To those we love…Remembering Mae Lauricella, Marie Vallely, and Joe Lauricella

I often talkabout how we are a com-munity. In April,we lost threemembers of our community

who were siblings. Their roots were in Edgewater, andtheir imprint is left on the hearts of those who sharedtime with them at our luncheons.

Mae and Marie greeted you at our check-in table foryears. Mae volunteered for 14 years, hardly missing aluncheon. She often told me it made her happy to helpprovide a happy time for so many people. Marie attendedour luncheons for many years, and began volunteeringsix years ago. Like Mae, she was happy to help. She wastremendously courageous and persevered through manytrials, sustained by the love of family and friends.

Their brother Joe, a long-time member, made many ofus smile with his terrific sense of humor. He loved allthings Italian, the Chicago Cubs, the Bears, antiques, and dogs. Joey is survived by his devoted companion,Sandy Ross, another of our volunteers. Our hearts goout to her.

I can hardly believe they are all gone in such a close period of time. My grief is slightly lessened in knowinghow fortunate I’ve been, and we all have been, havingthem as part of our community. Our heartfelt condo-lences go to their brother Leonard (who sang at ourluncheons in the early days) and their sister, Jessie North. The strength, kindness, and love of the Lauricella family is a gift to Edgewater. Thank you for making our world a better place.

With love and gratitude,Kathy Bavaro
