Dear diary...

Page 5: Journal Of Dennis Stanley

So who is Dennis Stanley? I’ve never believed in labeling or defining someone by what they

do, after all, we’re all complicated. Me, I’m a father, husband (and lover), brother, son; I’m a foodie; I’ve loved and lost and loved again; I’ve known happiness and sadness. We can choose to be defined by these experiences or we can use them to inform us on the choices that we make in our lives and how we con-nect with others; thereby making a positive impact on those around us. In amongst all this, for the past 20 years, photography has been at the center of my creative release; documenting my sporting endeav-ors, my travels and creating a photographic legacy of my four children’s lives.

All these things make me who I am and give me a personal perspective that’s unique to me. To quote a phrase “I was born an original and hope to die an original”. This was nature’s gift to me and the older I

get the more I appreciate that gift.

My approach is governed by my appetite to be so-ciable and providing my clients with images that will bring them pleasure for years to come; with my style being … well I’ll let you deicide…

My approach and philosophy surrounding portrait and lifestyle photography, is to keep it sim-

ple and give my clients options. I very rarely use a studio as I personally believe that most people feel more at ease in an environment that they are familiar with or a location that has some significance, i.e. a country park or even the seaside.

When shooting portraits, I ideally like to have a pre-meeting or a detailed conversation to better understand what type of image or outcome the client is looking to achieve. On the day of the shoot I always recommend that my clients allow for at least 2 hrs for the shoot, as this allows us to relax; when we’re relaxed that’s when really great images are produced and captured.

Lifestyle shoots usually consist of more than one sitter and is typically a family shoot, which is cen-

tered on a family day out and or someone’s partic-ular passion i.e. horse riding, skateboarding or even kick-boxing! Whatever the occasion, planning and allocation of time are the key to a great set of imag-es.

A lifestyle shoot is an event that should be enjoyed and not rushed. With this principle in mind, I ad-vise clients to typically allow 3-4 hours for a lifestyle shoot. This allows for great candid’s to be taken in an informal way/manner and when the situations call for it, for more formal/directed pictures to be taken. This type of service can be tailored to suit a variety of occasions and events.

My passion for children photography has been driven by me documenting the lives of my four

children over the past 20 years.

My approach as ever is focused on the imagery be-ing “honest” and “real”; always shooting from a child’s point of view. Being “child-like” in my approach, added to the way in which I see the world, result in images that are truly unique and will bring you plea-sure for years to come.

“Happiest Being…Me” is my bespoke package that is aimed at children 0-7 years old. It’s true to say that this period of a child’s life, will see them forming as individuals and you get a true sense of “who” they are and the potential that they hold. So brief is this

YOURSELF.”

preciate my style of photography, which is great, so please read on….
