MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

The amount of freedom we get is always directly proportional to our personal commitment to education. The more education we

have, the more freedom we get. The fear of losing our freedom will always lead us to the joy of keeping our freedom. Education and

freedom do not come to those who want them, but to those who look for them. It is not about how we are going to be free but about

how we are going to learn to be free. Freedom is about having choices and education will give you the power to choose. At Juarez

-Lincoln ACE, we understand. After all, we all were teenagers once. We know that many of the things you count on don’t count,

but the things you don’t count on are the ones that count. There is a fine line between freedom and lack of restrictions. As long as we

do not affect the freedom of others, freedom is to do whatever we want. Freedom is similar to success.

When you go from failure to failure and never give up you are free. Is freedom real

or is it just a dream? You just have to look up at the sky on a clear night, stare at the

stars for a few seconds, and you will realize that freedom, like God, really does

exist! We know it’s not that simple, but it is

worth a try.

Mario Troncoso, JL Ace Principal

SPEECHLESS’ INTRODUCTION

Speechless is Jurarez-Lincoln ACE’s creative writing & art magazine. This is an

opportunity for JL ACE to showcase its artists. Art is subjective and means

something different to every person. It is in a constant state of change, so you can

never really pin down what it is other than thought provoking.

Freedom: Philosophy. the power to exercise choice and make decisions without

constraint from within or without; autonomy; self-determination.

Speechless would like to thank Mr. M. Troncoso again for letting us

express ourselves through this magazine, along with the entire massive

JL ACE English and Art Departments for continuing to introduce JL

ACE artists to our community.

“Thank you for helping set our aspirations free.” J-L ACE

Cracking Mexican

Look at me

What do you see

A young Mexican

Smoking crack out of a can

Getting arrested

Usually when I’m wasted

But you don’t see

When I cry myself to slee—p

I wish it was me

In the land of the free

And now dreams

They just can’t be.

Orgullo

Escapé buscando libertad

Miré hacia arriba y encontré soledad

Me tiran abajo y reboto

Quién suele pensar que puede conmigo,

Es solo un tonto

Pobre loco

Ahora, yo miro hacia arriba

Con orgullo de ser

Crazy Mexico

RIGHT NOW WITH ALL THIS CRAZYNESS

IN MEXICO WITH THE SHOOTINGS,

KILLING, GANGS, CARTELS AND A

LOT OF OTHER THINGS, IT’S PRETTY

SCARY BECAUSE ALL THE VIOLENCE

IS POURING OUT INTO THE U.S. AND IT’S

RIDICULOUS FOR ANYONE LIVING BY THE

BORDER. IT’S TERRIFYING FOR ME

BECAUSE I HAVE NO FAMILY HERE

SO IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO

MY PARENTS I WOULDNT HAVE

ANYONE TO GO TO SINCE EVERYONE

IN MY FAMILY LIVES IN UTAH. IN MY

NEIGHBORHOOD GUNSHOTS GO OFF

JUST ABOUT EVERYDAY AND THERE ARE

GANGS EVERYWHERE SO WE END UP

STAYING HOME MOST OF THE DAY

REALLY BAD. by Azeret Sainz

My Confort

Why do I see everything black and white?

The world left me behind, lost and confused.

Why can’t someone get me out of this night?

They tried their best, b

ut I always refused

I’ve seen a beautiful white seraphim

That comforts me through my rainy showers.

He knows and feels the troubles I’v

e been in.

My surprise was a beautiful flower.

My world has changed from darkness to vivid.

I’ve seen how much the world left me behind.

I’ve learned not to be hateful and livid.

Happiness is found in frie

ndship so kind.

For when I felt m

y soul was in tatters

You are my comfort; nothing else matters.

Vivir Libre

Me quisiste,

Yo te amé,

Me negaste,

Me quebraste,

Me escojí

Y te perseguí

te conquisté

te cuidé

Y luego

te dejé

Aunque te amé

Como lo hiciste tú

Pero aún lloré

by Fernando Ramirez

Lo Tuyo

Tus sueños para mí son el paraíso

Tu Mirada es el cielo

Tus disgustos, mis pecados

Tus besos, mi pasión

Tus caricias, mis secretos

Tu pecho, mi estancia

Y te amo

Urban Art: A Way to Free Your Mind

Urban art, bEtter known as ‚graffiti,‛ is thought to be vandalism, a way for ganGs and crews to

mark their territOry. People see them as delinquents escaping at night to be rebellious ‚big shots‛.

