News from our Local Covenant Churches
Gold Coast North Anglican Church
On September 18th Coomera Anglican Church will begin a new 10 am Worship Service.
This is a family friendly time and an exciting new celebration for our Anglican community.
New Life – Pacific Pines
This Sunday, the day after Family Fun Day, join in worship in the Jubilee Hall. The service
begins at 9.30 am.
St Mary’s Catholic Community
Fr. Antony has started his annual leave earlier than expected due to his mother‘s ill health.
We wish him a safe journey and ask that you keep Fr. Antony‘s mother and family in your
prayers during this difficult time. Fr. Antony will return as scheduled in late October.
Visiting priests have been arranged to cover weekend Masses, Wednesday evening Mass
and Baptisms.
For any funeral arrangements please contact the Parish office during office hours on 5510
2222.
On Thursday and Friday mornings Mass will be replaced by a Communion Service. Sr.
Francine, Neil Rogers and Stanley Chinia have been formally appointed by the Archbishop
to carry out this role.
Frank and Karin Olson have kindly offered to assist the visiting Priests with any of their
needs. Maggie Moodley will continue her coordinating role at Jubilee Sunday evening
Masses.
In the Spirit of cooperation we feel that with many helping hands, we can carry on the Lord‘s
work in our Parish in the absence of Fr. Antony. Many parishioners are involved in
numerous ministries; we are grateful to them and know that they will continue in their
different ministries.
With God‘s blessing, if we all pull together as a community ‗all will be well‘.
(For an emergency & the parish office is unstaffed, please contact Fr. Peter Dillion at
Southport Parish: 55102222.)
Peace and all good,
Sr. Francine and Helena McKenna.

G’day from the APA
G’day everyone! Welcome to Week 9.
Dave’s Principal Renewal Leave: Our fearless leader is now safely ensconced in Dragonland (Wollongong.) I spoke to
Dave a couple of times yesterday and he sends his best wishes to everyone. On his Principal‘s Renewal Leave, Dave is
totally in his element, shadowing the great Wayne Bennett as he prepares the Dragons for their semi-final against the
Sydney Roosters this Friday in Sydney. From what Dave has told me, Wayne Bennett is including Dave in all aspects of
his role and he has informed Dave that he will be staying with the team in their Sydney hotel and travelling with them on
the team bus etc up to and including the game !
While we can (and will) joke about the footy fan aspects of this experience for Dave, the reality is that it is a once-in-a-
lifetime, money-can‘t-buy opportunity for Dave, as a school leader and mentor, to witness, interact with and gain insight
from a man who is widely recognized and acknowledged as a great motivator, manager and mentor of individuals and
builder of successful group cultures. I am sure that Dave will return to us, bursting with insights and ideas that will benefit
our Jubilee staff , students and families (and if the Dragons go on to make the final, I‘m sure he‘ll claim some credit for that
as well !!)
BCE Senior Leadership Conference: Last Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 August, Trevor Sketcher and I attended the
BCE Senior Leadership Conference at Surfer‘s Paradise. This was the first time that APAs, APREs and Heads of Primary
(P-12 schools) from both Brisbane North and South have attended a conference together. We listened to some excellent
Keynote Speakers and participated in some worthwhile workshops, but, just as importantly, we had the opportunity to
network with our counterparts from other schools to share issues and ideas. You‘ll be happy to know that Trevor survived
my snoring and his hearing has returned to full function !
Fathers’ Day: Happy Father‘s Day to all our Dads, Grand-dads and Father-figures for last Sunday. I hope you all had the
opportunity to share some quality time with your loved ones. I had a great day which included some time with my four adult
children and their partners and my two beautiful grand-children, Isabelle and Jacob. I‘d like to acknowledge and thank the
P&F mums who organised and operated our Fathers‘ Day stall last Wednesday and Thursday—thanks ladies !
“Conundrum”, the musical : I had the pleasure yesterday of seeing first hand the great work being done with our
students each Monday afternoon in our magnificent MPC. Mr Parry and his team of staff and parent helpers are providing
an excellent opportunity for Jubilee students through this musical at our school. I‘d like to acknowledge the time effort and
commitment of Mr Parry, other staff and the students with regard to this event and can‘t wait to see it on opening night.
Yr 6&7 Hub Days: This week our Yrs 6&7 students have their ―Hub Days‖ which are part of an alternative program of
exciting elective activities undertaken by our senior students. With this in mind, the Yr 6/7 program will operate
predominantly in the MPC and precincts tomorrow and Thursday. We wish our Yr 6&7 students all the best for this
program.
Family Fun Day: I‘m sure I don‘t need to tell you that this Saturday we have our fantastic Jubilee Family Fun Day for
2011. Our terrific planning committee and many wonderful convenors have done a great job in preparation and now all we
need is a fine day to make it complete. I look forward to seeing you there !
Special School Focus: With the term coming to a close and the holidays approaching, it is probably a good time to be
reminding our students about safe choices and safe practices , so our final Special School Focus for Term 3 will be:
―At school or home ; at work or play
Make safe choices throughout the day.”
This includes safe choices about activities around the home, travel to and from school, play and free time at school,
activities in the classroom, safe movement around the school, access to and use of electronic devices, media and inter-
net etc.
Parent Parking, Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders: Binstead Way Entrance and Manra Way Roundabout Parking
Please do not stop in or near the Manra Way roundabout or in front of the top entrance gate.
Please do not enter the top entrance to drop off or pick up students.
Please do not park along the bike lane in Binstead Way near the bottom entrance.
Please do not park in the top car park or the car park adjacent to the MPC.
Please use the footpaths and crossings when walking students to or from school.
Have a great Week 9, everyone!
Regards,
Brian Mason.

