WINDSOR-ESSEx REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE2011-2012 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WELCOME
JENNIFERJONESCHAIR OF THE BOARD
MATTMARCHANDPRESIDENT
I’ve had a great first two months as President & CEO of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. In my short time here, we’ve not only set a number of initiatives into play, we’ve also accomplished quite a few projects already—with even more progress on the way.
As President & CEO, I’ve been working to communicate with the membership and community more often and more effectively. We are telling our story to get the word out about how amazing the Chamber is.
I had my first “Meet the President” session at the Rotary Club meeting in April, reached out to the arts community at the ArtsVest workshops, and spoke at our Volunteer Appreciation event to let the Chamber volunteers know just how important they are to our success.
In April, the Chamber, in cooperation with Teresa Piruzza, MPP Windsor-West, brought in the Hon. Harinder Takhar, Minister of Government Services, to lead a roundtable discussion about government procurement processes. The event was standing room only with lots of great buzz surrounding it!
Our events have been taken to the next level with a sold-out After Business tradeshow at the Windsor International Airport and a spectacular night for the 22nd Annual Business Excellence Awards that still have people in awe.
Right around the corner we have some big upcoming events like our Automotive Luncheon on May 24 with featured guest speaker Dennis DesRosiers, our 76th Annual Golf Tournament on June 11, and the Chamber Ball on June 23, where we will pay tribute to the Chamber’s out-going Chair of the Board Jennifer Jones as well as Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Sandra Pupatello.
Joining the Chamber team in May is Sherri Dulcamaro, our new Manager of Sales, Retention, and Marketing. Dulcamaro, a life-long resident of the Essex County region, brings 20 years of corporate sales, marketing, and director experience to the Chamber. She has also been involved with the Chamber for more than 17 years, assisting the After Business Committee in planning over 100 Chamber events.
Next up for the Chamber—I’ll be attending and participating in the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting, and the Chamber will be taking on a leadership role to represent the business community in discussions about a potential mega hospital for Windsor.
All of these new and exciting initiatives would not be possible if it weren’t for our members, as well as our excellent and efficient Chamber staff. All of us here at the Chamber look forward to continuing to be the voice of business in Windsor-Essex.

The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce played a leadership role in preventing proposed New York State legislation from imposing stringent new requirements for international vessels using the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway system.
In 2011, the Chamber issued its Ballast Water and Trade policy and brought forward a resolution calling for a bi-national solution to the problem. The resolution was introduced by the Chamber and adopted by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce at its 2011 AGM. The Chamber has also raised the issue with federal officials.
“We are very pleased with this decision,” said David Cree, member of the Chamber’s Transportation Committee and CEO of the Windsor Port Authority, “and hope it will lead to a bi-national solution to the ballast water issue.”
The standards proposed by New York State would have required all ships discharging ballast water in New York State and ships transiting New York State waters to have the ability to clean their ballast water to a standard that is 100 times greater than International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards. According to the Windsor Port Authority, these unattainable ballast water requirements would
have impeded almost $11 billion in business revenue and up to 72,000 jobs in both Canada and the U.S.
