Fire and Emergency New Zealand

International Firefighters Day

In early May the Government announced a $303 million overhaul of the Fire Service. This overhaul is set to create an organisation fit for the 21st century.

The NZ Fire Service will merge with the National Fire Authority and more than 40 other rural fire services to create a new single organization to be known as Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

The changes will put the country’s 12,000 volunteer firefighters in a direct relationship with the main organisation for the first time, while recognizing the increased medical and emergency work being carried out by firefighters.

International Firefighters Day was on May 4. We would like to say a huge thank you to all our firefighters not just on May the 4th but everyday. What you do is invaluable to our communities.

H oliday Discount in New Zealand

81 Beach Road, Akaroa 7521Email [email protected] (New Zealand Only) 0800 695 2000 - Local (03) 304 1111

We are very pleased to offer the following for your members and their families as a small gesture of our appreciation for their service to the community. Nestled in the very heart of town, the Akaroa Village Inn has over 30 units available, ranging in size from studio apartments to two bedroom units, offering a variety of sunny courtyard, waterfront and sea view units.

All of our units are privately owned, which means you can enjoy a level of comfort like your very own ‘home away from home’. We offer a level of personal service to match and welcome everyone as part of the village family!

We would like to offer a 10% discount all year round off our current available rates for singles or couples. Further to this, we will waive the regular $30 per person, per night, supplement for more than two people staying in a unit. This means families or small groups can save a substantial amount per night when booking our larger units which can accommodate up to six people.

Could you picture yourself here…?

I am guessing that we can verify a membership detail upon arrival? It costs nothing to make a booking online and we can confirm details via email to assure your members that they are entitled to the offer mentioned here. Otherwise, they are always free to walk in when in town to see what we have available. Our website will be undergoing some big changes in the next four to six weeks but the booking page will remain the same. We can be found here: www.akaroavillageinn.co.nz

U nique Retirement Income Scheme

Turn your nest egg into a retirement income for the rest of your life. You’ve spent your working life saving for retirement. So what happens when you do retire and the money starts flowing the other way?

For the first time in New Zealand, the Lifetime Income Fund combines investment and insurance to give you an income for life. Whatever happens in the markets, the income you get from your nest egg is protected. Your regular income payments can start any time after you turn 65 and will continue for the rest of your life, however long you live.

Annual Tax Paid Income Rates

Age at firstincome withdrawal

Lifetime withdrawalbenefit rate (tax paid)

65 to 69 5.0% p.a.

70 to 74 5,5% p.a.

75 to 79 6.0% p.a.

80 to 85 6.5% p.a.

How Lifetime Income Fund works

The fund invests your savings in a balanced portfolio. Regular withdrawals are made from the fund to provide income payments.

The regular income payments are made regardless of how the fund performs. If your regular income payments use up all your savings, the fund continues paying your regular income for the rest of your life.

If you choose to invest in the Lifetime Income Fund but defer when you start receiving the income payments, Lifetime will protect the level of your future income payments from negative market movements.

Your savings are held in your name by the trustee of the Fund. You can withdraw your funds at any time (less any applicable withdrawal fees) and whatever remains in your fund at the time of your death is paid to your estate.
