Abstract In this work, Ni-Cr/WC-Co composite coating with an approximate thickness of 100 µm was produced by atmospheric plasma and high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal

spraying on SS 304 substrate. The main objective was to characterize the Ni-Cr/WC-Co

coating. The microstructure and composition of powder and coatings were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Optical Microscope and X-ray Diffraction (XRD).

The coating characteristics such as porosity, and microhardness were evaluated. Finally

the corrosion rate of the coatings was measured using polarization methods. It was found that HVOF coatings have better corrosion resistance because of lower porosity value.
