This past May, over1,500 Key Clubbers and Kiwanians took over the Wynham Orlando Resort for a weekend full of fun and service at the Florida Key Club District Convention. From leadership workshops to meet-and-greets, convention was a fun way for Key Clubbers to learn about service. Friday night featured the FSU CKI dance team, Systematic Dance Crew and U4RIA Dance Crew and entertainment for the talent & recognition session. Saturday was the ELIMINATE walk where $11,900 was raised to help pay for neonatal tetanus vaccinations in third world countries. That night at the Governor’s banquet the 2010-11 District Board was retired and the 2011-2012 District Board was installed

Check out videos of the FSU CKI dance team, Systematic Dance Crew, U4RIA Dance Crew and the Talent and Oracle contest winners on the Florida District’s Youtube page.

On June 29- July 3, more than 40 Florida District members headed out to Phoenix, Arizona to represent this MIGHTY MIGHTY District amongst nearly 1,500 Key Clubbers at International Convention

Hello Florida,

My name is Jared Greene and I’m your international trustee for the 2011-2012 service year. As international trustee I serve on the International board of Key Club and make decisions that affect our entire organization. I also bring information about these decisions to your district and your two sister districts (Jamaica and The Carolinas) while bringing your ideas and voice to the international level.

I can’t wait to work with all of you as we continue the Key club tradition of transforming our world, our communities, and ourselves all in the name of service and caring. This year is incredibly exciting because as we do all this we also have the opportunity to dive deeper into The Eliminate Project and reach our goal of $110 Million dollars by 2015 to finally eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus from the face of the earth. This will take dedication from all branches of our Kiwanis family but I trust that we will be able to accomplish this.

As the year progresses please remember that I am always here to help you if you have any questions, ideas, or comments. Feel free to email me at [email protected] and I would like to wish you the most productive and fun filled service year imaginable.

Yours in Caring and Service,

Jared Greene

Trustee’s MessageThe Florida District’s 2011-2012 International Trustee

Governor Doug chose the “Mentoring and Modeling Program” as a way for high schoolers to tutor and teach younger students a lesson. Each club will be receiving a guidebook with step-by-step instructions on how to participate. “A Key Clubber will interact with one child and mentor them in different ways. This should create a strong relationship, and hopefully the Key Clubber will be able to mentor and model this child,” said Governor Doug Ream. In order for the project to be considered part of the M&M program: 1) a lesson must be taught 2) the lesson must be taught to a child*To qualify for the Governor’s Project Banner Patch, your club must have completed 3 different M&M projects throughout the year.

Reactivating Florida’s oldest Key Club charter- a K-family effort to strengthen Fort Lauderdale High School’s club

Fort Lauderdale High School- reciving their charter in the late 1930s, they are Florida’s oldest and most historical club. After becoming inactive and on the brink of losing their charter last year, past Division 23B Lt. Governor Amy Imbrigiotta stepped in and, with the help of Kiwanis Division 23 Lieutenant Governor David Platz, Division 23B Key Club Advisor and Kiwanian Richard Leys, Wilton Manors Kiwanis Club President Sheryl Chesler, Key Club District Administrator David McCampbell, Key Club Assistant District Administrator Dennis Freckleton, and Pompano Beach High Key Club, she was able to attract new members and save this beloved charter. “Being part of Key Club, it feels great to give back and change lives,” added member Aaron Paulk, “with our reactivation it feels great that we can make people happy with our service.” After Attending DCON with 4 other members and their advisor, the club now has plans to hold a fundraiser for ELIMINATE, and club President James Predulus is working hard on participating in many service projects and fund rasiers.