With some crews they are somewhat right, but what they don’t know is some kIds that sneak out of

their rooms do it to see the world in a different perSpective.

Urban ArtisTs have passion for it. The ones tHat don’t just want to find a stop sign to put a ‚tag‛

on or a local businEss to drop a ‘bomb‛ on. No, they go under a bridge, a burned up building, or an

old abandoned building. These are the places that have been forgOtten and which the state either

doesn’t waNt to waste money knocking down or rebuilding.

The artists look for thEse buildings to free their mind and express how they feel. For example,

say the artist is sad, disappointed, or mad; they could take it out with paint. The mural will be dark

and scary with intense colors as if you were in hell! If the artist is glad, excited, or just plain happy,

he will express how he feels with light bright vivid colors as if you were in heaven!

Yes, at first I was dropping bombs, but now I don’t even focus on walls. I focus on paper and

canvass.

Behind every mural there is a story. What’s your story?

Bolis de Bala I used to spend every weekend in Mexico.

Helando mis labios y manos Sin preocupación alguna.

Pregúntame si lo vuelvo a hacer.

No creo que un helado valga una bala

Whatever

Freedom means that I can do whatever

I want

that I have the right to say what I want... when

I want.

In my mother’s house:

Why can’t I come home at 4 a.m. from the club?

Why can’t my boyfriend sleepover?

I want

to know why?

I want

this freedom you speak of.

Can I earn this “freedom”?

It’s impossible.

What Freedom?

Freedom? ¿Que freedom? What freedom?

We don’t have freedom.

Now there are a lot of killers.

Mexicans? We can’t even go to visit family because we’re

scared that we could be killed, car jacked, or kidnapped.

There’s no more freedom in Mexico.

There’s more violence and crime. There’s no

more peace like in olden times.

I miss Mexico. It was taken away. By Juan Caudillo

Actually

I’m not s

we please. People are gettin

for trying to

express their r

Now you can’t even go to

the carnival

without s

Especially in

Mexico

where people are getting sh

Senses

The sensations that I feel being close to

her are truly strange for me. I love

being with her, seeing her, feeling her,

listening to her, smelling her aroma.

It’s something beautiful. Tasting her

kisses that taste of the finest wine. She

looks like the most gorgeous and

brilliant stars. When she gets close to

me I can smell her aroma as my

favorite perfume. I can’t stop caressing

her rose petal soft skin when she’s near.

I’ve never actually touched them, but I

can imagine that she is better still.

Listening to her voice I feel as if I hear

her singing, “Te Quiero”.

This is strange to me only because it all

happens in just seconds. She floods my

senses. How can my senses have such

a powerful effect on me?

By Eddie Velazquez

I love to talk, don’t you know.

But don’t say much.

I love to laugh, don’t you know.

But nothing is amusing.

I love to get my own way, don’t you know.

Whatever it takes.

The rules don’t apply to me, don’t you know.

I love my sunglasses, don’t you know.

But there’s no sun.

I love to be loud, don’t you know.

But no one listens.

I love to be noticed, don’t you know.

But I’m transparent.

I love to fly, don’t you know.

Forget Her

Do you ever think about me?

Do you ever cry yourself to sleep?

In the middle of the night

Are you calling out my name?

Forget her,

By Priscilla Lopez, Pilli, Inspired by a publication

from an unknown author.

With You

How should I be with you

To let you know

That’s where I want to be?

How shall I let you know

I see your face glow

When you catch me

Searching your eyes

Everything vanishes?

You and I

An eye for an eye

How should I explain this,

That your lips are my source of life?

Don’t know if I would live forever or die

Once our lips lock

Would I lose my life

Or gain a wife?

Time

I look in the mirror and see the real me

Behind bars killing time but will time kill me?

The clock keeps moving but I stay behind

I look at the time I can’t stop it

Fast forward, nor press rewind

Be silent and listen to the clock as it ticks and tocks

What would you say or ask time if it were able to speak?

No remorse nor pity, solid like stone lying on solid ground

I won’t attempt to fight time because it’ll beat me every

round

My eyes feeling sore by the tears I done shed

Tired of all the fake and real my eyes done read

You and many more against time will loose

Too much stress in this life that with time it will bruise
