Joseph Niemantsverdriet, Principal April 2016 Harding Herald Principals Message: It is hard to believe that we are already into the beginning of the fourth quarter. We are getting ready for the final set of state mandated assessments. As many of you are aware, this year the volume of testing has been dramatically decreased and they were developed for Ohio specifically to ensure they are aligned to the cur- riculum. The dates of each grade level tests are listed below. The Harding community has much to be proud of in our past performance on the past state assessments. Our success is due in large part to the com- mitment from parents, teachers and students to put forth their best each and every day. I feel confident that all of our students will show continued growth on these tests as we prepare them for Lakewood High School. Please note the following dates for achievement tests this year. 6th grade English Language Arts – April 12 & 13 Math – April 26 & 27 Social Studies – May 5 & 6 7th Grade English Language Arts – April 14 & 15 Math – May 3 & 4 8th Grade English Language Arts – April 19 & 20 Math – April 28 & 29 Science – May 5 & 6 Please remember to make sure that your students have a healthy breakfast, get a good night s sleep, and charge their chrome books the night before their assessments. Please make sure that students are at school on time during testing. Students that are absent or late will have the opportunity to make up missed assess- ments. We appreciate your continued support! MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT:

Recently, I was one of 20 superintendents who co-signed a letter to our state School Board members, state legislators and leaders at the Ohio Department of Education. The letter asked for these groups to involve those of us at the district level more in the process when it comes to making laws and handing down mandates that affect our students and staff. In addition, we ask for a new state superintendent that can balance the perspective of all groups advocating for high quality public education and change in the overemphasis on state assessments and the results. You can find the complete letter here and on our web site. It is important that our leaders in Columbus know that we at the local level will always rep-resent our students’ and teachers’ needs first. On another note, my fourth and final Superintendent Chat this school year will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 6 pm in the Ranger Café. Please join me for some light refresh-ments and an informal discussion about issues that affect the District. Bring your com-ments and ideas! Jeffrey W. Patterson Superintendent Board of Education Tom Einhouse, President Betsy Bergen Shaughnessy, Vice President Emma Petrie Barcelona, Linda Beebe Edward Favre

Superintendent Chat On Wednesday, April 20, Superintendent Jeff Patterson will hold his final Superintendent Chat of the school year. The chat will take place at 6 pm in the Ranger Café at Lakewood High School. Light re-freshments will be available. No reservations are needed, just show up with your questions and com-

ments! Hope to see you there.
