I remember a quote I heard years ago, “Put first things first and you will get second things thrown in; however, put second things first and you will lose both first and second things.” Consecration Sunday is about putting first things first. It is about setting our priorities around what God desires and not the desires of the surrounding culture. If we do that, we create HOPE for a broken world. We practice consecration because in the Old Testament, when the Children of Israel wanted to walk with God, they would first consecrate themselves. They would make or remake a vow/covenant to do certain things in response to God’s loving action. They would hold themselves accountable to “walking” with God in the future. They believed if they did that, God would bless them with His presence thus creating His Kingdom on earth. We believe the same thing and count on God to give us His presence. Therefore, we consecrate our time, our money, our skills, our abilities, and everything that makes us who we are. We want to set these aside for God to bless and use for His glory. Though consecration is a spiritual matter of the heart, there is also a practical matter to this endeavor. The Commitment Card is an aid to help St. Paul plan accordingly. Financial pledges are important for our planning, but they are only a fraction of what God desires of us. God is concerned with our entire beings. God wants everything that we are to be committed to Him for the redemption of the world. Consecration Sunday is an exciting day for St. Paul. It is a day when we covenant with God to make HOPE LIVE HERE. I invite you to open your heart to God, to commit to the future of St. Paul, and to celebrate His goodness to us.

    The Wynnton Neighborhood

Network Thanksgiving Unity Service Sunday, November 24, 2013

7:00 p.m. Hosted by Epworth United Methodist Church

Pastor Wayland C. Conner will give the sermon Reception to follow (Nursery provided)

As Thanksgiving approaches, we should all realize how fortunate we are, and how, regretfully, not everyone is as fortunate. This is the reason that the St. Paul UMC congregation helped to establish the Wynnton Neighborhood Network. All offerings collected help those who are in need in our community buy food and pay utility bills during the holiday season and throughout the year. If you are unable to attend the service, please consider sending a donation. Thank you for your continued support of WNN!