Having a relationship …. with God
The following paragraphs are adapted from a book I am reading at the moment: The Practice of Spiritual Direction by
William Barry & William Connolly. It is a reminder of the longing for the deep, for wholeness, for what we ought to be…that
subtle spiritual longing of the heart.
What do we mean by ―relationship with God‖? We mean something that is, first of all. It is established by the creation of
human beings and exists even when we are unaware of its existence. I am a creature whether I know it or not, and God is
my creator. God knows me as son or daughter even when I do not know God as Father. Jesus knows me as his brother
or sister even when I am unaware of this bond. However, anyone who does not know his or her father, mother, brothers,
or sisters suffers from a lack that will probably show itself in some way in his or her consciousness. One may experience it
as rootlessness, or as a sense of being radically alone, or as a sense of being lost. So, too, the lack of awareness of the
God who is in relationship with us may show itself in consciousness. The fear of being left alone with all our fears,
unfulfilled hopes, and self-doubt is a fear many of us seem to experience at times. Most of us do not express it often, but it
influences us nonetheless. The lack may also show itself positively in the yearning some people express for contact with a
deeper level of life that they cannot name.
Our faith tells us that God communicates with us whether we know it or not by continuously creating, sustaining and
offering redemption to us. God shares personally with us even when we do not know that this sharing is happening. Life
itself communicates God to us. The first crocus communicates the indomitability of life. Sunsets tell us of grandeur.
Friendship communicates to us the experience of loyalty and love. Blizzards and hurricanes impose on us the
consciousness that the ordering of nature is ultimately outside our control. The harnessing of nuclear energy makes us
aware that there is no limit to our ability to explore and exploit our universe, and nuclear accidents make us aware that we
cannot perfectly control what we have discovered…and then there is Jesus.
Come talk with God
Come talk with God with other parents on Monday mornings between 8.30am and 9.00am in the Meeting Room in the
Jubilee Hall. Don‘t worry if you can‘t get there for the start, and bring your little ones along; children are welcome.
Kind regards,
Trevor Sketcher
Assistant Principal Religious Education

Book Covering!
Looking for a way to fill that spare time you have? Why not help out and cover books for the Resource Centre. We have
hundreds of resources we would love to get in the hands of the children, unfortunately they need to be covered first.
Please see Mrs Fen if you can dedicate any time to help.

Afternoon Tea Invitation to all parents of Diverse Learners
At Jubilee we recognise that the journey along the way is not always smooth for students, as well as their parents, as you
aim to support your children, particularly those students that have a diagnosis of an Impairment, a Learning Difficulty or is
visiting an outside professional (e.g. an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist). The journey that you embark on
when it has been identified that your child will need additional support is one that is unpredictable, filled with emotion and
at times seems like a lengthy, ongoing process.
If you are a parent that would like an opportunity to chat to other parents that may be going through or have gone through
the experience that you have, regarding a child with Diverse Learning Needs, then please come along to our first After-
noon Tea for Parents of Diverse Learners. Support staff at Jubilee, such as Support Teacher: Inclusive Education (Disa
Hill), Guidance Counsellor (David Higgins) and Administration staff look forward to hosting this gathering and continuing it
into the future, offering the support to our community.
