RA 10533 “Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013”
This act is a response to the foraging call of the need for a nationally responsive and globally competitive Filipinos starting with educational reforms. [ASEAN INTEGRATION]
It focuses on meeting the standards of education globally in terms of length and alignment of competencies needed by the industries.

The K-12 program covers kindergarten and 12 years of Basic Education.

Ages 6 (Grades 1-6)
1.Mother-Tongue Based multilingual Education (MTB-MLE)Use of child’s primary medium as instruction for grade 1-3. Gradual introduction of Filipino and English for grades 4-6 will follow.
2. Mother Tongue will be an additional subject from gr. 1-3.

*BEC 2002 Standard subjects will still prevail however Science will be offered on Grade 3.

1. DepED – CHED –TESDA collaboration of the three to make strategies that will ensure smooth transition.
2. Career Guidance and Counseling Advocacy. Conduct of career advocacy activities to secondary level students. [Not withstanding RA. 9258]
3. E-GASTPE Expansion of Beneficiaries. RA. 8545 shall be extended to qualified students enrolled in Basic Education.

1. Readiness of the government to fund and implement K-12 nationwide (logistic, human resources and stability)
2. Adequacy of competencies parallel to the demands of K-12 education (Teachers in particular)
3. Massive lay-offs for Professors in HEI’s for the full implementation years of grade 11 and 12.

RECOMMENDATION1. Engagement of all the stakeholders
affected in the implementation of the program. (parents, teachers etc)
2. Continuous trainings and seminars about K-12.
3. Yearly review of policy makers and implementers regarding the status of the under-going program.
4. Research and Evidenced based practices must be utilized.
