Text: Psalm 105:43-45

Page 2: Joy and gladness

43 He brought out His people with joy, His chosen ones with gladness. 44 He gave them the lands of the Gentiles, And they inherited the labor of the nations, 45 That they might observe His statutes. And keep His laws.

Theme: Joy and Gladness

Introduction

Page 3: Joy and gladness

SON: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”DAD: “Yeah sure, what is it?”SON: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”DAD: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?”SON: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”DAD: “If you must know, I make $100 an hour.”

Page 4: Joy and gladness

SON: “Oh! (With his head down).SON: “Daddy, may I please borrow $50?”

The father was furious.DAD: “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for such this childish behavior.” The little boy

quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 50 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the

door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

DAD: “Are you asleep, son?”SON: “No daddy, I’m awake”.DAD: “I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier. It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $50 you asked for.”The little boy sat straight up, smiling.

Page 7: Joy and gladness

SON: “Oh, thank you daddy!”

Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

DAD: “Why do you want more money if you already have some?”

Page 8: Joy and gladness

SON: “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do. “Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness. It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with

Page 9: Joy and gladness

those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $100 worth of your time with someone you love? If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family and friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.

Some things in life are more important….

Why God brought out His People from Egypt with Joy and Gladness!

Problems that waits on them!

What are these problems?1: Physical- Danger, Hunger, Sickness2: Emotional- murmur, Opposition3: Spiritual- makes other god’s

My Missionary friend told me their story he said,

“One day my wife cindy, refueled our car at a filling station in a Texas town. Instead of driving up to the self-service pump, she accidentally pulled up to full-service. She didn’t realize the luxury service cost an

Page 12: Joy and gladness

extra fifty cents per gallon until she paid for the gas. Later she told me how the station had hiked the prices on full-service. That extra fifty cents per gallon surely has to be a violation of some federal law, I thought. I quickly calculated that the extra seven dollars she spent on full-service would have taken our vehicle 128.33 miles farther down the road if she had bought self-service gas. The “full-service gas station robbery” had me fuming for several

hours.  As I was mulling over this terrible injustice, God showed me what I had done.

I had sold my joy for seven dollars! I never realized how cheaply I would surrender something so valuable. Just as Esau exchanged his birthright for a bowl of soup, I exchanged my joy for seven dollars’ worth of gas.

Lessons!

Do not exchange what are more important in life when Physical, Emotional and Spiritual problems will come!

Who will experience this Joy and gladness?

Page 15: Joy and gladness

43 He brought out His people with joy, His chosen ones with gladness.

How certain we are, that God wants us to be happy?

44 He gave them the lands of the Gentiles, and they inherited the labor of the nations,

What are the purpose why God sustain our Joy?

• 45 That they might observe His statutes. And keep His laws.

Conclusion

A passerby noticed a couple of city workers working along the city sidewalks.

Page 17: Joy and gladness

The man was quite impressed with their hard work, but he couldn't understand what they were doing. Finally, he approached the workers and asked, "I appreciate how hard you're both working, but what on earth are you doing? It seems that one of you digs a hole, and then the other guy immediately fills it back up again. One of the city workers explained, "The third guy who plants the trees is off sick today."

Application

God’s blessingsNever fail, it always comes on a right

time, right place, and right occasions.

“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.”
