From the Board Well, we lived to see another year and another decade pass into memory. May this new year and new decade bring us amazing opportunities in our lives for joy and growth and new memories. We have old joys and memories, too. Some are framed by our CC&Rs, Bylaws and Owner-Tenant Manuals, which spell out the rules and regulations that we must all abide by. If you have any questions about those rules, please contact Mills Management and they will assist you with clarification. Here are some suggestions for the new year:

➢ Read information that the HOA sends, either by regular mail, email, newsletter or bulletin board.

➢ Be a better neighbor by understanding the use restrictions and rules that we all must follow.

➢ Find ways to enhance our community and talk it over with a Committee or Board member.

➢ Participate in all member votes; returning the ballot counts as participation. The Board and Committee Members work hard to keep our community clean. Lately we’re seeing more and more dog poop being left on the ground. PLEASE pick up after your dog(s), and if you’re unable to bend over to pick up their waste, our local pet stores have pooper scoopers that can be purchased for that purpose. Extended handles mean less reaching and bending. The Landscape Committee would like to remind all of us regarding the Landscape rules in the Owner-Tenant Manual, section VII:

✓ Homeowners own the land on which their residence stands. All other land in the Association is the common area.

✓ Owners and residents may not alter the landscape in any part of the common area (which includes front and rear flowerbeds and between the garage and walkway).

✓ Any plantings made by an owner or a resident in HOA common areas may be removed by the HOA at homeowners’ expense.

✓ If you would like planting changes made around your home, fill out a Landscape Request form (located online or in the Clubhouse) and present it to the Landscape Committee. They will take that request under consideration and notify you of their decision.

The next Board meeting is February 18th, 2020. We hope to see you there!

COMMUNITY DINNER

Our December community dinner was a Holiday fest complete with good food and great

entertainment. It all started with a bit of happy hour cheer, followed by a pot roast and

veggies, green beans, rolls, Caesar salad, and black forest cake fest. Then the Holiday

harmony flowed with compliments from the mixed quartet of Gin N Tonix. We sang, we

danced and we sang some more…the room was full of comfort and joy! And then

we had our crazy gift exchange with a Left and Right Christmas story, read by our little

elf, Susie Kessel. A fun time was had by all and we strolled home with visions of sugar

plums dancing in our heads!

Next month’s dinner will be on February 15th. The menu will consist of Hawaiian chicken, rice, salad and cake. We will again be entertained by Gin and Tonix. Please join us for good fellowship, dining and entertainment. Hope to see you all there.

VALENTINE’S DAY

FEBRUARY 14TH

Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and lovers. The roots of Valentine’s Day go

back to ancient times, when people paid honor to the Roman God of Fertility. This was

known as the Feast of Lupercalia, and was celebrated even then on February 14th.

It is a romantic event for lovers, and a fun event for kids and family. Many a couple

become engaged or wed on this day. For others it is a day to fall in love.

Did you know? While 75% of chocolate purchases are made by women all year long,

during the days and minutes before Valentine's Day, 75% of the chocolate purchases

are made by men. Over $1billion of chocolate is purchased for Valentine's Day.

Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre - During the “Roaring Twenties (1920)”, mobs, crime

and gangsters were at their height in many parts of the US. Alcohol was banned,

spawning the rise of bootlegging and mob activity. Chicago, Illinois, experienced more

than its share of mobs and gangsters. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1929, four

gangsters dressed up as policemen and massacred seven members of a rival gang.

ROSE COLORS AND THEIR MEANING

RED roses are the traditional symbol for love and romance, and will always be a way to

say "I love you."

YELLOW roses bring bright, cheerful and joyful thoughts to mind. They create warm

feelings and provide happiness. Giving yellow roses can tell someone the joy they bring

you and the friendship you share.

PINK roses – Words like admiration, gentleness, grace, gladness, joy and sweetness

are just a few ways to describe the meaning behind the pink rose. A pink rose can also

convey happiness, gracefulness and admiration.

LAVENDER roses – Love at first sight or just an enchanting way to say, “I love you!”

Lavender roses can offer a daily reminder of your love and eagerness to grow your

relationship.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

CASUAL CORNER Thanks to Pat Bristow for this yummy soup recipe…perfect for “cold, winter nights.”

TACO SOUP 2 lbs. hamburger or turkey 2 cans kidney beans 2 cans black beans 2 cans pinto beans 1 can corn 1 jar salsa 1 packet taco seasoning Brown meat, drain fat. Combine all the ingredients (do NOT drain anything) into a large pot and heat thoroughly. Pour into serving bowls and top with sour cream, shredded cheese, tortilla chips, Fritos - whatever works for you. It makes a lot, but freezes well. The recipe can also be cut in half.

ENJOY!

The Undecorating Party

What goes up, must come down…and so it was with our beautiful clubhouse holiday

decorations. With the help of all our busy elves—Pat Bristow, Paula Jones, Sharon

Fritts, Tricia Wilson, Rose Stanton, Deanna Williams, Tony Williams, Reid Grant, Kathy

Indermill, James Ricklef and Jan Grant—the clubhouse was once again transformed

into its normal beautiful attire.

With much gratitude for all your effort…the Clubhouse Committee

SIX LITTLE STORIES

1. Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all the people

gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. Now that is faith.

2. When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch

them. Now that is trust.

3. Every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive the next morning,

but still we set the alarm to wake up. Now that is hope.

4. We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future. Now

that is confidence.

5. We see the world suffering, but still, we get married and have children. Now that

is love.

6. On an old man’s shirt was written a sentence “I am not 80 years old; I am sweet

16 with 64 years of experience. Now that is attitude.

Find the goodness in each day and make the most of every minute in the new year.
