TRHS Club: Hard to believe another school year has flown by! We have 4 graduating Seniors;

Allison Horner, Marlon Rezach, Alex Johnson, & Mindy Glaser, we wish them the best of luck on

the future endeavors. Special recognition goes to Allison who received the Senior Service Award

from Two Rivers High School! This award is presented to a senior

that has demonstrated the value of service to the community

during their high school years. Congrats Allison! May was a

whirlwind of a month, not a lot of service projects but a lot of

money coming in and going out! We supported post prom and

Senior Lock In with a $100 donation to each. We recently

purchased two Fit-Bits for the annual Variety Show coming up on

June 2nd. We had an outstanding Electronics Drive with a lot of

helpers and a lot of stuff collected

with an amazing profit to help

support all our projects. We just

voted to give the Robotics Team

STEMPunk 4531 a $300 donation

for all their help with the

electronics drive. We would like

to thank club members Ed Plansky, Colleen

Sheahan, Greg Goodchild & of course Ann & Judy for their help at

the electronics drive too! We also want to say thank you to the

Two Rivers Optimist Club for

supporting our youth club and

treating us to breakfast at the

Law Enforcement Breakfast on

May 9th. In April, during spring

break, we had 2 of our students

help with reading to Preschool children at two different day cares

and then we went and painted with some of the elderly at

Meadow View Assisted Living: thanks Haley Vanne and Emily

Duvall! The club plans to support the Cancer Walk, Bike Rodeo,

Bike Parade, & of course Kites Over Lake Michigan. We hope you

all have a wonderful summer and stay safe!

Advisors to the Club are Judy Goodchild and Ann Sheahan

Since the first known line-of-duty death in 1791, more than 20,000 U.S. law

enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice. According to the National

Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Webpage (www.nleomf.org), a total

of 1,512 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty during the past 10

years, an average of one death every 63 hours! There were a total of 143 law enforcement officers

killed in the line of duty in 2016. Officers from Wisconsin recently honored in May at the Washington

DC National Memorial Service were:

ADAM JOHN HARTWIG: Ozaukee County S.O. End of Watch: 03/18/2016 MICHAEL JOSUA VENTURA: Salem Dept. of Public Safety End of Watch: 07/08/2016

CHARLES WILLIAM GUDGELL: Milwaukee P.D. End of Watch: 08/22/1916 DAN THOMAS GLAZE, JR: Rusk County S.O. End of Watch: 10/29/2016

On May 9th, we took time to recognize members of the Two Rivers Police

Department. Also in attendance as our special guests were be members of the

Two Rivers High School Octagon Club. We had a great turn out and feel

confident the TRPD knows they have our support! We awarded Assistant Chief

Brian Kohlmeier our Officer of the Year Award. AC Kohlmeier is the second in

command of the department and responsible for the day to day operations

including patrol, investigations and special programs. We also presented

the TRPD with a $200 donation in support of local youth programs.

MAY NIGHT MEETING SUMMARY Submitted by Kelly Hilliker

Lt. Drew Raatz and Officer

Briana Propson, Advisors of

the Two Rivers Police

Explorer Post, were our May

guest speakers.

Law Enforcement

Exploring also known as Police

Explorers, is a career-oriented program that

gives young adults the opportunity to

explore a career in law enforcement by

working with local enforcement agencies.

Founded in 1963, it is a non-Scouting

subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Two Rivers Police Explorer Post is

available to qualified young adults between

the ages of 14 to 21. Members get hands on

instruction in tactical training, traffic stops,

building searches, report

writing and more. They

interact regularly in our

community by providing an

additional uniformed

presence at special events

like parades, festivals and special events like

the fireworks. They also take time to

compete the skills they have learned at

state and national conferences. Officer

Propson shared her view as a former TRPD

Explorer who pursued her education and

ultimately was hired as a TRPD Officer!

I was impressed with the structure and

discipline needed to be included in this

unique group. What a great program that

allows those under 21 to get some hands on

training and experience to see if law

enforcement is a career for them.

ZONE MEETING WRAP UP Submitted by Lt Gov Ann Sheahan

Thank you to all who attended our 3rd Qtr

Zone Meeting on April 26th at Mr. Lucky’s in

Valders. We had 33 Optimist gather from 6

different clubs to hear about “Project Hope

for Haiti”. Amber LaChapelle gave a

presentation about her passion for the

people of Haiti. She was there in December

with her brother and Mom to help the people

of Haiti recover from Hurricane Matthew

which was preceded by an earthquake a few

years prior. The people were so grateful for

the food, shelter, and hope they

provided. They have another trip planned for

the end of May and are going to help them

with gardening skills and supplies. We had

raffle baskets available at the meeting and

the profit of $238.00 was given to Amber’s

project; little did we know that she needed

$200.00 for seeds for this trip by the end of

April and we were able to help her fulfill this

portion of her mission trip! We can take

pride in knowing that we made a difference

in the lives of the people of Haiti. We also

had Optimist Governor Elect Tony Yaggie &

his wife Kathy inspire us with words of

encouragement and hope for the future of

the WINUM Optimist. It was a great night of

sharing Optimism and fellowship. Thank you

again to all that attended.
