Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC

IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) provides the guidelines for the following:

The Cell monitors the teaching – learning process through its members and

introduces the e-curricula based innovative teaching. There is regular follow-up

checking the lesson plan, work load, teaching aids, individual log book, syllabus

completion, methods adopted for coaching weak students, etc

Feedbacks have been received from students about the effectiveness of teaching

and its follow-up through class committee meetings. Necessary action has been

taken and personal counselling provided to the needy students.

The staff are allowed to attend the FDPs, Seminar and conferences to update their

knowledge and skills.

The cell encourages the faculty to publish papers in national and international

conferences and journals, register patent with the team work involving students

also.

Establishing network with experts abroad, academicians and industrialists

in the newer technology for conducting International Conference on Newer

Engineering concepts and Technology – 2018.

Communication skill programmes, Value added certificate courses & Pre-

placement training programmes were conducted to enhance the level of

placement.

e-lab has been introduced for the coding (C,C++ and JAVA) skill development for

all students and staff.

Motivational and Career guidance training programmes were offered to

strengthen the confidence level of students to pursue their higher studies and for

better placement.

The library utilization has been enriched by assigning library and project hour in

the regular timetable itself.

For the support to placement in final year the preliminary training related to

aptitude, communication skill development has been given by specialized trainers

for II and III year students and the assessment test is also conducted once in week

and once in 15 days for III and II year respectively for evaluation of effectiveness

of training.

E-Curricula based teaching has been introduced to train the students to utilize the

ICT facility.

Yes. Once in every 5 years the regulation for the syllabus has been revised by Anna

University. At present we are following the Regulation 2017 for 1st year & Regulation 2013

for III & IV year students. In regulation 2013, the number of subjects for 8th

semester has

been revised as 4 from 3 for ECE department & University exam question pattern has been

changed with Part B having 5 question each carry 13 marks and one question in Part C with

15 marks from 2015-19 batch onwards.

How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes: -

Contribution to Teaching: Academic calendar is prepared before the commencement of every semester which

reflects the departmental activities planning for symposiums, workshops, conferences,

guest lectures, unit tests, class committee meetings, model theory and practical

examinations for effective execution of planning and teaching learning process.

Time table is prepared to execute the lesson plan for completion of syllabus within the

stipulated time and few hours are allotted for placement training activities.

For effective teaching, detailed lesson plan for each theory and practical course is

prepared for prescribed syllabus and also the content beyond the syllabus for each

subject is provided to enhance their knowledge in every subject.

To bridge the gap between the industry and institution, guest lectures are arranged

from reputed institutions like NIT, IIT, VIT and leading industries. Also all the

departments are organizing special workshops and value added courses based on the

industrial requirements.

The students are motivated to participate and organize inter-collegiate workshops,

symposia, technical contests and seminars to enrich their technical and non technical

skills to face the competitive world.

Special attention for the slow learners is given through mentoring, coaching classes

after the working hours.

Monitoring:

Syllabus completion and other activities are reviewed in the departmental meetings

and Class Committee meetings which are conducted 3 times in a semester periodically.

Reviewing every course log books (both theory and laboratory) by the HoD once in a

month and the same by the Principal to monitor the effective completion of the courses.

Class committee meetings are conducted twice in a month to review the progress of the

course, performance of the students, syllabus completion and grievances on general

issues.

Student’s performance is monitored and necessary follow up action is discussed in the

result analysis review meeting and implemented by respective by the respective class

advisors.

Student’s feedbacks through class committee meeting and online are used to improve

the quality of faculty teaching. Also compliant and suggestion are available to collect

the students feedback.

Evaluation:

Students’ academic performance is evaluated continuously through the unit tests,

model examinations and university results.

Students’ performance in laboratory classes are evaluated in every practical class

through viva voce and model practical examinations has been conducted at the end of

the portion completion.

Students are motivated to involve in real time projects and present their innovative

ideas in national and international conferences and project contest.

Inter departmental auditing is conducted every month and reviewed to improve the

quality of teaching learning and infrastructure facilities.

Criterion – III

3. Research, Consultancy and Extension

Initiatives of the IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the institution

Faculty members are encouraged to submit research proposals to various funding

agencies like DST, DRDO, AICTE etc.

Students are encouraged to submit project proposals to TNCST under student

project scheme.

Faculty members and students are motivated to involve in research activities by

making them to attend/organize workshop, seminar and conference related to their

research / major thrust areas.

Faculty members are sponsored to pursue their higher studies under part time /

full time basis.

Internet facility with Wi-Fi connectivity is made available throughout the campus to

Awareness programme is conducted for the benefit of students by experts from

Anna University / IIT / agencies.

Counselling:

Monthly Report containing the academic Performance and attendance details are sent to

the parents periodically through HoD and Principal.

Personal Meeting with parents is conducted for the needy students

Teaching and Learning

The college follows the following methods to ensure better teaching and learning process

Academic calendar An academic calendar is prepared at the beginning of every semester which contains all the

details of the departmental activities and test, model and University tentative theory and practical

commencement date.

