Charlotte Reports. . .What a great meet. The first one put on by the Int. I want topersonally thank the meet committee and especially EdSkomoroh the meet chairman for all of their hard work. Ed dida tremendous job, along with the local chapter chairman's andall of their volunteers. As always the workers don't get muchof a chance to enjoy but we the members who attended suredo. Last but not least, I want to thank Jean for all the help shegave Ed. Like all the International meets they had great tours. The hostchapter put on the best fun night that I have been too, funnight was for all ages, the kids really enjoy themselves, and sodid the adults. International meets are a great way to have a vacation, notonly do you have good to do, but great people are there, andthey become your 1 week friends. Hope to see you inSpokane next year. I almost forget you also get to see lots ofgreat Studebakers. Maynard and Joan Lemke

More Chisholm Cruise DetailsFrom Denny Borich - Hey Maynard: Here is the information onthe campground here in Chisholm. It is called the Iron Trail RVPark & Campground and is located right next door to theMuseum of Mining where we will stage the cars & have ourpicnic on Sunday. It is real nice with all the amenities: Electric, water & sewerhook-ups; a dump station; laundry facilities; and is very close(short walk) to a good eating place, a Dairy Queen, and a gasstation/convenience store. Rates are reasonable: $16.00 forElectric & Water -- $18.00 for everything hook-up. The nice owners checked their calendar for me and theredoesn't appear to be any big event going on that weekend,so there are openings. They told me that one or two nightstays shouldn't be a problem, but you never know.

I think it would be a good idea for those interested to make areservation. Their number is 1-800-711-7789

I talked with Steve Spicer at the Car Museum and they will beexpecting our group on the 31st of July. He may even park acouple of his old cars at the Museum of Mining on Sunday. We'll see. . . Also: I've been working with the Chisholm Chamber ofCommerce and they will see if they can arrange for a specialroped-off parking area on main street outside Valentini'sSupper Club Sat. evening. Not only would it provide ameasure of safety for our cars, but it would also serve as a minicar show for the local citizens while we are dining atValentini's. Afterwards, of course, we will parade up & downthe main drag and go "crusin" the Iron Range.

What the heck is BENCH RACING?. . . . Bench Racing is not racing your car on a workbench or racing your workbench on the drag strip. (although that would beinteresting). Bench racing goes on in car clubs everywhere...all you need is a couple of people, some classic cars, a fewcold ones and there you have a bench racing session. Where the bull never stops....

Who Bench races? Anyone who builds, drives, works on, plays with, owns, and loves cars. But beware at some benchracing sessions the bull can be pretty heavy and the friendly insults can be many. So be prepared....but all this is themaking of a good session full of laughs, fun, interesting stories and most important: bragging rights....

We are going to try to set some Bench Racing dates. But because weekends are so busy with other events and familythey will be set on week nights to start (Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays). Generally they’ll run from 6-9 pm±,(depending upon the sponsor) so you’ll be able to get home, have dinner, attend to family and then cruise on over. Outof Metro Club Members should give this a try so you can meet some of your Studebaker Club neighbors in GreaterMinnesota. The most common Bench Racing place is in someone's garage or shop, Where cars and the parts arescattered about, One can see this is the best environment because you are in the place where it all begins andhappens. There are no requirements on Bench Racing hosts and meetings can be in garages, on patios, backyards, inyour shop, local parks, drive-ins, etc. You as host pick the spot where the folks will show up. You decide what theagenda will be. It will be cool to have a bunch of Studebakers pull up to your house in an evening. You don’t have todrive your Studebaker but a Bench Racing event is an “excuse to drive” your Studebaker!

So if you know about Bench Racing, (or did not), and want to sponsor a session contact me with your possible dates andwe’ll try to put it on a schedule. Looking for dates in August, September and October. Those members with heatedgarages/shops think about the Fall & Winter months. Let me hear from you by phone or email and we’ll set it up. . . .
