PRAYERS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND THE MILITARY: Every Friday, we say the Patriotic Rosary after the 9:00 Morning Mass. If you have a family member in the military and would like us to pray for them by name, please e-mail Mary Sorrentino at [email protected] with their name, branch of service and, if you like, a photo.

Freedom: A well-rounded school gives students freedom to recognize their capabilities and individual potentials. Something as little as putting toys away to helping set the placements for snack time can build good character that will last a lifetime. At the Day School, we foster an atmosphere where thinking, questioning, and imagining are encouraged while enhancing understanding, empathy, and communication skills. Preschool is your students’ introduction into the education system; while it is fun and engaging for the children it is an important responsibility for both parents and teachers.Holy Family Day School accepts students age 2 1/2 (toilet trained) through Kindergarten. With Freedom comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes understanding. We will work to engage your children in a warm, caring, structured environment to help them understand how important they are in the world.

Do You Know What Your Elementary School Student is Doing After School? Holy Family Day School has a great program limited to 20 students for after school care. Students attending John B. Dey, Trantwood, or Alanton Elementary school may ride a VBCPS bus to Holy Family. The program is structured to include play-ground time, snack time, homework time, centers, and other activities.

School Information: If you have any questions or would like to take a tour of our school, please call 481-1180. Helpful information can be found on our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org.

Summer Fun: We wish all our students (past and present), their families, and all who are reading this bulletin, a very safe and happy summer. During the summer, the Day School Office hours are somewhat varied. If you wish to contact Cindy Girard or Laurie Powers to set up an appointment, drop off paperwork, or have any questions at all, please call or email the school.

Box Tops For Education: Box Top collection is a year-round program and we are so pleased with the excellent response to this fund raiser for the school. The box outside the welcome office is the place to drop off your collection.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS The Knights of Columbus are beginning a new year and we want to thank all the parishioners who supported us last year. Each month, the Knights pick a Knight and a family of the month. For the month of June, we have chosen all the Knights who helped with the Parish Community Fair for the Knight of the Month. For the Family of the Month, we have chosen all the Parishioners who helped with the Fair.

On Saturday, August 8, after the 5:30 p.m. Mass, we will be having a Barbecue dinner (stay or take out); and then in September we will have our wonderful Marvino Italian Dinner with special guest Chef Marvino. There will be more details coming on these events and others.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY – FOOD PANTRY FOOD DRIVE: Many of the families we serve rely on our schools to feed their children two meals a day. Children go hungry every day during the summer months. We will have a “Christmas in July Food Drive.” Flyers will be on the chairs in the church this weekend (July 11/12). Please bring in extra food the weekend of July 18/19 for our Food Pantry so that we can help feed the hungry of our community. We cannot do this without your generous support.

Three Quick Thoughts on Evangelization“Our Lord’s first word to His disciples was ‘come!’ His last word was ‘go!’ You can’t ‘go’ unless you’ve first ‘come’ to Him.” – Archbishop Fulton Sheen

“The New Evangelization is accomplished with a smile, not a frown.” – Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

“People say, what is the sense of our small effort? They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time, take one step at a time. A pebble cast into a pond causes ripples that spread in all directions. Each one of our thoughts, words, and deeds is like that. No one has a right to sit down and feel hopeless. There is too much work to do.” – Dorothy Day.

FOOD PANTRY UPDATE

Do you have the Food Pantry habit? Consider bringing a contribution for our shelves WEEKLY. Pick up an item from our list when you do your own grocery shopping or stock up for us when you see a sale. Our Food Pantry serves on the last Saturday of the month as well as on an as-needed basis throughout the month. We depend on your generosity to provide help to our neighbors. This week we are asking for BREAKFAST foods: Pancake Mix, Syrup, Canned Fruit, Oatmeal, and Breakfast Cereal.

BULLETIN: The deadline for bulletin notices is Mondays at 9:30 a.m. Please submit to Carla, the Parish Secretary. Any inserts will need to be digital as everything is emailed to the publishing company.

NATIONAL VOCATIONS AWARENESS: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” If you think you may be called to serve Jesus as a priest, deacon, or in the consecrated life, consider the power of His grace at work in you. Call Father Michael Boehling at 804-359-5661 or e-mail at [email protected].

“CARE FOR OUR EARTH” Recycling, along with reuse, reduce, and repair, was among the practices we initially were encouraged to engage in to preserve our environment.

Simple as what one would think, recycling, however, does make demands on us: we have to think to do it: we have to take a moment or so to reasonably clean the item; then, we need to locate the recycling container, which may not be right at hand. On the other hand, the benefits of recycling are: Co2 in our atmosphere is reduced; the amount of waste thrown into our landfills is decreased; the recycled materials eliminate some of the steps in the production of merchandise; there is an increase in jobs. The satisfaction of knowing that we are being responsible stewards, caring for our earth, can outweigh the demands recycling makes on us. The few moments required to recycle contribute to the preservation of our earth. Keep these points in mind when you attend events where recycling is available, whether they be Church related or otherwise.

FYI: The public libraries in Virginia Beach do accept batteries for recycling.
