a collape and SD-1 lost three quick wickets. Wayne

Copeland 33 and Benson Thomas 21 brought some respectability to the total but that was not enough to save the

OConnor 48, Brendan Nugent 22, Farhan Taher 39 and Theo Mavro 113 not out

played well for Corinthians. SD-2 conceded 29 extras (wides 25). Young SurajPatel was the only successful bowler with 2 for 42.

In reply, SD-2 scored 219 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted overs. SD-2

started their chase well by putting on 101 runs for the first wicket (Jitendra andBadri). Jitendra Barlinge 44 and Badri Manjunath 62 battedd very well for SD-2. There was not much of a

support from other batsmen to enable them to win. Corinthians conceded 19 extras (wides 17). Richard

Blackledge 3 for 33 and Andrew Price 2 for 45 bowled well for Corinthians.

At the end of the game, this is what Corinthians said:

It was a gray, overcast morning and the wicket looked very green and under-prepared - looks can be deceiving

San Diego called right at the coin toss and sent Corinthians in to bat. The Corinthian openers DaveO and

Brendan got the innings off to a great start, running well and playing some good shots to keep the scoring rate

ticking along at close to 5 per over. Brendan went to a top edge off Suraj in the 13th over. This brought Theo

Mavro to the crease. The run rate increased. Theo took command of the San Diego bowling, defending whenneeded and putting away anything that was slightly full or short or wide. DaveO went for a well worked 48 in

the 25th over. Pramukh hit a couple of nice boundaries before falling to Vishal. Farhan seized his promotion to

number 5 and he and Theo batted 12 overs scoring 99 runs to put Corinthians in a commanding position. Faran

fell to Shayan for 39 but Theo continued to pile on the runs with support from Abbas and then Dave Pieters. San

Diego's two young spin bowlers Shayan and Suraj bowled well taking 3 of the 5 wickets to fall. As the innings

came to a close Corinthians had made 277 runs thanks to a superb knock of 113 not out by Theo with great

support from DaveO and Farhan.

Richard and Dave Pieters opened the bowling and it was soon obvious that the fielding team was going to have

to work hard for their points. After 10 overs the pair had restricted the San Diego openers to just 35 runs but no

wickets were down. It wasn't until Andy Price and Abbas were introduced to the attack that Corinthians pickedup their first wicket thanks to a well taken caught and bowled by Andy. Abbas quickly picked up a second wicket

which brought San Diego's skipper Vishal to the crease. Vishal is a very good player of spin so Richard brought

himself and Theo into the attack. It wasn't the pace of the bowling that got the San Diego skipper but a superb

catch from Andy Price after Vishal had smoked one to cover but failed to keep it on the ground. After that

wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. The Corinthians fielding has been top class this year and

continued to be so with very few fielding errors and no dropped catches. Richard ended up with 3 wickets, Andy

2 and DaveP, Abbas and Theo one wicket apiece.

Another good team effort by Corinthians but definitely Theo's 113 not out was the standout performance. Good

luck to San Diego II. With a great mix of youth and experience in their side ASD-2 is always competitive.

CENTURY BY ASIF ABBAS ALI

FRIENDS BEAT USCFriends CC, after a long layoff, came back strongly to amass a match-winning total of 342 runs. Thanks to a

fine century by Asif Abbas Ali (108 runs) who was ably supported by Abdulghani Ahmed (52 runs), Fahmeed

Khan (50 runs) and Burhan Khan (56 runs). USC conceded 48 extras (wides 36). Tarun Sandhu 3 for 55Ashish Relan 2 for 53 and Sunil Ghatpande 2 for 18 bowled well for USC. In reply, USC was all out for 162

USC played with 10 players. Friends conceded 27 extras (wides 15). Asif Idrees 4 for 31, Ali Qazi 2 for 46

and Hassam Khan 2 for 24 bowled well for Friends to restrict USC to 162.

At the end of the game, this is what Friends CC said:

A very nice return by FCC after a month long break. After winning the toss FCC took a brave decision to batfirst on an unpredictable Carson pitch. Their gamble paid huge dividends as they posted their highest ever tota

of 343 to win. Asif Abba Ali started first with some fireworks to entertain the crowd with 4s and 6s in all

corners of the ground, a total of 18 boundaries in all with 10 of them fetching the maximum. This ensured that

FCC got to their 1st hundred within the just 11 overs. He was well supported by Shahid (Abdul Ghani) who

played a cool innings of 52. With the captain Fahmeed and the debutant wicket keeper all-rounder Burhan

scoring 50s as well FCC put up a very nice total. There were two century partnerships; Abba Ali/Shahid and

Fahmeed/Burhan, both full of entertainment.

The bowlers then did a nice job of containing the opposition and bowling them all out for 162, a little under half

the required score. Although USC were playing one player short, that didn't stop them from putting up a good

fight. But FCC bowlers had the best of them with Asif Idrees claiming 4 victims early on to put USC under greatpressure. Hassam announced his come back into form claiming 2 wickets with an economy of just under 4. Al

in all it was a good team effort by FCC, let's hope they can keep up the momentum in the upcoming matches

and entertain us just as much!

