JULY NEWSLETTER 2013 YEAR 11 LEAVERSGOODBYE & GOOD LUCK This year we are saying goodbye to 6 pupils who are all going on to further education at Sir Tom Finney Community High School, Mayfield Special School, The Loyne School & West Lancashire Community High School. During her time at Hillside, Lizzie has become more confident and her self-esteem is much improved. In her final year, Lizzie has been on a residential visit to Whitehough & did her work ex- perience, gardening at Self Unlimited in Samlesbury. Sana has been a school milk monitor for the last two years and she has enjoyed working in the school office. During her work experience placement at Booths supermarket in Longridge, Sana replenished stock on the shop floor. Chris has been helping at the Old Station Cafe in Longridge for his work experience, Edward was working on the shop floor in Sains- burys and Joey has been helping our cook in the school kitchen, helping to prepare food for the pupil & staff meals. Edward has been at Hillside since 2005 and for his work placement he went to Ribble Farm Fare to help prepare vegetables for delivery. Edward, Chris & Edward all went on a residential trip to London in year 10 and Ed- ward and Chris have recently been to York. Both Sana and Lizzie have achieved the Asdan Transition Challenge Award while Joey will leave school with the Bronze AS- DAN Award. Chris, Edward & Edward will all leave with the Silver ASDAN Award. When asked what they have liked about Hillside, heres what they said: “Hillside is a good school, I have enjoyed drawing and books”; “I like Beacon Fell Mister Softee wafer cone”; “Hillside’s been my best time and its good here” and “I have enjoyed science most at HillsideWe will miss them all but we wish them good luck in their new schools and for the future. We would like to thank Tony & Dawn Mitchell for

all their work in producing a Christmas Charity

Song with all profits going to Hillside & Autism Aware-

ness. Their son Danny attends school and Tony is a

singer/songwriter & producer from Fleetwood who has

written a “real” Christmas anthem. Other local musi-

cians have contributed to produce “Christmas Time”.

DRESS UP & DANCE DAY—in aid of Macmillan Cancer Sup-

port. Held on Friday 21st June we raised a fantastic £120.50

by coming to school in our favourite dancing outfits.

And finally............ It has been a very successful year and I am proud to have

worked with a fantastic student and staff community who have worked ex-

tremely hard to achieve their targets, We had a successful OFSTED Inspection this

year, it seems such a long time ago. We do still check Parent View for your views, but

there are no new reviews since our Inspection. The link is on the school website.

We are having a lot of building works, new carpets, painting etc over the holidays. We

will be having everything crossed that it is all finished by the time we all return in

September.

(TA) who had a baby girl last month.

We say hello to the following new staff members from September:

Helen Willett (Deputy Headteacher); Neil Gregson (teacher); Rachel Fogg (teacher);

we are also in the process of recruiting 3 new TA3’s and a new welfare.

School re-opens on Monday 9th September for all pupils

There will be another Bag2school collection of unwanted clothing/shoes/soft toys on September 25th.

We have joined with Preston North End FC over the forthcoming

year to provide pupils with 100% attendance FREE tickets to a

Preston North End home game.

2 tickets per pupil will be allocated on a termly basis (1 adult & 1 child) and

a certificate at the end of the year to those with full attendance.
