Inspiring Care Leads to Inspiring Kids At 20 weeks, when Melanie went to have an ultrasound, she didn’t want to find out if she was having a boy or a girl; she just wanted to hear that she had a healthy baby. Unfortunately, that is not what she heard. Melanie and her husband Ben, learned that their baby had a congenital heart defect. At this point, they were in shock and panicked, but the skilled team of doctors and nurses at Advocate Children’s Hospital talked them through their options. They also helped develop a plan, so they knew exactly what to do when their baby arrived. When their son, Luke, was born the congenital heart defect, it caused an insufficient amount of blood to get to his lungs. When he was nine days old, he had a shunt placed in his heart to provide blood flow to the lungs. At nine months, he had to undergo his first open-heart surgery. His parents said that it was immediately apparent that this little guy was a fighter. Within days of his second surgery, he was eating and more importantly, he was smiling. He is now five years old and teaching everyone around him how to live life to the fullest. To see Luke’s Inspiring Kids video click here. NetPresenter Launches We are launching NetPresenter at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children’s Hospital— Park Ridge over the next few weeks. Inspiring Care Leads to Inspiring Kids

At 20 weeks, when Melanie went to have an ultrasound, she didn’t want to find out if she was having a boy or a girl; she just wanted to hear that she had a healthy baby. Unfortunately, that is not what she

heard.

NetPresenter Launches We are launching NetPresenter at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children’s Hospital—Park Ridge over the next few weeks. At the beginning of each week, NetPresenter will push out the week’s important leadership messages, news and events happening across the organization. Be The Match® Twenty individuals from Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children’s Hospital-Park Ridge signed with Be The Match®. Additional individuals took home the information for consideration. The event held in July was to recruit individuals to help those with life-threatening blood cancers—like leukemia and lymphoma—or other diseases. Be The Match® connects patients with their donor match for a life-saving marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant. The Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant program at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is currently expanding and building a more comprehensive transplant program.

Copy Center Changes On Friday, August 1st, the LGH Copy Center will be closing. The services currently provided by the Copy Center will be available through our own Advocate Printing Services in Mt. Prospect. Printing Services has the expert staff and advanced print/copy equipment to meet all our printing and copying needs and expectations. This initiative is an opportunity to streamline processes, eliminate redundant services and fully utilize existing resources, while reducing cost. Currently, maintaining a copy center at a few of our sites is costing Advocate over $500,000 annually. Below is the link that we will use to place requests with the Printing Services department: http://demandtrack.advocatehealth.com/copycenter/
