LETTER FROM THE BOARD
Summer is going by quickly with plenty of activity still underway here at LDLP. The first phase of
painting is complete. Plans are in place to begin the second (and final) phase in January 2020 (see
more information below). Roofing is continuing for another few weeks, the safety committee is
putting together a list of needed supplies, and the summer flowers are in place.
Speaking of summer flowers, Sunshine has completed cutting back the lantana along the pony
walls. This proved to be a more complicated, time-consuming task than expected and resulted in
crews falling behind on yard maintenance. Plans are already in place to make sure this does not
occur again, and Sunshine is working hard to bring all front yards back to top condition (and
despite the summer heat). Apologies to all who were affected and please rest assured this situation
is being carefully monitored, as is the need to prune more of our trees.
There continue to be issues with use of the lake’s pontoon boat by residents. Accidents involving
failure to follow instructions keep occurring. The Board is evaluating new policies governing use
and these will be announced by fall.
The Board wants to formally thank those residents who are coming forward to keep social
activities ongoing this summer. A major event is the 4th of July barbecue being spearheaded by
Dawn Billings and Judy Siegel (see more details on the following page). Residents’ efforts are
helping keep many favorite events, such as CoffeePlus and WineDown, also going throughout
these summer months.

It won’t be long now before we’re all back from our travels, whether to other homes or new
adventures. Safe journeys and see you all soon!

PAINT PROJECT UPDATES
As most residents should be aware, the HOA has made a commitment to completing the painting
project in 2020. With the first phase painting done those residents in Phase 2 can view the 2020
color palette on the following homes:
Scheme 1: Village Crier/August Moon 48101 Calle Floristas
Scheme 2: Thistle Grey/Young Colt 48207 Calle Floristas
Scheme 3: Macadamia Brown/Ivory Ridge 48249 Calle Floristas
Scheme 5: Young Colt/Thistle Grey 48251 Calle Floristas
Scheme 6: Ivory Ridge/Dusty Path 48245 Calle Floristas
Scheme 7: Roman Ruins/Moonscape 48247 Calle Floristas
Scheme 8: Dusty Path/Delicate Honeysweet 48209 Calle Floristas
Please note that after careful consideration the previous scheme 4 (baguette) was eliminated for
Phase 2 due to how close in color it is to scheme 6 and the community’s desire for more variation
in home appearances.
A Town Hall providing much more detailed information regarding the painting project is
scheduled for 11 a.m. on Nov. 16th. MC Painting, Vista Paint and LDLP management
representatives will all be present. Affected residents will also be receiving a letter with more
timing details, including when paint color choices are to be submitted.
In the meantime, this summer work is underway to change front yard irrigation heads and to then
make necessary front yard stucco repairs. Again more details will be coming soon but it is exciting
that homes throughout our entire community will soon be painted this fresh color palette.
MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE UPDATE
The Maintenance Committee is not meeting during the summer months but work by committee
members is still underway. In particular, Dave Nichols is continuing to closely monitor lake levels
along with having updated the committee’s concrete repair report with proposed expenditures.
3
This fall Dave along with Dan Molitor will be helping secure bids from three different vendors for
such work (driveways, curbs, sidewalks) so the first phase of repair work can begin in the fall.
Maintenance requests are likewise being monitored throughout the summer.
The committee continues to seek out new members so please contact the office if interested, or
email Barry Kaufman at [email protected].
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES CONTINUE
Happy Independence Day! Join with your neighbors to celebrate the holiday at a July 4th BBQ,
hosted by Dawn Billings and Judy Siegel. The fun begins with Happy Hour at 5:00 p.m. in the
clubhouse followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. Dawn and Judy are providing hot dogs, hamburgers
(with our without cheese), chicken breasts, plus buns, condiments, and sparklers for the festivities.
It is hoped that many residents will join in. Please bring a dish to fill out the menu (a side, salad or
desert to feed 6 to 8.), plus the event is BYOB. Sign up for a dish in the clubhouse if possible.
