About the Department
The Department of Information Technology
was established in the year 2006 with 60 students.
The Department is fully equipped with high quality
laboratories. The Department consists of dedicated
and highly qualified faculty members. The
laboratories are updated with highly configured
systems and recent Technological software, which
enables to provide quality education. Students are
motivated to participate in competitive events,
National and International Conferences that are
conducted by various Organizations and Educational
Institutions. Students also visit Industries to gain
practical knowledge on application of the
technologies they learn as part of their course
curriculum. Our Department Staff and Students are
members in various Associations. We conduct several
Faculty Development Programs (FDP), Guest
Lecturers and Symposium for the benefit of students
and staffs related to the subjects with the new and
emerging concepts by the experts in that area.
Message from HOD’s desk: Welcome to the Department of Information
Technology. We started our journey in the year 2006
with 60 students.
The department of Information Technology
aspires at fostering a conductive upbringing for
education and research by use of appropriate
computing technologies. In today’s scenario every
field uses automotive technology and therefore it has
become the need of the hour to understand and work
efficiently with updated information technologies.
The department mainly equips its students with
expertise and appropriate skills in the field of
Information Technology. Students are nurtured to
become the best IT professionals or Entrepreneurs in
their own inventive way. The department offers
brilliant academic upbringing with a team of highly
qualified faculty members to instigate the students to
develop their technical skills and instill the spirit of
team work in them.
Wishing all the students a bright future in all
their future endeavors in their respective fields.
Dr M.Malleswari Professor/ Head of the Department

DATA SCIENCE RELATIONSHIP TO STATISTICS
The term "science" implies knowledge gained through
systematic study. In one definition, it is a systematic enterprise
that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable
explanations and predictions.Data science might therefore imply a
focus involving data and, by extension, statistics, or the systematic
study of the organization, properties, and analysis of data and its
role in inference, including our confidence in the inference. Why
then do we need a new term like data science when we have had
statistics for centuries? The fact that we now have huge amounts
of data should not in and of itself justify the need for a new term.
Data science is a multi-disciplinary field that uses
scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract
knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data.
Data science is the same concept as data mining and big data: "use
the most powerful hardware, the most powerful programming
systems, and the most efficient algorithms to solve problems".
5
Vol -3,Issue-2
Data science is a "concept to unify statistics, data analysis,
machine learning and their related methods" in order to
"understand and analyze actual phenomena" with data.[4] It
employs techniques and theories drawn from many fields within
the context of mathematics, statistics, computer science, and
information science. Turing award winner Jim Gray imagined data
science as a "fourth paradigm" of science (empirical, theoretical,
computational and now data-driven) and asserted that
"everything about science is changing because of the impact of
information technology" and the data deluge. In 2015, the
American Statistical Association identified database management,
statistics and machine learning, and distributed and parallel
systems as the three emerging foundational professional
communities.
"Data science" has recently become a popular term among
business executives. However, many critical academics and
journalists see no distinction between data science and statistics,
whereas others consider it largely a popular term for "data
mining" and "big data". Writing in Forbes, Gil Press argues that
data science is a buzzword without a clear definition and has
simply replaced "business analytics" in contexts such as graduate
degree programs. In the question-and-answer section of his
keynote address at the Joint Statistical Meetings of American
6

Vol -3,Issue-2
Statistical Association, noted applied statistician Nate Silver said,
"I think data-scientist is a sexed up term for a
statistician....Statistics is a branch of science. Data scientist is
slightly redundant in some way and people shouldn’t berate the
term statistician.

AMAZON WEB SERVICES (AWS)
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a subsidiary of Amazon
that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to
individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-
you-go basis. In aggregate, these cloud computing web services
provide a set of primitive abstract technical infrastructure and
distributed computing building blocks and tools. One of these
services is Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, which allows users to
have at their disposal a virtual cluster of computers, available all
the time, through the Internet. AWS's version of virtual computers
emulate most of the attributes of a real computer including,
hardware central processing units (CPUs) and graphics
processing units (GPUs) for processing, local/RAM memory, hard-
disk/SSD storage; a choice of operating systems; networking; and

pre-loaded application software such as web servers, databases,
customer relationship management (CRM), etc.
The AWS technology is implemented at server farms
throughout the world, and maintained by the Amazon subsidiary.
Fees are based on a combination of usage, the
hardware/OS/software/networking features chosen by the
subscriber, required availability, redundancy, security, and
service options. Subscribers can pay for a single virtual AWS
computer, a dedicated physical computer, or clusters of either. As
part of the subscription agreement. Amazon provides security for
subscribers' system. AWS operates from many global
geographical regions including 6 in North America.
In 2017, AWS comprised more than 90 (165 as of 2019)
services spanning a wide range including computing, storage,
networking, database, analytics, application services, deployment,
management, mobile, developer tools, and tools for the Internet of
Things. The most popular include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud
(EC2) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Most
services are not exposed directly to end users, but instead offer
functionality through APIs for developers to use in their
applications. Amazon Web Services' offerings are accessed over
HTTP, using the REST architectural style and SOAP protocol.
8
Vol -3,Issue-2
Vol -3,Issue-2
Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is a commercial cloud
computing service that provides users a virtual private cloud, by
"provision a logically isolated section of Amazon Web Services
(AWS) Cloud". Enterprise customers are able to access the
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) over an IPsec based virtual
private network. Unlike traditional EC2 instances which are
allocated internal and external IP numbers by Amazon, the
customer can assign IP numbers of their choosing from one or
more subnets. By giving the user the option of selecting which
AWS resources are public facing and which are not, VPC provides
much more granular control over security. For Amazon it is "an

endorsement of the hybrid approach, but it's also meant to
combat the growing interest in private clouds".
