A Message from the CEO Elisa Richards is wrapping up her days as Chief

Executive Officer and as a senior at the University of Alabama. Richards is optimistic about the future of the

DO Chapter and has greatly enjoyed her time as President this year.

DELTA OMICRON CHAPTER

Dear sisters and alumnae, Serving as the chapter president this past year has given me the chance to learn what Kappa Alpha Theta is all about: sisterhood. I believe that our chapter has accomplished many goals this year because the entire house was working together. In 2014, our chapter had the most Panhellenic points in the Greek community, we received the Silver Kite Award at grand convention for Theta, we increased our return rates for recruitment, raised over $25,000 for CASA, reconnected with some alumnae and had house plans drawn up for a new home. During homecoming week, we placed first in Paint the Town Red, second in flag football and second in bowling. All of these achievements require teamwork and effort. I am so happy with how strong our chapter has grown, and I can’t wait to see the momentum continue in 2015. This fall we welcomed 127 new members into our sisterhood, totaling 374 members. The goal I have for each member is that they learn how to become a leading woman while they are here. In addition, I want to thank everyone who has put in an endless amount of work striving to make our chapter better.

I know that Delta Omicron holds a special place in everyone’s heart as we call it our ‘home away from home’. This past year I’ve faced many challenges and amazing opportunities, but I truly believe that this experience has molded me into the woman I want to become. I can only hope that each member will gain the positive influence Theta has given me as well as my pledge class. Elisa Richards, Chief Executive Officer

Lindsay Rieland Panhellenic Director of Community Development and Outreach

DELTA OMICRON CHAPTER

In November, Lindsay Rieland was slated to serve as the Director of Community Development and Outreach for the Alabama Panhellenic Executive Council. We are so proud that Rieland will be one of the 11 representatives to serve the Greek community. In 2014, Rieland served as the Chief Panhellenic Officer for our chapter and she worked diligently to increase our recognition in the Panhellenic community. At the end of the year, our house had the most Panhellenic points, proving that our chapter attended the most philanthropic events on campus in 2014. Rieland will be the first representative the Delta Omicron chapter has had on the Panhellenic Executive Council in years. We can’t wait to watch Lindsay become a leader on campus!

Hit the Court for CASA

In November, Theta hosted a new philanthropy event Hit the Court for CASA with the University of Alabama Men’s Tennis team! It was a tennis clinic and auction for dates with the players! Together we raised about $5,000 for the Birmingham Chapter of CASA.

Fall Back… Big/Little Reveal Big/Little reveal is one of our favorite traditions at the Theta house! We were so excited to welcome the new members into our families! In the week leading up to reveal, bigs visited their littles with presents and decorations. The night of Big/ Little, new members received the best present of all: a big sister! Tara King, Communications Director 2015

Initiation We were proud to welcome our new members to the sisterhood at initiation this fall! This unique and diverse new member class is a wonderful addition to our chapter. Our new members are now Thetas for a lifetime! Tara King, Communications Director 2015

Football Season Football season for Alabama Thetas is always a treat! We hosted many game day lunches at the chapter house for our alumnae, families, and friends. We cannot wait to cheer on the Tide in the SEC championship and the playoffs later this

season!

Catherine Porter for Homecoming Queen

Kappa Alpha Theta was proud to support our sister Catherine Porter for Homecoming Queen this year! Porter made the Homecoming Court and had a great experience throughout the week. Our whole house worked hard to campaign and support her by reaching out to

individual organizations that our members are a part of.

Congratulations to Catherine Porter!

Spotlight on Philanthropy: Fall Harvest Fest

DELTA OMICRON CHAPTER

For the first time Kappa Alpha Theta hosted a Fall Harvest Fest philanthropy event benefiting our local philanthropy the, Rise School. This event took place on Theta's National Day of Service, which is also our Founder, Betty Lock's birthday. The Rise school is a school for children with disabilities as well as their typically developing peers. The Rise School was one of the first intervention programs in the state of Alabama. It has grown from a one bedroom house to a state-of-the-art facility located on the UA Campus. The Rise School is made up of over 80 children and serves as a model for the development of similar programs across the country. This event was also open to local preschool and kindergarden classes. The event included everything from pumpkin painting and pin the spider on the web, to face painting and ghost bowling. All of these craft stations were designed to be developmentally appropriate for preschool and kindergardeners. Theta members were designated to each of these stations to help the children create the crafts. The whole Theta house was decorated with an array of fall decorations to get everyone in the Fall spirit. The most popular station was the picture station. Each child sat on a haystack in front of a large decorated fall themed backdrop designed to look like a real fall harvest! Theta provided food and beverages for the guests as well. The Fall Harvest t-shirts that the actives wore were also sold at the event in adult and youth sizes for the guests to purchase. All proceeds went to support the Rise School. One of the most memorable experiences of this event was seeing the joy on the children's faces while making the crafts and getting their face painted. Theta plans to invite even more local elementary schools to hopefully get an even larger guest population than this year. We would like to thank the all parents and children who attended this event and hope to see you again next year! Abby Mirick, Service and Philanthropy Chair 2013-14
