newsletter Mandali Through this newsletter I would like to inform you about new products in the store and new activities that I am going to organize. Also background information about local products, ordering options and news from the village of Kournas are discussed. I hope you enjoyed reading this newsletter and if you have friends, acquaintances or colleagues, who are interested, let them enjoy and send them through this newsletter. Of course they can also sign up via the website. If you have any other questions or if you want information about Crete please let me know. I will answer you as soon as possible and maybe it is an interesting topic in a next newsletter. I wish you a nice start into the summer and would like to see you in the next newsletter. I also like to tell you something about the new activities of Mandali in Kournas. Because we have some this season! The range has also been expanded. But let me start at the beginning. April in Kournas That it is almost summer in Crete we can now see everywhere: exuberant flowers and blossoms, nature is greener than green, fresh strawberries on the market, higher temperatures, many building activities at hotels and restaurants and especially more tourists and more traffic. We are excited! Because a picture says more than 1000 words: donkeys in Kournas A wish of us was to have donkeys in the village of Kournas again. But that was not so easy. There are not so many donkeys on the island. Their place is taken by cars. But after a lot of questions and searching, we succeeded and my husband Arno and I are the proud "parents" of the donkeys Cleo, 2 years old and Eos, 7 years old. They are here in Kournas for 4 weeks now and in the morning and in the afternoon they are waiting at Mandali for the walkers who go along with the botanical walk or the village walk. Eos and Cleo love people and are happy to be caressed and cuddled. Eos is currently very pregnant and expects her first foal in a few weeks. So exciting! walking with donkeys On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, Arno takes the donkeys with him on the botanical walk in the back garden of Kournas. He starts at 10:15 am at Mandali. This walk takes about 2 hours, incl. A break at the Agios Ioannis church. Every afternoon at 16:00 the village walk starts with donkeys, in which Arno shows a number of special places and tells about everyday life in Kournas. This walk takes about an hour. Do you also want to take part? Then come 10 minutes before the start of the walk to Mandali in Kournas. Botanical walk Extra As in previous years, the botanical walk EXTRA is also on the program: on Monday and Wednesday, at 9:30 am, this adventurous herb walk starts, including the (EXTRA) walking path through the forest, the Azilakas path. This walk takes about 2.5 hours and also starts at Mandali. More information about all walks can be found on the Mandali website new at Mandali Every winter we are looking for special and beautiful items to complement the assortment of Mandali and we have found very nice wooden kombolois and bracelets. We have also supplemented the ceramics with handmade raki cups, which you can also use as egg cups. During the olive harvest, Arno and I helped with the olive harvest at Stelios for a day. He is the farmer in Kournas from whom I buy the olive oil for Mandali. During the harvest, I made a lot of photos and I have had an album made. On the story table you can have a look at the album and you can see how the olives are harvested. Local products With so many grapes and so much wine around here, there must also be some nice wine vinegar. And I found it! So, new at Mandali: natural wine vinegar. Also new is the fresh lemon marmalade and the "spoon fruit", in the flavors, carrot, orange, cherries, morel and quince. And let me not forget to tell you that the raki with strawberries is available again and the taste is so good ... Ordering local products from MANDALI Several times a year Peter comes from Germany to Crete with his delivery van. He usually has space on the way back to take a number of packages with him. So if your olive oil or honey runs out faster than expected or if you come to Crete next time with only hand luggage, do not worry, you can order various local products at Mandali. At this link you will see an overview of the products that you can order. The sales prices and shipping costs are also mentioned.
