This past month, theManaging Committee of Karachi Club has put up a recordnumber of programs for you and on behalf of ManagingCommittee I hope you enjoyed all of them. A number ofprograms have been arranged for you this month andwe all hope that you will enjoy these programs.

TV Lounge of KC has already been renovated,Steam/Sauna bath, Snack Bar and work on swimmingpool are in the process of being renovated, and hopefullymost of these facilities will be ready in the next coupleof months. We hope that all these renovations are as perthe high standards of our club members.

Entertainment

On 14th, August 2016, Entertainment Convenor,Faheem A. Sakrani and his sub-committeeorganized the Jasn-e-Azadi Mela at Karachi Clubafter a number of years. The event started withthe flag hoisting Ceremony which was attendedby the President Karachi Club Mr. Ashfaq YousufTola who hoisted the flag along with ManagingCommittee members Mr. Faheem Sakrani,Ashfaque Ghory, Yasir Farooq, Shoaib AminDhedhi, Sohail Yaqoob, Shahid Abdullah, AminDurvesh and a number of members and theirfamilies. All the members of ManagingCommittee members present were smartlydressed in traditional White National dress alongwith waist coats.

The Mela as has been a tradition was attendedthis year by a record number of members andtheir families. There was face painting, jumpingcastle, cartoon characters and much more forchildren. There were a number of stalls sellingvarious items at subsidized rates for themembers as well. Later a variety show was alsoheld which was hosted by Ghalib Kamal andSana Amjad. The show had everything foreveryone, from comedy skits to National songsby a number of singers like Tehseen Jawed,Naeem Abbas Rufi, Shazia Khushk, Salim Javed,Lucky Ali, and Nudrat Mughal.

As mentioned earlier, a record number ofmembers and their families attended theprogram and it went well beyond 2 am in themorning. Hats off to Faheem Sakrani and histeam for putting up such a fantastic program.

In line with tradition, the KC Swimming PoolCommittee organized an Intraclub SwimmingCompetition on 13th August 2016. More than 150participants entered to compete in various categories.There were 7 group in Beginners category and 9 groupin Regulars. Literary

On the evening of 27th, August 2016, ConvernorLibrary and Literary Commitee Mr. Khalil Bachaniwith his sub-committee organized an eveningwith the legendary Mr. Zia Mohyeddin. Mr. HafeezMemon Conducted the program. Mr. KhalilBachani ensured that the program started onthe given time and as is the tradition receivedthe legendary speaker. A program as refined asthis cannot be explained in words. Huge numberof members and their families attended theevent. Mr. Jawed H. Karim, Hon. Secretary KarachiClub presented the memento to Mr. ZiaMohyeddin and later Mr. Khalil Bachanipresented the Vote of Thanks.

I am a Karachi Club member. I decide to devote an evening entirely at the club. I arrive at 1600 hours and startof with tennis. I of course change into my designer tennis outfit and have a game with my graphite DunlopPromax racket. Then I go on to play badminton and squash. I am told that my Reebok have coloured soles andas these could leave marks on the courts I have to wear white soled shoes. I am pretty smart you see andmoreover my Reebok can take an insult or two in their stride and I take out from my kit bag my standby pairof Nike joggers with white soles.

After half an hour of each game I am pretty tired and thirsty. So I move on to the lawn for a drink and a nibble.Loand beholdI am told that I won’t be served as I am wearing shorts. I rush back to the changing rooms, changeinto my Swiss voile shirt and Italian trousers and come back to the lawn to savour my fish fingers and coke onthe rocks. After a little respite I head back to the health club. I am told by a tough looking guy that my dressisn’t right so I change back onto my shorts and T-shirt.

After doing my stint at the health club I feel like taking a dip in the pool.I take off my T-shirt and am about todive into the pool when I am told that shorts are not allowed and that I have to wear proper swimming trunks.They did not know that I was a keen Boy Scout in my not so distant youthful days where the motto was “BePrepared”. So I dip into my kit bag and take out my slimline polka dot swimming costume which I had pickedup on my last year’s trip to the French Riviera. Amidst raised eyebrows by men and downcast by ladies I diveinto the pool and do my twenty odd laps. After a refreshing swim I walk back to the changing rooms, this timea towel wrapped around my waist so as not to cause bother to the eyes of both ladies and gents alike.