Tough day for USC but better luck next time

ALL-ROUND DISPLAY BY SATISH BALU

HOLLYWOOD-4 BEAT EAGLES

All-round display by Satish Balu of HCC-4 who scored a well played 61 not out and took 4 wickets conceding

only 45 runs helped his team beat Eagles. Eagles batted first and scored 146 runs. Paul Alexander with his 54runs was the only batsman that played a sensibly. HCC-4 conceded 27 extras (wides 20). Pronit Dutta 2 for

22 and Satish Balu 4 or 45 bowled well for HCC-4 to restrict Eagles to 146 runs. In reply, HCC lost earlywickets. Then Satish Balu 61 not out and Sowrirajan Sampath 32 not out steadied the innings and helped their

team to beat Eagles without any further loss. Eagles conceded 23 extras (wides 16). Copeland Andrew 2 for 23

was the only successful bowler for Eagles.

A better fielding effort and great partnership during batting, between Satish and Sowri sealed the match for

Hollywood IV. Earlier Satish starred in the bowling too, taking 4 wickets.

HCC4 won the toss and put Eagles into bat on a chilly morning. Sahaj struck early and another 2 quick wickets

to run-out put early brakes on Eagles. However Paul played a captain's innings and together with St Clair

provided some respectability to the score. HCC4 also unearthed a new wicket-keeper.

Batting second, HCC4 kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 55/6 by the 15th over

However Satish in sublime form and Sowri batting lower due to a tiring fielding session, had a great 7th wicket

partnership to bring the match home.

KABIR LOST TO REDLANDS

Kabir won the toss and batted first. They had a good start with their opening pair Nikesh Ahir 26 and Jiten

Bhakta 35 putting on 61 runs for the first wicket. Thereafter, there was a collapse and Kabir ended up with 159

for the loss of 8 wickets. Redlands conceded 37 extras (wides32). Rama Chintgapalli 2 for 15 and MajunuSeran 2 for 16 were the successful bowlers.

In reply, Redlands scored 163 for the loss of 3 wickets. They started their chase by losing two quick wickets

but then Majunu Seran 45 not out, Shankar Chandrasekhar 36 and Roshan Herbert 40 not out saw them throughthe end to win the game by 7 wickets. Kabir conceded 26 extras (wides 24).

At the end of the day, this is what Redland said:

Kabir won the toss and elected to bat they had a good opening stand between Nikesh and Jiten but after the first

drinks break Redlands used the twin spin plan where both their spinners Raj and Majunu bowled an excellent

spell of spin bowling and got some crucial wickets they did not allow any easy runs and piled a lot of pressure

on Kabir middle order batsman this led to batsman throwing away their wickets, Rama bowled eight overs of

some good pace bowling and picked two crucial wickets before Redlands fast bowlers Nimesh and Ankur

finished the end overs efficiently. Redlands fielders were effective in holding out catches and picking two run

outs at important phases of the game.

Set 160 to win Redlands lost both their opening batsman early but that brought in the Redlands wall MajunuSeran who played a great knock of 45 runs and was well supported by Shankar together they knocked out the

runs with a well thought out plan. Roshan came out with all guns blazing to finish the run chase in style.This

was a good win for Redlands their second in a row.

HOLLYWOOD-5 LOST TO CASUALS

HCC-5 won the toss and batted first. They were all out for 126 runs. Faraz Haider 34 was the only batsmanwho scored for HCC-5. Casuals conceded 29 extras (wides 19). Adhir Kalyan 3 for 30 and Phillip Traynor 3

for 26 were the successful bowlers for Casuals.

Casuals started their chase well and their opening pair of Anil Tulpule 39 not out and Mohammed Faisal 44 put

on 91 runs for the first wicket partnership and made things easy for their team. Casuals scored 127 for the lossof 4 wickets and thus won the game by 6 wickets. Sahil Patel with his 3 for 30 was the only successful bowler

for HCC-5. HCC-5 conceded 16 extras (wides 10).

Behind the twenty-first century mosques of Sharjah became the new

reality. Oil wealth could not be missed from the air-conditioned busstops to the new water-taxis that plied the river shorelines in close

proximity to the gold suk. The scale of development in Dubai, one ofthe seven United Emirates, makes Texas big look small. The new has

not severed the cultural roots as the HGOCC found on their four-

wheeler race across desert dunes stopping to mount camels a lollopingchange of pace. Hold on back and front or risk falling off head-over

heals as the desert king launches forward then up on its double joints.

Aching joints were a consideration as the third HGOCC games

scheduled under the floodlights of the thirty year old Sharjah Stadium,any flexibility was highly prized. Strengthened by our Pakistan

contingent, the HGOCC scored 99. In reply, tight fielding kept the

Emirates Veterans in check until the last over when their superior

experience and skill asserted itself resulting in a nine wicket HGOCCloss. Generously hosted by Sharjah Cricket Council after the match our

tour ended on a satisfying note as for many of us had never played

under lights in an international stadium before. Early next morning tookoff on Emirates Airlines from Dubai delighted with an a globe-trotting

effort which did not pale behind previous tours to New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong,

Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore, Barbados, England, China, Peru, Chile and now the Sub-

Continent and the United Emirates. If we look long in the tooth weve earned it-only Antarctica is left.