Cost is $10 per person to be paid at the door. Supporting some of our local nonprofits has long
been a topic of discussion and for this event all net profits will be donated to SafeHouse of the
Desert. With community support SafeHouse provides emergency shelter, intervention and
outreach services to youth in crisis. Help Laguna de la Paz be part of that community support. If
you have questions please contact Dawn at (503) 385-6393) or Judy at (503) 881-9442.
Also don’t miss this month’s WineDown on July 10th, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., hosted by
Jackie and Barry Kaufman. Bring your beverage of choice and a snack to share. It’s a time for great
conversation, fun and getting to know your neighbors. Plus it’s really nice to get out of our homes
for a while during these hot times! Hosts are still needed for August and September. It’s easy, no
special prep needed. Please contact Judy Siegel or Patty Nichols to sign up!
CoffeePlus is also continuing throughout the summer, happening Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00
a.m. at the clubhouse. Enjoy a cup of bottomless coffee for just $.50 for those with LDLP mugs,
4
or $1.00 without. Most weeks there is a “plus” as well. More hosts for these summer weeks are
needed so to volunteer please contact Judy Siegel or stop on by a Saturday soon to sign up. It’s
easy, fun, and another good way to stay in touch with neighbors, as well as make new friends!
Instructions are also found in the kitchen.
On Thursdays pool/billiards is taking place at 6:30 p.m. in the clubhouse. Come on over, shoot a
game of pool, watch, or have a happy hour!
The clubhouse is also a comfortable place to “hang out”, to read, surf the web (bring your own
devices) or play cards or other games with friends.
For the next season a VERY lively calendar of events at LDLP has already been planned.
However, some events will also take place around the area, great for those with special interests.
The first, an informal outing to Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre, just occurred when a group of
residents attended “Twilight Café” during which our own Patricia Del-Ruth’s play “Ice, Ice” was
performed. Stand by for announcements of more such events in the future.
Also fall marks the return of Fab Fridays, thanks to Nan Tomasko. A full calendar of upcoming
events, to get on those calendars now, will be in the August/September newsletter (after that the
newsletter goes back to its regular monthly schedule, and will include some new information as
well).
Happy 4th and Happy Summer everyone!
LANDSCAPING COMMITTEE UPDATE
Summer continues to be a busy season for LDLP’s landscape crew. Cutting back of the lantanas
(to foster more attractive future growth) took considerably longer than expected, and will be done
instead in phases during any future pruning. This, combined with the need to cut back plants near
some of the pony walls in order to complete painting, threw off yard maintenance schedules far
more than anticipated. The landscape situation is carefully monitoring this situation and all yards
should be soon attended to with the regular scheduled upkeep going forward. Apologies go to all
who have been affected. (Trimming of trees throughout the property is also taking place).
The winter rains also contributed to a serious weed problem throughout the property. Sunshine
has been administering treatments that should take care of these problem areas, but Dean
5
Wendland, during his regular tours of the property, will be looking out for future outbreaks so that
they can quickly be addressed.
There are also a few plant requests from residents that remain open. However, new plants cannot
be put in until the weather cools (somewhat) in October. All those affected should have received
communication from management about this.
Finally “thank you” to Jeane Stewart who served as landscape committee chair for the past year
but has now resigned. Dawn Billings is the interim chair, and more residents are urged to join this
key committee. If interested please contact Dawn directly or let the office know.
BE COURTEOUS, FOLLOW THE RULES
Here is a reminder that ALL dogs must be on leashes when on LDLP property. This is not just an
LDLP rule but also a La Quinta law.
Speaking of those four-legged friends, please remember to clean up after your pet. Doggie stations
are located throughout the property so there’s no excuse!!
Also, please remember that resident’s cars are not to be on the streets without permits. Too, a
number of garage doors have been open all day. While opening these slightly during the heat is
recommended, these are not supposed to be completely open for multiple hours. Those on
premises might especially want to remind newer residents of this rule.
