sculpted tiles of foliage and wildlife creates a central focus for the newly renovated Plaza
BROWARD COUNTY 1) Broward Cultural Division, in partnership with Broward County Libraries Division, announces the installation of QR
(Quick Response) codes on interior artworks located at the libraries around the County. This new feature offers
visitors and art connoisseurs the convenience of immediate access to detailed information on each of the public
art projects.
With any of several QR Code reader apps on their Smartphone, library visitors are able to scan the QR code on the
artwork and be taken directly to the Public Art & Design Tour on the Broward County website. A sign next to each
artwork gives the name and QR Code.
2) Broward County Cultural Division is one of 788 not-for-profit national, regional, state, and local organizations
nationwide to receive an NEA “Art Works” grant. Broward County, one of 16 recipients in the State of Florida,

is recommended for a $40,000 grant that will provide creative incentives and customized resources to local artists
for projects that engage artistically underserved communities and provide lifelong learning activities for youth and
adults, through the Creative Artist Advancement Program (CAAP). CAAP targets individual artists, and adults and
youth who frequent parks, libraries, human service or community centers in revitalization areas and low income
neighborhoods. The goals are to increase the number of creative artist-led projects and to provide artists with
specialized professional development that focuses on tools and techniques for working in neighborhood settings.
Project activities will include: Arts Education; Public Art Projects; and Education and Professional Development
Seminars.

Giant Aquarium with a Fishing Pier is a temporary Public Art & Design art project using graphic design and hi-
tech printed vinyl to wrap the entire shuttle fleet that transports passengers from the RCC to the terminals at
the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The artwrap design provides visitors using the shuttle with
a unified, colorful and cheerful image to welcome them to our community.
The concept for the bus came from Hoffman’s childhood scuba diving experiences in the waters of South
Florida. The underwater scenes are a composite of many different places he explored. The artist spent many
days free diving around the Anglers Fishing Pier at Commercial Boulevard, while his brother was fishing from the
pier. Hoffman believes that just a few hundred feet off of South Florida’s beaches one can find the most amazing
scenery that Florida has to offer, as well as some of its most colorful and humorous characters.

2) The City recently authorized the construction of an Atlantic Avenue Gateway Art Feature Project that is expected to
transform the City’s entrance at Atlantic Avenue and I-95 into an artistic display of Delray’s cultural heritage. The
total cost of $1,182,842 will be funded by the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency with help from
Florida Department of Transportation. Sidewalks, landscaped berms, trellises and six columns depicting artistic
designs should be completed by Spring 2013.
