Here are some ideas that might be help- ful: 1. Plan to graduate in four years. Given the cost of higher educa- tion your parents will really ap- preciate such a commitment. The best way to do this is to have good study habits and attend all of your scheduled classes. 2. To get off to a good start, you need to meet your faculty advisor as early as possible after you get to NC A&T to map out the cours- es you need to take each semester – and to get timely infor- mation about scholarships, fel- lowships, multimedia training and professional conventions. 3. As soon as you get settled in the classroom, seek opportunities to get practical experience in the area of the media in which you plan to concentrate your studies. 4. Take advantage of every op- portunity that comes your way to work beyond the classroom to augment the education our faculty will offer you. 5. Treat your college education seriously. You’ll have plenty of time over the next four years to hang out with the friends you make on campus. Meet Alexa, an 18-year-old

Mass Media Production Major

from Charlotte who is minor-

ing in dance.

Find her on Twitter: @alyforever Alexa would like to work in the DMV (Delaware, Maryland and Virginia area) or Los An-geles or dance for an artist and other corporations (i.e. circus) She chose A&T because it is a family school and because of a family tradition. “A&T has a family environ-ment. It is really nice,” said Alexa, who is a student worker in the JOMC office. Alexa is a military child and has never

lived in one place more than 3 or 4 years. She has lived all over the world, including the Netherlands. Her hobbies are shopping, danc-ing and reading. Her favorite quote is “Deliver me” from The Prince of Egypt. A hidden tal-ent of hers is modeling. She has done print and runway model for Barbizon USA and International Modeling and Talent Association. Her moti-vation: not letting her family

and herself down and “knowing and feeling within that I can be successful”. For Alexa, “Communication is important. It is the key to everything.”

Micha wants to become a sports reporter for

ESPN after graduation. She chose A&T be-

cause she has seen lots of successful people in

media come from A&T and the JOMC depart-

ment and feels that A&T can help her. Plus,

she likes the JOMC department.

What’s interesting about Micha is that she likes to go thrifting and shopping

and then make her own clothes from those clothes (cutting them up, sewing

and dying them).

Her favorite things about A&T are all the clubs and organizations people can

get into. Her hobbies are singing and dancing. She also loves to play pranks on

people. Her favorite quote is “live life to the fullest” by Ernest Hemingway

A hidden talent of hers is that she is a good actor. Her motivation comes from

her parents. Their struggle makes her not want to struggle. “I want to work

hard now so I can help them later.”

Something weird is that she has a natural energy that seems to come out of

nowhere at times. Micha believes that the value and importance of JOMC is to

keep people informed. Without it, people wouldn’t know about what’s going

on in the world or community around them in general.

Diamond would like to work in a big city and be a PR for celebrities and possibly own her own public relations agency one day.

Diamond chose A&T because she feels that A&T really cares for JOMC and that the department and school puts more into JOMC than other schools where it isn’t a major or doesn’t have its own department.

Diamond is originally from Ohio and loves to do impersonations.

Her favorite thing about A&T is the school spirit!

Her hobbies are writing and dancing.

A hidden talent of hers is that she can sing.

Her motivation is her grandmother. Seeing her live her life moti-vates her to live hers as well.

Her favorite quote is one that she came up with herself, “live life everyday because you never know when you are going to forget.” It was inspired by her grandmother.

Something weird about Diamond is she considers herself OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) about cleaning…others peoples rooms!

JOMC represents those who enjoy writing and reading. That shows that journalism is still alive. She says that’s she “Can’t imagine the world without JOMC. We need that in between factor to get mes-sages out.” Everything needs representing.”