Lesson plan Lesson plans are prepared for both theory and practical class for effective delivery of course and

to complete the syllabus within the period prescribed by the university

Time Table The time table is prepared for all the theory and laboratory courses in adherence to the Anna

University curriculum.

The class hours are planned to ensure optimum utilization of time period for effective teaching.

Besides, few periods are allocated for training and placement classes.

Assessment Tests Two terminal tests and two model examination are being conducted in a semester for theory and

one model exam is conducted for practicals with continuous assessment in each and every class

through viva voce.

In accordance with Anna University norms, the internal marks are calculated based on the

performance of the students in the assessment tests.

Tutorial In the tutorial classes, students are given a set of problems under the guidance of concern subject

faculty along with tutors.

Examination and Evaluation

Question banks, Lecture Notes and Lab Manuals are prepared by the Staff

members and verified by HoD of each department and are provided to the

students.

The internal exam cell organizes the internal assessment exams and the university

exam cell takes care of university exams.

Three tests per semester: Terminal Test 1, Terminal Test 2 and model exam- I & II

are conducted. The question papers for the internal exams are set by the internal

and external faculty and are being evaluated within 2 days after completion the

exams by the concerned faculty. For Terminal 2 exams, the evaluation is carried

out by interchanging the answer papers among the two faculties handling the

parallel class for the same subject.

Internal marks are allotted based on the assessment test marks and the student’s

attendance Percentage. Theory and practical examinations consists of two

components namely, External evaluation for 80% marks and internal evaluation

for 20% marks.

The performance of slow learners has been improved through coaching and retest.

Special activities have been conducted for top 25% of performed student’s.

The attendances as well as the assessment marks are communicated to the parents

and parent of the poor performance students and the parents are asked to meet the

class advisor, HOD and Principal to improve their progress.

For laboratory courses, assessments are made continuously by correcting

laboratory observation and record note books, asking viva voce question related to

the experiment to evaluate the performance of the students. The model

examinations for the laboratory courses are also conducted for the students to do

the university practical examinations effectively.

Research and Development

Faculty members are encouraged to submit research proposals to various funding

agencies like DST, DRDO, ISRO, AICTE etc.

Students are encouraged to submit project proposals to TNCST under student

project scheme.

Faculty members and students are motivated to involve in research activities by

making them to attend/organize workshop, seminar and conference related to their

research / major thrust areas.

Faculty members are sponsored to pursue their higher studies under part time /

full time basis.

At the end of every academic year, the workload for the next academic year is

calculated as per AICTE and Anna University norms in all departments based on

their intake.

The number of vacancies are calculated and filled up.

An advertisement is released in leading local dailies.

The selection of the faculties is made by the selection committee purely on merit.

The selection committee scrutinizes the application and the following steps are

carried out in selecting competent teachers.

First round is a written test to test their language knowledge.

Second round is a seminar on their area of interest, to check their

Admission of Students

UG ADMISSION

Candidates should have passed HSC of State board or equivalent with Mathematics,

Physics, and Chemistry and other language subjects. Minimum marks 40 % of in

Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry and minimum pass for SC /ST candidates.

65% of the students are admitted through Anna University single window

counselling. 35% of the seats are filled up through consortium of self financing

colleges.

In this case the students need to have qualifying marks as prescribed by the

Government of Tamil Nadu.

PG ADMISSION

Candidates should have passed B.E. / B.Tech / AMIE/ or equivalent examination for

seeking admission into relevant PG courses and its specialization.

50% of the seats are filled through TANCET by Anna University and remaining

50% of seats are filled through qualifying marks obtained in CET conducted by

consortium of Self- financing colleges.

Teaching:

The employees of the College shall be entitled to the benefits of Provident Fund

maintained for persons in the service of the College in accordance with the

provisions of the rules of the Fund.

Faculty members are sponsored for higher study on deputation under QIP

Performance Monitoring:

Right from the time of admission, performance of every student is carefully monitored.

Based on the examination results, faculty advisors take up counselling of poor

performers and try to assess the reasons for their poor performance. HOD’s arrange

special classes for poor performers.

Periodic meetings are conducted by the Principal and HODs to review the results of

internal and external examinations.

The analysis of the results of end semester examinations is carried out, and further

discussed by HOD with the Principal.

Teaching staff members guide the students in their projects, monitor their performance

and counsel them regarding their performance, apart from regular teaching. Thus,

teachers play different roles like project guides, mentors, etc.

This process ensures the quality of the teaching process. Administration Academic

Coordinators and Class advisers closely monitor student performance and intimate the

Student evaluation:

At college level two cycle tests and one model exam are conducted for internal

evaluation. The university conducts the end semester examination.

Evaluation procedure & guidelines are given to the staff for both theory & practical

exams. Corrected answer scripts of internal exam are shown to the students. Students

are encouraged to express their doubts and irregularities observed, if any, in the
