Irene Woodburn Wright Award
Official Award Description
Irene joined Ashbury in 1944. In that year, she developed a Junior School Music program which was the beginning of the musical theme which has endured. The 1967 Ashburian says Irene Wright in the Junior school has felt that music is perhaps the most important single subject being taught to the boys.....If a boy has developed a fondness for music he of course has a fuller and happier adult life. Irene made all this possible. Few boys can have gone through her classes without some good effect, and many boys gained a love of music which is to last their life times....Her classes were always fun, but along with the listening was the background work. She left the school in 1967 after 23 years of service. Items to consider when judging (anecdotal comments) Prize for grade 8 music. Highest academic standing and with participation in the band.
