TABC is happy to announce our fall membership drive which includes a discount for coaches who join be- tween now and October 15, 2018. By joining prior to the basketball season, coaches can use their membership card everywhere it is accepted for the entire season. Coaches will receive all TABC Roundball Round-up newslet- ters which include valuable information on nomination deadlines, clinic information and basketball news from around the state. Getting a majority of coaches to join now also allows the TABC staff, officers and board mem- bers to work to secure top clinic speakers, dedicate time to the rankings, and promote all things connected with basketball statewide instead of having to track down delinquent members who put off joining until the last mi- nute. Scholarship Contributions

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches presently awards eighteen $500 scholarships to graduating seniors connected to basketball in the state of Texas. As more funds become available, the number and amounts of the scholarships will be increased. Many of you have players who have gone on to lucrative careers either as either professional athletes or as business leaders. Many of them would welcome an opportunity to give back to the sport that has influenced their lives in such a positive way. Please contact your former players and let them know about the tax exempt TABC Education Fund. To contribute, please make checks payable to the TABC Education Fund, Inc. and mail them to:

TABC P.O. Box 2886

Sugar Land, Texas 77487 If you have any questions or want to make a contribution using a credit card, please call 281-313-8222. The TABC Education Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization.

TABC presents Milestone Awards to Texas coaches who reach

their 300th

varsity win and each multiple of 100 thereafter. If you

reach one of those milestones during the season, please let TABC

know immediately so that we can order your plaque. Plaques com-

memorating 300 and 400 wins can be picked up at the TABC clinic or

it will be mailed to you. Plaques for 500 and subsequent milestones

are presented during a halftime ceremony at the UIL state tourna-

ments. We must send a list of all coaches who will participate in that

ceremony by February 1, so please don’t wait until after your season

is over to let us know about your achievement. Please e-mail TABC

at [email protected] when you reach your 300th

, 400th

, 500th

and

subsequent century marks.

People, Places and Things Longtime TABC member Ron Henderson passed away on June 27th from complications of Alzhei-mer’s. Ron served as a teacher, coach, counselor, assistant principal and principal during his career that spanned over 40 years. He began in 1964 at Perryton with subsequent stops at Lockney, Semi-nole, Galena Park, Olney, Dumas, Graham, Alief, Pleasant Grove, Kerens, Dayton, Snyder, Plainview, Ropes and Brazoswood. He is survived by his wife Betty, a longtime teacher and sons Randy and Rick. Randy is currently the girls head coach at Vega and coached previously at Port Aransas, Canton and Plains, where his team won the 2014 class 1A division I state champion-ship. Rick lives in Lubbock and works for Automotive Marketing Solutions. At the TABC clinic this past May in San Antonio cash prizes were given out to over 30 coaches on Friday and Saturday. The prizes ranged from $50 up to $200 and were drawn from the stamp cards that coaches got stamped for visiting all of our TABC sponsors. Congratulations to all who won any of the prizes. The grand champion winner was Sean Armstrong of King HS in Corpus Christi for hauling in the $200 after the final speaker on Saturday. Jordan Luna of Clarendon was a $100 win-ner earlier that day. Thanks to all who participated. We will do it again next year. Next year's TABC clinic dates have been set for May 16, 17 and 18, 2019. The venues will be the same as this past clinic with the El Tropicano as the host hotel and site for our banquets on Thurs-day and Saturday and the welcome reception on Thursday. It will also host speakers on Friday night and Saturday morning and afternoon. The all-star games will be played on Friday, May 17 at Trinity University and the vendor show and first 2 days of clinic speakers will be at St Mary's University on the court in the arena.
